Homeland’s James Rebhorn Passes Away

James-Rebhorn

by April Vickery

Sad news for an NC Film production. One of the stars of ‘HOMELAND’ James Rebhorn has passed away at the age of 65. His agent, confirmed the information earlier today.

James played the father to Claire Danes’ “Carrie Mathison”. James will be remembered most as for characters in the law profession. He played attornerys and special agents in many of his films. James was a Wilmywood actor as well having been in 1985’s CAT’S EYE.

Not many knew, but James was also a stage actor as well. He was the mainstay of the Roundabout Theatre Company. His theatre resume includes TWELVE ANGRY MEN and PRELUDE TO A KISS.

R.I.P James. You will be missed.

Well, April and I just happened to run into him at a fundraiser Saturday night! Celebrity comic book artist Phil Jimenez was in town to help raise money for the Wilmington based non-profit, JasonMottAnimal Warriors.  Mind blowing talent and a super nice guy!  But who did we discover is a comic book fan?  None other than author, Jason Mott.  I really think I embarrassed myself, I totally freaked out and went all fangirl on him!  Ha!  But he agreed to come talk to us after he meets his deadline on his latest book, so I couldn’t have been that horrible.  Or maybe this will be a pity interview! Either way, look forward to hearing him on The Sunny Morning Show on Sunny 104.5  in about two weeks!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 03/17/2014 RED ZONE – The Complete Cast List

The RED ZONE cast is complete.  The final cast member to be announced is… DRUM ROLL PLEASE!

kim-dickens copyCongrats to Kim Dickens!  This lovely southern girl has been seen on the big and small screen.  You might have seen her as Janette Desautel on HBO’s TREME, as Joanie Stubbs in HBO’s DEADWOOD or as Colette Jane on FX’s SONS OF ANARCHY.  In the movie world, she’s been in top notch flicks such as THE BLIND SIDE and coming this October she plays Detective Rhonda Boney in GONE GIRL.  Welcome to Wilmywood Kim!

So, who are the stars and what characters do they play?  Here’s your complete cast list.

And the stars are already enjoying Wilmywood as RED ZONE held it’s first private cast dinner at 1900 Saturday night.  The owner Ken Oliver and executive chef Kirsten Mitchell, along with the staff threw down an amazing menu of food and beverage.

1900Director James Foley along with Producers Nikki Toscano and Bill Johnson spent a fun evening meeting and greeting each other in Wilmywood.  Some of the cast members enjoyed the evening as well.  In attendance was Kevin Rahm, Samantha Mathis, Graham Rogers, Stefanie Scott and David Castro just to name a few.  Our sources tell us the cast and producers (especially Nikki) completely fell in love with the place and the food.  However, that is just another day for Ken Oliver: delicious perfection.  Ken hosted the Tammy cast several times last year and they gushed over the food and atmosphere as well.

Today is officially day one of production.  They will shooting in the Forest Hills area.

Welcome to Wilmywood, RED ZONE peeps!

Wilmywood Celebrates Stars Who Give Back

by April Vickery

We all love big name stars for not only the art they create but the energy the productions they are on bring to Wilmington and surrounding areas. This week, we celebrate the birthdays of three actors who are linked in more ways than just having seen the Cape Fear River and Blue Ridge Mountains.

gary_siniseFirst up is Gary Sinise who filmed the Academy Award winning film The Green Mile (1999) in scenic North Carolina. Not only is he the owner of awards in his craft of acting (he has both Emmy and Golden Globe Awards) Mr. Sinise was made an honorary U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer for his efforts in helping veterans. This great man and actor was named an honorary Marine by the Commandant of the Marine Corps as well. He is the National Spokesperson for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial and devotes hours to other veterans’ service organizations. He has done numerous USO tours with his band Lt. Dan Band, named after his character in Forrest Gump. He celebrates his 59th birthday on March 17th.

queen latifahOur next Happy Birthday wish goes another actor with a big heart and music chops. She is Dana Owens. You may know her as non other than Queen Latifah. The rapper turned actor also has, “producer”, “model” and now “talk show host” on her ever growing resume. Queen Latifah graced North Carolina with her talent for the 2008 film Secret Life of Bees in Lumberton and Watha. While she was filming, she was known to stop in at local businesses in Wilmywood where her friendly demeanor showcased the meaning behind her stage name “Latifah” which is said to mean “Delicate” and “Very Kind”. Queen Latifah later shared the screen another Wilmywood love, Katie Holmes in the film Mad Money. Recently, at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, Queen Latifah offiated a simultaneous wedding of 34 couples.
On Tuesday the 18th, she will be 44 years old.

bruce-willisMy final birthday shout out for this week goes to a man who gets better action roles with age. The one and only, Bruce Willis. Luckily for Wilmywood, Mr. Willis gave up work as a security guard and private investigator to and decided to pursue acting. His career choice led him to Wilmington for the 1997 film Jackal.

6DEGREES

In the challenge of “Six Degrees of Wilmywood,” Bruce would be the actor everyone would want! He has been in over 60 films and can be linked to other Wilmywood stars like Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta. Much like the other folks in this week’s shout out, he has earned his share of Emmy’s and a Golden Globe, records his own music with The Accelerators Band who performed a USO tour in 2003 and gives back when he can. Bruce once purchased 12,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies from his youngest daughter’s troop to send to troops stationed in the Middle East in 2002. March 19th marks the birthday of this honorable gentleman. He will be celebrating #59.

