THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 07/08/2014 Another feature film for NC?, Aaron Syrett resigns, Secrets & Lies and more.

JohnElvisIt’s was Episode 2 for Under The Dome, Season 2 last night on CBS and one of our favorite Domies, John Elvis who plays Ben was back in town to watch the action packed show with our beloved local Chester’s Millers downtown Wilmington at Hell’s Kitchen during the Barrettviewing party. Actor Barrett Carnahan took the night off from Sleepy Hollow to show support and have a little fun with friends while in town. A good time was had by all. John will be leaving midweek.  We will miss ya buddy! Thanks to Mary Jo Jackson for the pics!

We’ll see how Under the Dome did rating-wise later today.   Our Domies are in Currie today while Sleepy Hollow is at Hoggard High School and then Forest Hills.  The Longest Ride is at Atlantic Auto and CFCC.

Timothy BusfieldNow if you remember Tim Busfield is playing Benjamin Franklin is season 2 of Sleepy Hollow.  Well, it looks like ABC’s Secrets & Lies is borrowing him.  As a director.  Look for Secrets & Lies to begin production in about two weeks.

ABC’s Secret & Lies is still accepting crew resumes.  Send your resumes with position in the subject line to:

Sleepy Hollow is returning to the San Diego Comic Con coming up on Friday, July 25th GET DETAILS NOW!

Although we’ve already seen this on Netflix, North Carolina shot Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5 is officially out on DVD and Blu-Ray today.

NCFILM OFFICECORRECTION: Director the NC Film Office Aaron Syrett did not resign.  Due to a reduction in workforce, Aaron will no longer be at the North Carolina Film office as of July 31st.   He did not leave in the middle of the battle.  This is so sad.  Aaron’s been helping keep things alive over the past 7 years.  We wish him well.  Looks like Production Services Executive Guy Gaster is filling in Aaron’s position.  We don’t know if this is permanent or temporary. More details will be released in the coming days.

RumorslogoThe feature film currently titled, One & Two is currently is said to begin setting up shop later this month in North Carolina.  It’s about two siblings living in a remote area who have supernatural powers but they are and have been stifled by their overbearing father.  Producing in Kim Sherman.  Andrew Droz Palermo is the director.  Not too many other details about this one.  Where in North Carolina is still unknown.  Let’s log this one still as a rumor.  No one has said boo about this one…yet at least.

A lot of people have asked me about the Civil War based pilot coming from Disney.  I am still being told, they are waiting until a decision is made on the film incentives before they decide on North Carolina or Virginia.  Hate to say it, but my gut tells me they are going north for this one.  (please let me be wrong).

I think we can all find the time.  Everyone has a lunch break.  Here are the folks you need to contact everyday this week!  Tell them to extend the film incentives for another year!

secretsLiesYay!  The first production day of the season!  ABC’s Secrets & Lies kicks it off in Porter’s Neck.  Wanna know some more secrets?  How about how Producer Aaron Kaplan feels about Wilmington and why he chose to bring it here.  Hunter Ingram of the Star News snagged this fabulous quote:

aaronkaplan“When we were trying to decide where to shoot this, one of the most important things for us was that we had to pick an American city that felt very safe, very bucolic and a place that would be rattled by something like the murder of a child,” Kaplan said.

Aaron says more and he wasn’t the only one that agreed.  Find out who cited our excellent film incentives and crew base to seal the deal. READ MORE NOW

charlesduttonThis came out yesterday afternoon!  Australian actress Indiana Evans, has signed on the dotted line as well as three other actors for Secrets & Lies.  Deadline reports that Evans will play Natalie, Ben and Christy’s teenage daughter.  But I am most excited about Charles Dutton!  He will play one of the neighbors, Kevin Williams.  Also added to the list are Steven Brand (Magic City) as Dr. Joseph Turner, another neighbor, and Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead).  READ MORE NOW.

