‘Max Steel’ Trailer is Here! New Release Date!

It’s been almost 18 months since Dolphin and Open Road Films swam on into Wilmywood to begin production on Max Steel and we’ve been like, “Where is this movie?” Yes, we’ve been hearing nothing but crickets!  The movie stars Ben Winchell as Max McGrath along with Ana Villafañe, Andy Garcia and Maria Bello. But finally we have our selves a trailer!!!  It’s the Spanish trailer, but in English. If you remember, Mattel’s Max Steel franchise has a HUGE following especially in South America. So, I guess that makes sense. Anyone else SUPER pumped?! The new release date is Friday, October 21, 2016.

MAX STEEL – MATTEL/DOLPHIN/OPEN ROAD
STATUS: Production began April 29, 2015
PRODUCERS: Bill O’Dowd,  Julia Pistor
WRITER: Christopher Yost
DIRECTOR: Stewart Hendler
LP: David Grace
CAST: Ben Winchell,  Ana Villafañe, Andy Garcia, Maria Bello

16 year old Max McGrath is discovering that he’s got a strange electric energy that emanates from him when he’s upset or excited, and it’s starting to grow beyond his control. With his scientist father dead and his mom Molly unwilling to talk about what really happened in the accident that killed him, Max is resigned to trying to fit in to yet another new school–where he finds himself attracted to the quirky, independent-minded Sydney and develops a friendship with an old colleague of his dad’s, Miles Edwards. But the most startling thing that happens to Max is the arrival of a small, crab-like alien named Steel, whose memory may be faulty but who knows one thing for certain: he’s there to protect Max, and he’s been sent by Max’s father.

The Wilmywood Daily – 04/20/2015 Max Steel gets release date, Local actor in Fantastic 4 and more.

The Longest Ride is doing decent at the box office. So far, they’ve earned $23,511,000  plus $6 million more internationally.

And did you spot what they wrote at the end of the credits? Thanks for posting this Ben Yemba! They were here during our big battle with our legislators and they felt our pain considering how much they loved filming here. I know director George Tillman, Jr. definitely knew! He really paid attention to what was going on around town and across the state. So, on behalf on the NC Film Crew, thank you Longest Ride Team!

And we gotta give major kudos to local actor Anthony Reynolds! He always gets in on the coolest movies! This time, you can spot him in the latest trailer for Fantastic 4! Congrats buddy!

Also HUGE DOUBLE congratulations going out to Jonathan Landau and the gang!  First, their short film Pushing Buttons won Best Dark Comedy Short at Worldfest Houston this weekend! It stars Devin McGee and Meredith Jackson to name a couple.11156351_1157654247584143_6450778751639465909_n

Secondly, 14 years ago Landau made a 35mm feature film called The Last Summer. He says that over 1,000 local people worked on this film (including Britt Robertson, Muse Watson, Nick Searcy, and David Andrews). It is now available via Vimeo On Demand! It’s only $1.99 to check it out!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 05/15/2014 Another feature for NC, Short Session, Max Steel, Under the Dome, Firestarter 2

Happy Thursday my beautiful Wilmywood peeps!  Let’s dive right in.

Sources are claiming Langley Park Pictures is bringing North Carolina the feature film Ashby starring Mickey Rourke, Emma Roberts and Sarah Silverman.  They are supposedly going into production  mid-June.  So that means they are already in production.  I will keep you posted as to where.  As of now, I haven’t heard anything about them shooting here.  And honestly I hope they shooting another part of the state so we can spread our the film love.

andy_garciaAndy Garcia made his first appearance on set yesterday for Max Steel. He is playing the character Dr. Miles Edwards. Yay! Welcome back to Wilmywood, Andy! The crew is back on Middlesound Loop Rd.

The CBS Upfronts were yesterday and they brought us absolutely nothing about under the dome If fact we already know everything we need to know about the hottest summer show to hit the network. Under the Dome is plugging away gearing up for their June 30 premiere. Currently, they are shooting episode 8. They are sticking to their Monday night line up in their 10 p.m. time slot.  Our Domies are shooting on the lot today.

