The Wilmywood Daily – Week In Review – January 11, 2014 (VIDEO)

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/30/2013 Under the Dome, Sleepy Hollow, Wilmywood Flicks Most Lucrative 2013

Good Morning and Happy Monday to ya!  A slew of praise happening as we finish out the year.  So, let’s continue that trend!  A lot of people were talking about this over the weekend. It wasn’t the top grossing movies, but the most successful ones that got the most bang for their buck and North Carolina has 4 on the list, three of which were shot right here in Wilmywood.  Here are the top 9 most lucrative movies of 2013, according to The Wrap: TheWrap - SuccessSo congrats to the cast and crew of: The Conjuring, Bad Grandpa, We’re the Millers and IM3!  Don’t know what ROI means?  It’s Return Of Investment.  The Wrap explains it in simple terms:

To calculate ROI for a movie, you take how much it grossed, subtract how much it cost and then divide that figure by how much it cost. For example, “Insidious: Chapter 2″ cost $5 million to make. It grossed $160.4 million. So here’s how we did it: $160.4M- $5M = $155.4M. $155.4M/$5M = 31.1.

CES2014Our beloved CBS series Under the Dome is among the honorees at Variety’s upcoming Breakthrough of the Year Awards, which will be held Thursday January 9th in Las Vegas at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).  Dean Norris will be on hand to accept the award. CES is the world’s largest electronics show.  It will attract more than 150,000 attendees and will have close to 3,000 exhibitors. It runs January 7th through the 10th.  READ THE STORY AT VARIETY.COM

I know stories similar to this one have already come out, but when our shows get kudos, you deserve to know. The Global Dispatch reports that due to Amazon’s $700,000 per episode buy,  it made the show profitable before it even aired. (The Amazon licensing deal partnership along with international rights made “Under the Dome” an insanely profitable enterprise, again, before it even aired. ) Because of these factors, the UTD team had less stress with how they crafted the show. Rachelle LeFevre said it best:

“There wasn’t as much pressure,” The CBS execs “were able to make big, ballsy decisions as a result, and success is what comes from that.”

Of course it didn’t hurt that the show was an instant hit.  It was the most watched summer series in more than twenty years.  Nielsen tallied up the live viewing as well as the DVR numbers and estimated that the show averaged 15+million viewers.  Amazon picked up season two, 9 months before it will air, 6 months before filming begins on season two.  That Amazon will continue with the same kind of licensing deal, exclusive domain for the online streaming of the episodes four days after they air.   READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE NOW!

SHWitchesNow onto our other successful television show that has made its home here in Wilmywood. Laurel Brown (@DocBrown_TVdid a great piece as part of Zap2It‘s Year in Review.  It was definitely the Year of the Witch. Laurel highlights some of the best of the best from this years television shows and suggests who could beat up who.  She leaves us with the question: “Will the “Sleepy Hollow” witches dominate 2014?” Awesome Laurel!  It’s a fun piece.  READ IT NOW.

And speaking of some great cast, Lyndie Greenwood says good-bye to Wilmywood:

Nicole Beharie also said good-bye over the weekend as well.  It looks like today just might be the last day of filming the EPIC season finale! Well, that’s the plan anyway! And sorry, I cannot reveal who is left filming.  Wouldn’t wanna spoil the finale for ya!  They never shoot in sequential order anyway, but I’d rather not accidentally give anything away.  We will just have to wait until January 20th to see who is left standing!1016242_434988879942442_1440392906_n

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 11/22/2013 Under the Dome – Mackenzie Lintz’s Birthday call, USA Pilot comes to NC, and more.

UTDPremiere062013_0080Happy Friday!  Boy, did we have some fun this morning.  A HUGE Happy Birthday to Mackenzie Lintz who plays Norrie on Under the Dome!  She called in this morning.  Did you miss it?  LISTEN NOW!  Tweet her your b-day wishes: @MackenzieLintz

Just like Sleepy Hollow, looks like Under the Dome is changing up their shooting schedule for Season two.  Offices are still projected to open in January, but filming might not begin until March 1st.

shane coffeyIf you remember I told you about a USA pilot that would be shooting here in NC. Well, my suspicions are now solidly confirmed.  Moving across the state, that pilot is indeed the drama The Novice.  It’s from Fox 21, who also does Homeland.  They will be filming in Charlotte and the surrounding areas.  They begin production in a couple of weeks. Shane Coffey has landed the lead. He is best known for his role as Holden Strauss in ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars.  Written by Hell On Wheels creators Joe and Tony Gayton.  According to

The Novice centers on Kyle (Coffey), a charming and highly intelligent recent college graduate who is forced to move back home with his parents and siblings when his job search stalls. However, after a strange quirk of fate proves oddly fortuitous, he lands a position with a Korean crime organization.

Under the Dome Interview: Mackenzie Lintz on Homelife, Colin Ford, and the Finale of UTD

If you live in Wilmington and are anything like me, you are totally geeking out about Monday night.  We get our first taste (if you didn’t go to the early screening or couldn’t get in) of Sleepy Hollow and our life Under the Dome comes to an end.  Well, until next year anyway.  Over the past 8 months we’ve had some wonderful talent in our own backyard.  They became our neighbors and our friends.  They are kind, approachable and grateful for the opportunity to work on the #1 show, Under the Dome.  And as we eagerly gear up for Monday, I decided to get in touch with some of our favorite cast members.