Steve_ProutyYesterday, we watched the Oscar Nominees roll in and two North Carolina got recognized. We expected Iron Man 3 to get a nom, and it did for Visual Effects. But our jaws dropped when we saw the next one. After all, when do you ever see a comedy EVER get a nomination at the Oscars? It’s a rare occurrence. But hey, we’ll take it! So HUGE congratulations to Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa! The Hair and Makeup department got the nomination! Very well deserved! Johnny Knoxville looked amazing! Makeup artist Steve Prouty said in a statement:

“I’m very proud of having been a part of this film,” Prouty said. “We worked very hard each day to help bring Irving Zisman to life and are eternally grateful to have worked with someone like Johnny Knoxville. He is a true talent.”

AngieNow let’s head to Charlotte, NC for a spell.  Actress Angie Harmon ( Law & Order, Rizzoli & Isles)  was appointed to the Studio Charlotte board. She gave her plea to Charlotte City Council members yesterday to approve Studio Charlotte. The developer has until the spring to convince city leaders to OK the plan to remake the Eastland Mall site.   READ STORY NOW

Also on the Charlotte front, in the latest issue of Production Weekly, they report Charlotte will get the feature film, The Sharp Files later this year.  This suspenseful flick is about a professional psychiatrist, Laura Sharp, who struggles with her own mental state after the death of her husband and two children. She must work to find out what is real as she deals with four mysterious and dangerous patients.  M.J. Alhabeeb Jr. will direct.

If you didn’t see it yesterday, WWAY’s Daniel Seamans did a cute little blurb about a man we all know and love in the film industry – Chunky!  Check it out now: Extraordinary People: The grip who was sponsored by the Terminator

Come out to Jake’s Memory Lane Comics TOMORROW and meet Superstar Comic Artist Phil Jimenez (Infinite Crisis, Wonder Woman, New X-Men) and new comic writer/ animal advocate Scott Lope.
MLC is teaming up with Jimenez, Lope and, of course, the Savage Wolverine to fight Rhino poaching. 100 percent of the proceeds of Savage Wolverine 12 and 13 from our store will be donated to Animal Warriors to help take the fight to the poachers. This is a great family friendly event. We have plenty of copies to get signed by the Marvel Comics creators. The signing starts at 1pm.  In addition to the signing, they’ll have some crazy good specials, including a fifty cent comic sale!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/08/2014 TV Guide Cover, Bad Grandpa Deleted Scenes, Hank and Jed, PCAs and Much More!

Howdy! Another freezing morning, but we got lots to chat about that will make us all warm and fuzzy, much like my brain before coffee.  Let’s start off with our adorable dynamic duo Ichabod and Abbie of Sleepy Hollow!  Nicole Beharie and Tom Mison look fabulous on the cover of TV Guide, don’t you think?  And let me just add how much I LOVE the opening to this TV Guide article by Aubry D’Arminio.

“The end is nigh for Sleepy Hollow‘s first season. And it looks extremely…busy. It’s a stinging-cold December morning at Wilmington, North Carolina’s EUE/Screen Gems Studios. In the nearby woods, a stuntwoman wearing a low-cut, corseted frock is being pulled through the air on a thick cord and dropped nose-first onto a safety mat. “Can she be yanked even harder?” director Ken Olin (thirtysomething) asks the crew member at the other end of the rope. Yes, she certainly can.”

Wilmington.  North Carolina.  EUE/Screen Gems.  Crew – So many of my favorite buzz words in the opening paragraph!

READ TV GUIDE’S “Inside Sleepy Hollow’s Shocking Season Finale”

“Sleepy Hollow collects the most tweets per minute of any current Fox show and is the second most popular new series on social media after The Originals, with nearly 1 million fans across Facebook and Twitter alone.”

under-the-dome-cbsNew characters are coming to Chester’s Mill.  from reports not one, not two, but three.   He says Season 2 will introduce three new characters, including:

Sam: a gruff kinda guy who lives in the woods.  The locals call him a “crazy drunk” which to me translates he will have answers to some dilemmas this season.  He is a relative or was once someone close to one of the characters we know well, but they aren’t saying who.

Rebecca: a 30 something teacher.  Big Jim wants her to get a Dome school going, but of course his motivation isn’t higher education.

A “new girl” in town: A very vague and ageless description, but we know that she is “in to” Joe and Norrie, so we can assume she’s a teen.

