THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/12/2015 NC SFX MUA on Syfy’s Face Off tomorrow, more projects for SC.

North Carolina’s own Special Effects makeup artist Gregory Hewett will be on Syfy’s Face Off tomorrow night during a two part 8th season premiere @ 9 p.m. Greg is a Supply native who now lives in Charlotte.

I caught up with Greg this morning and I asked him what some of his favorite moments from 2014 were. He had a hard time answering because there were just too many to count. After twisting his arm, however, he said, “Working on It’s Supernatural, conducting a sold out FX class at Spooky Empire as a guest speaker, and participating in the national Chairi Walk which made over $15,000 in donations for finding a cure all made in one weekend!”  You rock Greg and we can’t wait to see you on Face Off tomorrow night! Set your DVRs folks!

Hunter over at the Star News has a nice story on Greg.  READ NOW

With Sleepy Hollow wrapping next week, the feature film Bolden will be the only project shooting in North Carolina (unless you count the two reality shows that only hire a handful of crew.)

It’s mind blowing that South Carolina, a state with no film infrastructure, can land project after project. Yeah, go ahead, chime in after that statement. I could go for days. So, if you’re up to traveling for work, this is the latest scoop in regards to South Carolina. (PS – The SC Gov Nikki Haley gets it! )

danny-mcbride-jody-hillMost of you already know, but in case you missed it, Danny McBride and Jody Hill’s HBO series Vice Principals set up offices last week in Charleston. Two days after I announced it, the SC Media had a field day with that news.  They are shooting 18 episodes. Our local boy David Brightbill’s got this one, so all you Homeland/Secrets and Lies folks, you probably already know that too.

The psychological thriller Faceless has set up shop in Charleston and are projected to begin production on or around February 15th. Marcel Sarmiento is directing.

RobertKirkmanNYCCI am also hearing Robert Kirkman’s Outcast is going to series. They shot the pilot last month in Rock Hill, SC for Cinemax. That will be good for the Charlotte (Banshee/Paper Towns) crew as they I heard they will stay in Rock Hill.  As soon as I get more details, I will let you know.

Reg E. Cathey (St. Vincent), Julia Crockett (The Absence), Wrenn Schmidt (Boardwalk Empire)  and Kip Pardue (Ray Donovan) have been cast opposite Patrick Fugit in Cinemax’s new exorcism drama Outcast, from The Walking Dead executive producer Robert Kirkman. Based on a comic by Kirkman and artist Paul Azaceta, Outcast follows follows Kyle Barnes (Fugit), a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a journey to find answers, but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.

  1. I’d love to read your 10 page rant on the SC vs NC film industries!

While we wait for our elected officials to figure out how badly they screwed up, do you know of any site that has info on the SC film offices that are opening up? Googling is getting me nowhere.

And thanks for all the work you do for the NC film industry! You’re a star! 🙂

  2. Just to let you know, I live here in Charleston and there is PLENTY of flming infrastructure. South of Hell has take over the former set Reckless and also has also taken over a couple of empty warehouses as well as an outdated and empty school building. There are also ample warehouse facilities around the area which would easily be transformed into a productive studio and office facility.

  3. Spoke to Tom Clark today at the SC Film Office. They are now out of money for incentives through 2016. If NC can get their shit together, you might be able to salvage the second half of 2015. NcCrory seems to be spearheading a movement of sorts ever since Charlotte lost Mercedes-Benz to Atlanta.

    • Again you know nothing of what you speak. Just nonsense and drivel. Your former mayor buddy, Mccrory has no intention of restoring the film incentive package in NC. He has said that many times. He only wants to pursue large corporations such as. Mercedes , with any kind of offer that he deems “reasonable”. This giant corporation told him and his cabinet it was too little, too late. They will be getting so much more bang for their buck in Atlanta. As far as film goes , there is no way NC can compete with Georgia, Louisiana or any other state offering incentives to attract more film and tv projects to their respective markets. You have to face facts , and fact is your buddy Mccrory doesn’t seem to be too aware of what is happening right under his nose. Thank you.

  4. “My buddy.” That’s the dumbest thing anyone has ever said about Pat McCrory to me. lol

I was just pointing out what the article said. I’m the guy that put it all together before anyone – the Chick-fil-a/Koch connection and got proof from a Georgia State Legislator. “My buddy…” Jeezus.

  5. That whole Chick Fila/ Pinewood/ Koch Bros. connection has got to be the most ignorant and lame accusation I have ever heard! You make all these stupid remarks and think have your finger on the pulse of what is happening in the film industry in NC, when all you are doing is showing what a moron you really are. Yeah, you got all your inside info from a Georgia legislator. That’s too funny! Ha!
