THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 08/20/2014 – Orlando Jones does Ice Bucket Challenge with a twist, Locations, Win a trip to LA

Our Domie, Stephen King is taking on the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS.

The Sleepy Hollow gang is also ready to freeze for the great cause.  Neil Jackson, Lyndie Greenwood and John Noble got in on the action.

Orlando Jones has accepted the challenge as well, but with a twist. In the wake of the disruption, sadness and violence breaking out in Ferguson, MO over the death of the unarmed teen, Michael Brown, Orlando blends the two in his own way. Good job Mr. Jones.

Sleepy Hollow is back downtown creeping through the Nutt St. alleyway.

Secrets & Lies is shooting on Chestnut St.

Under-the-Dome-Max-Ehrich

How did Under the Dome do in the ratings Monday night? It stayed flat with a 1.5 (A18-49) and they gathered 7.3M viewers. Last week, UTD has 6.9M viewers, so up in that regard.  Is it enough for 3rd season pickup? Yes. They were #1 in viewers for the night and they have gained viewers for four straight weeks.

FILM INCENTIVES UPDATE:  This is gonna sound strange, well, hell these past 4 months have been beyond strange, but as long as HB1224 fails, film as we know it, is not dead.  Even if they adjourn sine die, our legislators can get called backed in and the dialogue continues and the film conversation can begin once again.  I know what you’re thinking, we are losing productions everyday this crap goes on.  True.  It drives me crazy, too.  But looking into the future, this is the best we got at the moment. Yesterday, the House didn’t pass 1224, but it could come back to the table today.

The General Assembly Schedule at the present moment is:

  • Rules Committee: 10am
  • House: 11am
  • Senate: 4pm

I know it’s a long exhausting fight, trust me! LOL.  But it is not over.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 08/18/2014 Under the Dome Sneak Peek, Sleepy Hollow goes clubbin’, The Longest Ride wrap party details

Okay, for all of those who follow the blog from out of state and out of the country, this sneak peek shows a lot of fabulous footage of downtown Wilmington, NC aka Chester’s Mill aka Zenith!  Love this scene!  Mike Vogel and Max Ehrich have incredible chemistry!  I’m really digging Max’s acting chops.  He’s my instant favorite! Here’s what’s in store for us tonight!

Tonight’s synopsis: When Barbie enlists his father’s help to reach out to Julia, he realizes that Don may know more about the Dome than he is letting on. Meanwhile, Big Jim appoints himself sheriff of Chester’s Mill, on Under The Dome, Monday, August 18 at 10/9c. Brett Cullen guest stars.

Even though there are a few more additional days of filming, The Longest Ride had their wrap party this weekend in Elkin, NC at a place called 222 conveniently located a 222 East Main St.

800px-Elkin_NC_DowntownThe people were so friendly, the music was great, and the food was delicious,” said one crew member. Local party buses were hired and took the crew to and from the party from the hotels so they didn’t have to drive.

“The landscape beauty, coupled with the welcoming spirit from the local folks in Winston-Salem, Dobson and Elkin made for very pleasant filmmaking during the last couple of weeks of The Longest Ride,” another crew member said. “Many of us are looking forward to return to both locations with our families for a little vacation. I really want my kids to see these places.”

ICYMI: Our friends from WGSR in Greensboro headed over there to see how the folks in the town feel about The Longest Ride shooting there.  They get extra brownie points for using a drone for some of their gorgeous shots! A great piece! SEE VIDEO NOW.

The Longest Ride heads back to the farm again today in Dobson.

PravdaOkay, I am so excited about Sleepy Hollow filming at my FAVORITE club(s) downtown. They will be over at Pravda/Sputnik today and they got a packed club with over 120 hip background actors. Now I can’t tell you who is in this scene, however, can you imagine Ichabod Crane’s reaction to music and dancing in 2014? Baaahahahaaa.

ABC’s Secrets & Lies shoots in their hood again today in Porter’s Neck.