MTV is so kind.  Now that the North Carolina shot Bad Grandpa is officially available for digital download, they gave us a bonus!  Here’s an exclusive look at one of the film’s many deleted scenes.  A gem, MTV says,  that’s as good as the pranks that made the final cut.  “Bad Grandpa” will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on January 28.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 11/11/2013 Jill Jones, Amandla Stenberg on set of Sleepy Hollow, A Cucalorus Must See and More.

JillJonesIn case you missed it last week, Jill Marie Jones (Girlfriends) has joined the cast of Sleepy Hollow as Cynthia, the former wife of Frank Irving (Orlando Jones) and mother to their teenage daughter, Macey played by Amandla Stenberg.  (Might I add I love the fact that Jones and Jones are playing the ex married couple.)  Jill and Amandla have been in Wilmywood since last week and their debut episode airs November 25th.  Both have recurring roles, so look forward to having these two lovely ladies in town for a few weeks.  Amandla is already having a great time on set.

Let’s back up a bit and take a look at tonight’s episode, The Midnight Ride, shall we! Abbie and Ichabod look for clues to stop the evil in town; Abbie receives an unexpected visit from Andy Brooks (John Cho).

Bad_Grandpa_USAlthough Thor: The Dark World hammered the competition at the weekend box office earning $86 million in its debut, our North Carolina shot Bad Grandpa remained strong with $11.3 million. The comedy’s three-week total stands at $78.7 million.

CUCALORUSA CUCALORUS MUST SEE: Broadcast – A Man and his Dream is the story of Ralph Epperson growing up in the 1920s and 30s the son of tobacco farmers in the hills of Southwestern Virginia/Northwestern North Carolina and daring to dream of a different life. As a boy he discovered radio and from then on was led by a desire to understand how to transmit sound through the airwaves. This love of technology was coupled with a passion for the broadcast2music native to his growing up, “it was then called old time and now we call it bluegrass,” along with a strong faith in God and community. In 1948 Ralph realized his dream with the opening of his first station, WPAQ 740 AM, Mt. Airy, NC, “the voice of the Blue Ridge” but his dream didn’t stop there. Most of his family followed him out of the tobacco fields and into radio. broadcastToday more than 150 radio stations around the nation owe their beginnings to Ralph Epperson and his dream as well as countless musicians who continued their music and passed along the tradition that still exists today of Blue Ridge style string music. In 2005 Director, Jordan Nance, dared to dream that despite his physical limitations from severe cerebral palsy he could make a film about Ralph and WPAQ. Now in 2013 Jordan’s dream is a reality.

The screening will be on Sunday, Nov 17 at 10:45AM in the studio theatre at Thalian Hall. There will be live bluegrass for those who come a little early and enjoy Jones Smith & Co.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 10/25/2013 EA Games hires local Prod Co Hank and Jed, Under the Dome, Weekend Highlights

Hank and Jed: Brent Triplett, Bryan Mahoney, Jon Etheridge, Nate Panning, Tony Schnur

Our local boys, Hank and Jed Movie Pictures, were hired by EA Games to produce a video that airs this Sunday on Machinima’s Happy Hour Channel as the gaming world gears up for the release of Battlefield 4.  So how did that coolness happen?  Their show Battlefield Friends (BFFs) has completed three seasons, working with the bffsMachinima Network, one of You Tube‘s largest distributors and most subscribed channels.  The Battlefield gaming community quickly caught on and fell in love with the show even catching the eye of game creator DICE as well as its parent company EA Games.  Within the past two years Hank and Jed has developed a relationship with the company and due to the BFF’s millions of views, working together within the social media realm was a win-win for all.  Hank and Jed are also the creators of the medieval comedy Doraleous and Associates, and Minecraft related Mob Squad. Current projects include the next season of Doraleous as well as Season 4 of Battlefield Friends, Battleloggers, Game Idiot and more.  FYI: Hank and Jed will be special guests at Game Stop in Monkey Junction in Wilmington, NC Monday night for the release of BF4.  I believe they will be showing their series during the release party.  You will also have a chance to win an autographed BF4 T-shirt from the folks at DICE.  LIKE the BFFs on Facebook now to stay in the loop!