ScottDay One for the legislative short session arrived yesterday and it is already not sitting well with many folks.  Raging facebook posts were blended with truths and complete misunderstandings.  Just remember this short session is NOT short.  It will go to July.  Let’s not panic.  This will be the longest two months of our lives! If you don’t believe me, ask Scott Lope who has been battling for animal rights for years.  He knows exactly what we are going through emotionally and he gives us all a little advice when it comes to handling the ups and downs of the short session as well as how to present ourselves in regards to the film incentives.  LISTEN NOW!

imageTNT announced they are creating a follow-up to Stephen King’s Firestarter novel, or as we like to call it a follow up to the film fire that made Wilmywood what it is today. The Shop this supernatural thriller centers on the titular organization that once exploited the pyrokinetic abilities of Charlie McGee (Drew Barrymore). They move 20 years later and we discover that Charlie has been tracked down by one of its former members, Henry Talbot.  Although they thought they  brought The Shop down all those years ago, we find out that is it is alive and more sinister than ever, unleashing terrifying new entities into the world. Of course Charlie can’t let that happen, so she is ready and determined to destroy it for good.  No word on casting or location yet.

Andy Garcia joins Max Steel cast

andy_garciaAndy Garcia is back in Wilmywood! ( He was here in 2013 for Christmas In Conway.) He has signed on to play the role of “Miles” who is a friend of Max’s mother “Molly.”  Currently, Andy can be heard and not seen in the animated picture, Rio 2 as the voice of “Eduardo.” Rumor has it that Mr. Garcia has had some Wilmywood ties in the past couple of months. The Emmy award nominated actor was one of the leading men in the running for the lead role in the recently wrapped pilot, Field of Play. (We know it as REDZONE).

sh_johnNobleTwo casts members of Sleepy Hollow got an upgrade to series regulars! John Noble  and Lyndie Greenwood were promoted for the sophomore season. The Hollywood Reporter says, “Noble’s Sleepy Hollow promotion puts him back in business with Fox as a series regular, where he had previously starred in Fringe.  Meanwhile, Greenwood, who portrays Abbie Mills’ sister Jenny, appeared in the majority of the 13-episode run.”

So yeah, Lyndie was already playing the part, so I am glad both get the notoriety and pay raise! READ ARTICLE NOW

But the next-door neighbor isn’t exactly thrilled. She’s determined to win Conway’s best-decorated-yard contest, and she has the law on her side — her brother just happens to be the town sheriff! THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 10/15/2013 – Squeeze Cast, Christmas in Conway Premiere, Sleepy Hollow

JillianMurray

Jillian Murray

More actors and actresses have arrived in Wilmington for The Squeeze.  Yesterday, I reported that Jeremy Sumpter arrived.  Now I can tell you Christopher McDonald, Jillian Murray and Katherine LaNasa flew in yesterday.

Katherine LaNasa

Katherine LaNasa

Jillian is an up and coming actress who is really popping this year.  The Squeeze will one of 5 films she is working on in 2013.  As for Katherine you might remember her in The Frozen Ground or better yet, The Campaign as Rose Brady.

chrismcdonald

Chris McDonald

The most recognizable face however is Christopher McDonald.  You’ve seen him in, well…what haven’t you seen him in!  Chris been in over 160 projects along with 8 flicks yet to be seen.  I think he is most famous for playing the best jerk ever, Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore.  At the airport, he was instantly spotted and some Wilmington folks said he was super nice to everyone while taking pictures with a few fans at baggage claim.

Conjuring

The Conjuring and Iron Man 3, are in the running for Movie of the Year for the 2013 Hollywood Movie Awards.  They need your vote to make that happen!   The awards will be presented October 21st.   Today is the LAST DAY to vote!  VOTE NOW!

WWAY is proud to annnounce we now have a premiere date for Christmas in Conway!  Mark your calendars for December 1st.  It will air on WWAY, our ABC affiliate.  The movie stars Mary-Louise Parker, Andy Garcia and Mandy Moore. READ WWAY ARTICLE

filmjobsLobbyists from Raleigh visited with Wilmington City Council during their agenda brief yesterday. The lobbyist’s spoke about what the local lawmakers could expect in 2014. The Lobbyists said that one of the most important issues facing the state concerns film incentives.