What can NC attract with the $10 Million Film Grant?

If the gavel goes down on the short session without including the film incentives, and we are 100% stuck with the $10 million Grant, our friend Jeff Hidek from the Star News put out a great visual. Remember I said IF. Even though things look quite grim, the short session is not over.  However, if some productions can bypass all the hoops to jump through and can wait until January 1st to apply for the grant, this is what we can expect to attract. And of course we could only land a handful because the money would go fast. That being said, very well done, Jeff. READ ARTICLE NOW in regards to this illustration.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 08/14/2014 Cullen Moss is Reckless, Locations, Fate of Film and more.

Our local boy Cullen Moss was on CBS’s Reckless last Sunday, and he finally got the stills to prove it. So, if you missed it, get to your Primetime On Demand channels or go online now and look for Cullen who plays the shrewd Charleston lawyer, Carter Davidson, in the episode, Deep Waters.

today2The Longest Ride is getting more love, this time from the former “first daughter,” Jenna Bush and the Today Show.  They came to Elkin, NC to do a piece on Nick Sparks and the film.  So, be on the lookout for that soon!

If you see a big 30 ton crane outside of Okami Japanese Steakhouse today, that is just Food Lion shooting a commercial…they will be all around town this week.

Secrets & Lies is back in their hood in Porter’s Neck.

Sleepy Hollow is over at the Cape Fear Club on Chestnut tonight and into the wee hours.

Aunjanue EllisWho we once thought was dead, is now painfully surfacing to Abbie and Jenny Mills. Their mother. They both thought their Madre went nuts, was committed, then took her own life. Whether she is dead and we see her through the girls memories, or she shows up in present day, know that Lori Mills is coming. Lori is being played by Aunjanue Ellis. You might know her from The Menalist, True Blood, or the most recent feature Get on Up.

We have 39 days until the premiere of Sleepy Hollow, Monday nights, 9pm on FOX.

FILM INCENTIVES UPDATE: The General Assembly is more interested in kicking the can down the road or completely ignoring sustaining jobs and job creation.

From what I am hearing, things don’t look so well for NC Film. It isn’t over until the final gavel hits, however, unless something drastic comes to light, I am being told that they will be adjourning sine die on Friday (sine die is an adjournment until the next session), with film not even on the list.  GET MORE DETAILS NOW

We will still be quite busy this year with Bolden!, Yellow Footprints and The Choice going into production next month, but come 2015, we won’t have enough money to sustain more than 3 decent projects statewide. As it stands right now, productions can’t even apply for the grant until 2015, so it’s gonna be very dry in the New Year.

With that being said, here’s a reminder:

The North Carolina Film Industry: End Scene

The Longest Ride. Image credit: David Pascua

Dear NC Film crew and NC Film supporters,

First, let me thank everyone who has gone above and beyond to keep this industry alive.  Your work has not gone unnoticed.  Your are appreciated and you are loved.

But regardless of the countless hours we have put in, it looks as though the General Assembly is more interested in kicking the can down the road or completely ignoring sustaining jobs and job creation.

From what I am hearing, things don’t look so well for NC Film. It isn’t over until the final gavel hits, however, unless something drastic comes to light, I am being told that they will be adjourning sine die on Friday (sine die is an adjournment until the next session).

There will be no coal ash discussion, nothing in regards to Medicaid and no economic development bills will be taken up.  That includes Historic Preservation and it also includes film.  That right there is a double blow to Southeastern North Carolina. Some have said they will deal with this in November, some have said it could be pushed until February 2015.

Politicos are saying four out of the five bills on the Senate Rules agenda for tomorrow at 6pm are “strip and replace” bills. You don’t send an adjournment resolution to Rules without expecting changes; that’s what it goes there for.  If everything was a done deal, it would’ve gone to the floor.

The sun has not yet set, so anything can happen.  The question is: will it?  Stay tuned.
