THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 08/07/2014 The Politics of Film, TMNT Throwback, Sleepy Hollow and more.

Darkness, they say, has settled over New York City, however, the lights dimmed first at our very own EUE/Screen Gems as Shredder and his evil minions had their way.  As we gear up for the reboot in theaters this week for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we in Wilmington feel a lot pride pride knowing if if wasn’t for our turtles the box office would be eager for some other movie to hit theaters this weekend.

So, a perfect throw back Thursday for some TMNT love.  Thanks to stunt man Jimmie Lee Sessoms (left TMNT II / 1990) for the photos from TMNT and of course the second one, Secret of the Ooze. Now, Hunter over at the Star News did an amazing article you MUST read.  It takes you back with the local crew members who worked on it including Robbie Beck and Jeff Goodwin.  READ NOW.

It’s day 38 of 46 for The Longest Ride and they are back at the Coliseum today in Winston-Salem.

THE POLITICS OF FILM – UPDATE:  Well more like, what’s happening Under our Dome.  Yesterday, a skeleton session for the House did what we expected, they adjourned as soon as they convened.  And it looks like they will do it again– Thursday at 9:30 a.m for The Senate and Sunday at 4:30 p.m for the House. They will return, Thursday, August 14th for a full session.  This is when they would take on 763, IF they decide to. Let’s hope so.  That being said, they can do just about anything between now and then.  We don’t want them to kick the can on 763 to November like they want to do with Medicaid.  It’s impossible, but unlikely.  There is too much at stake with 763 and what’s in it.

Since yesterday, we have learned:

Art Pope is resigning as the NC Budget Director and Cokie Roberts’ son Lee will take his place.  Pope leaves Sept. 5th.  If you remember, Pope said he would be the budget director for one year for the cost of $1.  His one year term is up. READ MORE

Also, read Ben Brown’s overview of Lee Roberts over at the News & Observer.

Although Sen. Bill Rabon voted in favor of taking out the film incentive extension language and tax credits for historic preservation from 763 last week, he now says he still favors the inclusion of film incentives. [STATE PORT PILOT]

Most folks think Michael Lee will take Thom Goolsby’s Senate seat, even though there are other unnamed folks also in consideration.  We will find out more details on Tuesday.