“We’re working to try and educate legislators,” said Harry Kaplan of McGuire Woods Consulting firm in Raleigh. We continue to educate them about the importance of that film credit both here in Wilmington and New Hanover County, but also across North Carolina, the jobs and economic development that it brings to the state.”

Thom Tillis,  Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, has already said he supports keeping the incentives in the state. The state film incentive legislation is currently set January, 1 2015.  Learn more about the film incentives.

tommisonAnd last not not least how about a standing ovation for another great episode of Sleepy Hollow! Ichabod kept us laughing out loud with his “impenetrable barrier” issues with plastic and his fascination with scotch tape.  But of course, the suspense, drama and curiosity blended in perfectly.  Like butter baby!  Kudos to writer Melissa Blake for her mad skills and to 12 year old Matt Lintz for a great performance!   I will be posting, per usual, the ratings in a separate blog today by 11:30am EST.

SH_Headless

There’s nothin’ more fun than filming at the Bellevue Cemetery in the month of October!   They will be shooting tonight at that location on Princess Place Drive.  Perhaps you will see good ole Headless as he chases another character on horseback.  Awesome!  God, I love this town!

Need to catch up on episodes?  Watch them all NOW only on FOX! Remember, Sleepy Hollow is being interrupted by baseball, so the next episode airs November 4th!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 08/19/2013 EBD improves City of Wilmington, start date for Bolden!, and more.

The folks from Eastbound and Down had their wrap party on Saturday. They rented a party boat from Carolina Beach and brought it up to Wrightsville Beach in the Intercoastal Waterway. They parked it on the inlet side of the Blockade Runner. The boat took the entire cast and crew out and they partied hard. Local band, Machine Gun rocked the night away! After the party, everyone rolled over to have some more fun at the Blockade Runner.  Danny McBride was really great and posed for a lot of pics with all the crew. The HBO gang really knew how to take care of the NC film crew that works their tails off because they know Eastbound is never an easy show to produce.

Maides ParkThey also know how to take care of the City of Wilmington. A huge thank you to Eastbound and Down, Danny, Jody Hill, and the whole HBO crew.   In order to shoot scenes at Maides Park, they had to do a lot of landscaping. They spent over $1000 at the baseball field, and it looks amazing!, They re-sodded, added new diamonds and rebuilt the pitchers mound. So, thank you for saving us taxpayers some money and for beautifying our parks! I know the nearby neighborhood is grateful for your efforts.

The rain washed out a few scenes last week, so they won’t head to Charlotte until Wednesday. 1st Unit is shooting at the Cameron Art Museum and the 2nd Unit is back in Castle Hayne.

under-the-dome-cbsIt’s Dome Day once again with LIVE tweets abound with the cast members.  #UnderThe Dome during the show on CBS @ 10pm EST.  A mysterious woman (Natalie Zea) shows up “Under the Dome.”  Hell’s Kitchen in downtown Wilmington is the place to be for the viewing party. It gets underway around 9:30pm.  If you can stay up a little later, Dean Norris is back on Dave Letterman tonight on CBS!

It’s the FINAL DAY TO VOTE FOR SLEEPY HOLLOW!  An advance screening right here in Wilmywood!  And you know that means the other competing cities will be voting like mad, so PLEASE get everyone you know to VOTE!sleepyhollow

The Hollowed cast and crew worked into the ungodly hours this morning in downtown Wilmington.  But people who are working on the series don’t seem to mind when the cast members are so great to work with.  Tyler tells us what it’s like to work with Orlando Jones.  LISTEN NOW .  Sleepy Hollow is sleepin’ in today!

Christmas in Conway is at their usual spot in the Forest Hills area. Andy Garcia, Mary Louise Parker and Mandy Moore join everyone on set.

RumorslogoSome more rumors from the lot. We’re hearing that Bolden! is looking to have a start up date of September 23rd and they will go all the way into June!  Awesome, that’s a lot of jobs and local shopping at our area stores! Love it!  Shooting won’t begin until January, cause they got a lot of building to do!
