Melissa McCarthy FIRES Extra For Mistreating Kid!

Marching orders were issued yesterday in Boiling Springs Lake on the set of Tammy as the star of the movie, Melissa McCarthy, had a PA remove an ill-tempered mother who was there with her son to play as Extras in the big lake scene.  The extras count quickly diminished by a pair when Melissa saw the woman being very “unmotherly” when trying to discipline her out-of-control child. TMZ got wind of it and reported:

The extra, a woman in her 20s, brought along her child — age approximately 4-5 — for the daylong shoot by a lake … and the standard $58 payday … sources tell TMZ. Witnesses say the young mom had been struggling with her kid all morning … constantly harping on the child to “stop it” and quiet down … loudly enough to disrupt the production, which included more than 200 extras. Sources say the last straw came when the mom harshly jerked the child up in the air by the wrist — and McCarthy saw it all. The director IMMEDIATELY had PAs bounce the woman … saying she wouldn’t tolerate abuse on her set … and that was that.

I CAN CONFIRM THAT IT IS INDEED TRUE.  The Extras Casting Director said that she respects Melissa not just as an actress, but also as a person.  McCarthy has expressed that she will not tolerate such behavior.  She has also stated multiple times during production meetings and on set that it is very important to her that all cast and crew have a pleasant experience while working on Tammy.

Well said, Melissa, very well said.

  1. I know the mother and spoke to her and this repost is not accurate…even if it was its not brave to be a big shot movie star and want to control your set so much that you interfere with the delicate goings on of mother/child discipline. The mother is a very good one and has never been abusive to anyone! You have no right MM or the production company!

    • I’m with the mother on this one. I also know her and have spoken to her about this. I also have seen how she is with her child and she is a good mother. For most of these people to judge someone by just one posting, that has only been verified by sources, is unjust. Why would a STAR allow this to be put out there is so clear, to look good in the public eye. I thought this star was better than that, I guess I was wrong.

  2. Two important statements stand out to me in this story. They are:
“Witnesses say the young mom had been struggling with her kid all morning constantly harping on the child to “stop it” and quiet down”
“the woman was being very “unmotherly” when trying to discipline her out-of-control child.”

As a mother of 2 children with behavior issues, I am curious as to why no one who saw her struggling with an unmanageable child offered to step in and help her out when she was obviously reaching her wits end?? It apparently had been going on “all Morning” Why did no one offer her assistance? There were 200 extras and even her “friends” that witnessed this…yet no one stepped in to offer respite or take the child so mom could walk away and get herself together. In society, bystanders love to criticize parenting skills and say how “they” would handle such a situation. From my own personal experience as a single mom with behaviorally challenged children, parenting these children is extremely stressfull, overwhelming and exhausting. While I don’t condome child abuse, it is also very important to step in and help a parent that is becoming overwhelmed. Finally, there is no perfect parent and what parent out there can honestly say they have NEVER had an “unmotherly” moment when our kids drove us crazy?? I love my children more than life(as does this mother) but I will admit I’ve lost my cool with them more than once and been “unmotherly”. I only hope that this will encourage people to step up in the village and help a mother raise a child. In doing so, this not only helps the parent but the child as well. Had I been on set that day, I would most certainly stepped up and offered this young woman assistance. Shame on those who stood by, judged and did nothing to get involved

“The only thing needed for evil to flourish is when good men do nothing”

  3. @Cheryl I wish Melissa McCarthy had the “courage” to step up FOR parents like this and get someone in her crew to assist this young mother or provide a special area on set for parents that show up with young children that need a time away to get it together. Especially since her own nephew has Autism, one would think she’d have more compassion for parents struggling with difficult children. Anyone can puff up and throw someone to the street but it takes a compassionate and courageous woman to offer help and encouragement to a struggling parent…
