Extras Casting Director ready for ‘Dirty Dancing’ and FOX’s ‘Shots Fired’

A lot of people have been hounding me (in a loving way) about who is doing extras casting outside of Wilmington. Well, congrats to Tona Dahlquist of Tona B. Dahlquist Casting. She will be heading up not one, but two productions West of Wilmywood.

ABC’s 3 hour event, Dirty Dancing and FOX’s new series, Shots Fired.

Dirty Dancing is an adaption of the beloved 1987 hit romantic drama which was shot in part in North Carolina. Produced by Lionsgate Television in association with Allison Shearmur Production, the TV event—starring Abigail Breslin, Debra Messing, Colt Prattes, and Sarah Hyland  The production will take place in the state’s western region, including Jackson and Buncombe Counties among other locations next month.

SanaaLathanShots Fired is a series from 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television that will base out of Charlotte. This could be a great one as Brian Grazer is the producer behind it. It has gone by multiple names such as Indictment and the most recent Untitled Gina Prince-Bythewood Project. She is the writer/director on this project. The LP is Howard Griffith who has been here before. Sanaa Lathan is set to star as an expert investigator who digs into the cases, alongside a special prosecutor sent to the town by the Department of Justice, to seek justice before the divided town erupts.

Stay tuned to Tona’s Casting Page on Facebook for all the details! GO THERE NOW!

Congrats Tona! Well deserved!

Debra Messing Joins Asheville’s ‘Dirty Dancing’

We have a new cast member to add to the list for the soon-to-be shot North Carolina remake of Dirty Dancing! Will & Grace‘s Debra Messing will join Abigail Breslin as Baby’s mom. And as I told you not long ago Breslin will play Frances “Baby” Houseman.

I absolutely love the way Vulture put this:

She’ll (Messing) play Marjorie Houseman of the Houseman clan in the role originally played by Kelly Bishop of the Gilmore clan, which means that Messing will now be one of the parties responsible for putting Baby in her literal and metaphorical corner.

They have yet to announce who will play Johnny.

Dirty Dancing is going to be a 3-Episode television event and remake of the 1987 romance film and is looking for an April start date. Production Weekly has listed that the Director will be Wayne Blair. The telefilm was written by Jessica Sharzer (American Horror Story).

ABOUT DIRTY DANCING (ABC):
STATUS: Development / Pre-Production
LOCATION: Asheville, NC
PRODUCERS: Alli Shearmur, Eleanor Bergstein, Adam Anders
LINE PRODUCER: Judy Cairo
DIRECTOR: Wayne Blair
CAST: Abigail Breslin, Debra Messing

More on Director/Producers for Asheville’s ‘Dirty Dancing’

So, yesterday, I gave you a glimpse of what’s to possibly come to North Carolina. It sure has been slim pickings lately. Not even an hour after I posted the blog, the news came out who would indeed play ‘Baby.’ I can’t believe she’s old enough to play this part, but Abigail Breslin is officially attached. Man, they sure do grow up fast!

It looks like they will make it to the Asheville area after all. Third times a charm! This is going to be a 3-Episode television event and remake of the 1987 romance film and is looking for an April start date. Production Weekly has listed that the Director will be Wayne Blair. The telefilm was written by Jessica Sharzer. Line producer is Judy Cairo. We will see if things change. This is a Lionsgate/ABC collab with Allison Shearmur Productions.