Happy birthday from Wilmywood!

Mason Dye, Haaz Sleiman, David Petruzzi join Nikki Toscano’s Red Zone

by April Vickery

Big week for RED ZONE! Three more members have joined the cast as “Silas”, “Amir” and “Mark”.

UCzGDCmxNineteen year old Mason Dye will be playing the role of “Mark.” Mason is mostly known for his role in the TV series, DIARY OF AN AMERICAN CHEERLEADER but more recently for the 2014 on screen adaptation of the controversial 1979 novel FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC by V.C. Andrews.  In the Lifetime original movie, Mason played the role of “Christopher” the oldest brother of the children growing up in the attic of their cruel grandmother’s home. Just a few days ago, it was announced that Dye will also have a reoccurring role on season 4 of MTV’s TEEN WOLF.

HAAZ SLEIMANThe role of “Amir” will be played by Haaz Sleiman. Although the Lebanon born actor was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his work in film as “Tarek” in ‘THE VISITOR’, he is no stranger to television. Haaz’s resume includes NURSE JACKIE, NIKITA, 24 and COVERT AFFAIRS. He is also an accomplished stage actor. He appeared in the NY play FOOD AND FADWA.

DavidPetruzzi“Silas” will played by newcomer David Petruzzi. By the looks of his resume with roles in SAVE ME (2007) DIRTY GIRL (2010) and FLEETWOOD (2006) this man will be bringing some serious acting chops to RED ZONE.

RED ZONE is shaping up to look like an amazing series and I can’t wait to see it! Welcome to Wilmywood, gentlemen. We are excited to have you.

Under the Dome’s Samantha Mathis Returns; Kevin Rahm is Mad for Red

SamanthaMathisSamantha Mathis is returning to Wilmywood, but this time she won’t be Under the Dome.  She joins the quickly assembled cast of REDZONE.  Mathis will play Olivia Jordan. Great news for the Under the Dome cast and crew.  They will be glad to see her again. This time around she is playing it straight as Kevin Rahm will play opposite Mathis as her husband, Paul Jordan.

Kevin RahmKevin Rahm has been on the small screen pretty much nonstop since 1995.  He’s most well known for playing the character Lee McDermott on DESPARATE HOUSEWIVES and most recently as Ted Chaough on MAD MEN.  But I still have a love for his time as Kyle McCarty on JUDGING AMY.  Congrats Kevin! DavidCastroRED ZONE does it again! Eighteen year old David Castro signs with ‘RED ZONE’.  He is best known for his Imagen Award nominated role in WHERE GOD LEFT HIS SHOES (2007) opposite John Leguizamo. He worked again with John Leguizamo in THE MINISTERS (2009) Wilmywood welcomes this up and coming New York native to our neck of the woods!  And on a side note, David’s acting career began at age 5, where he landed a national Nickelodeon Sponge Bob commercial. From Revolution to Red Zone: Graham Rogers is Back!

by April Vickery and Sheila Brothers

graham-rogers2

‘REDZONE’ is on a roll today! We are so pleased to add Graham Rogers to the cast!

Graham_SheilaGraham is known to us in Wilmywood for his role of “Danny Matheson” on ‘REVOLUTION.’  Pictured, he was really involved in the  Wilmywood community as he and his other cast members David Lyons and Tim Guinee helped us during the Sunny 104.5 Caring for Kids Radiothon for NHRMC a couple of years ago.  They even let us give them flu shots!   You probably also saw him play the role “Carson” in the film ‘CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR‘ with fellow hearththrob Nick Jonas.

Graham will be playing the role of “Jake” in ‘REDZONE‘.

Graham is a powerful actor and leading man these days, but will always hold a place in my heart as the cute boy who shouts, ‘Can I get a hot tub?!’ in the State Farm ads.

As always, we are glad to have Graham’s energy and contagious smile in Wilmywood!

BREAKING RUMOR: Anthony LaPaglia Nabs Lead Role in Red Zone

by Sheila Brothers and April Vickery
AnthonyLaPaglia3

Our sources tell us that there is a strong indication that Emmy and Golden Globe winner, Anthony LaPaglia will sign on to play the role of “Holden.” As you have read here on the Wilmywood Daily, “Holden” is the retired C.I.A operative who is thrust back into the field when a terrorist attack hits Washington, DC.

Anthony is no stranger to Wilmywood either!  Mr. LaPaglia was in the hometown favorite EMPIRE RECORDS (1995).

Anthony is best known for his role as FBI agent, “Jack Malone” on the show ‘WITHOUT A TRACE’ so the action of ‘RED ZONE’ should be right up his alley! In fact, this talented actor has built his career on playing the tough guy role. It’s rumored that he was originally asked to play Tony Soprano in the hit HBO series, but turned it down. Luckily for us, if he chooses ‘RED ZONE’ we will get to see this tough Aussie in action.

The extras casting director for RED ZONE, Marty Siu has already begun sending out numerous calls for extras and she will be needing a ton for this pilot. Production begins Monday!

Be sure to keep up with The Wilmywood Daily for those casting calls and updates on the show’s progress.

Wilmywood will be glad to have Anthony back!