Mackenzie Lintz who plays Norrie on Under the Dome took a few minutes to chat about homelife, Colin Ford and of course life under the dome.

SHEILA: Lady! We miss you!  I hope you had a great summer.  Now that Under the Dome has wrapped season one, looks like you have some normalcy back in your life again.  How has your transition been from set tutor back to normal high school life?  Do some teens as school treat you differently because you are on TV?

MACKENZIE: I absolutely LOVE being back in school. I’m in a really small private school so my class is like my family. They don’t treat me any different because they just see me as Kenzie just like they did before Under the Dome. Even though a lot of them watch the show! 🙂

SHEILA: Shane Bates has a great question for you.  This week, we discovered that you are not the only actress in the Lintz clan.  What’s it like living in a family full of actors?

MACKENZIE: Shane, I absolutely love having a family of actors. It’s so awesome because all of us are in different age groups so we don’t really have to compete so it’s easy to cheer each other on and be happy and excited for each other. My brother is actually working in Wilmington (Where UTD is shot) for a future episode of Sleepy Hollow.

SHEILA: Now you know I gotta ask this question ’cause the ladies wanna know!  What’s it like to work with Colin Ford?  Are you two close in real life?  Still stay in touch during the hiatus?

MACKENZIE: Hahaha!! Colin and I have so much fun. It’s actually his 17th birthday today!!  {yesterday} We are constantly laughing on set and doin’ crazy stuff. He’s such a talented actor and it’s so easy to play Norrie when he’s playing Joe.

SHEILA: My friends from Under the Dome Radio Podcast ask, “What can you tell us about Norrie’s dad and will we ever get to see more of that relationship?

MACKENZIE: Papa Norrie won’t be back in Season One, but Season Two will definitely bring a lot of excitement, who knows who will show up!! 🙂

SHEILA: What was the most exciting part about shooting the finale for you?

MACKENZIE: Well, for one thing, we found out while shooting the finale that we were officially picked up for a season 2!! That made goodbyes a lot less sad because we knew it wasn’t goodbye forever.

SHEILA:  Okay, final question.  The biggun’!  Any hints about what we can expect this Monday?

MACKENZIE: All I can tell you about the finale is that it’s one of our MOST exciting episodes, you will find out more about the dome, who the monarch is, and maybe see a familiar face or two. It’s gonna be EPIC!

Just like this interview!  Thanks Mackenzie!  We can’t wait until UTD returns to Wilmington in February!

In an interview with TVLine, Dean Norris gave us a little insight about this Monday night on Under The Dome.

“You’re going to learn a lot about the Dome,” Norris explained. “It’s all very satisfying and it will make you go, ‘Oh, wow. OK, how are they going to play that out in Season 2?’ It sets up for a great second season.”

And don’t think the season’s ending is even close to the book.  Here’s a taste of what’s coming this Monday night.

If you missed Episode 12 last Monday or only caught 30 minutes of it on your DVR (due to the US Open), CBS is running Episode 12 again this Saturday night ay 9pm EST.

UTDPremiere062013_0080We’ve got an interview lined up today with the most adorable Mackenzie Lintz who plays Joe’s little “firecracker” friend Norrie on Under the Dome.  Send me your questions and I will pick from a few and ask her!

And of course I can’t forget to say:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLIN FORD!  He turns 17 today!

Our buddy Tommy Danger needs as many volunteers as possible to 200873_10200195448349369_1964083808_ocome to Wrightsville Beach by the Johnny Mercer Pier to be a part of the new video they are working on for the More Than Just Me Foundation. Please tell your friends. We need all ages, color, shapes, and sizes of people. Friday, September 20th from 6pm-7:30.  Click on the FB invite if you will be attending!

Under the Dome was not only the winner in its time slot but easily took the whole night with 10.71 million viewers.  TV By The Numbers reports:

On CBS, with the Time Warner carriage dispute finally resolved, Under the Dome earned a 2.6, up a tenth from last week’s 2.5 adults 18-49 rating. It’s impossible to say whether the restoration of CBS to TWC customers in 3 markets was responsible for the rise.

Encore Magazine wrote an article yesterday that is a fantastic read about the film incentives and those affected by it. Check it out.

And oooh my goodness, look at what’s arrived!!!! The trailer is here!  Eastbound and Down Season 4!

IMAG0404I had the honor of hanging out on Stage 10, the dream stage of Sleepy Hollow for a bit as our London correspondent, Lauren Watt, is in town.  Let’s just say I was geeking out probably more than she and her mate was!  Major kudos to the crew the production grabbed.  Solid.  If you know me by now, you know there was a major hug fest going on yesterday!    I LOVE OUR NC CREW SO MUCH!  Mad talent! Stage 10 by far is the most beautiful multi-set I have ever seen.  And of course they have also taken over other sound stages as well as the back lot!  Let’s hope Fox is here to stay for a long time.  If the pilot is any indication of how good the show will be, we will have ourselves a long time to love them.  The series premieres September 16th on Fox!

Sleepy Hollow has two units running today. They will be back on stage 10 today and the 2nd unit will be doing some driving scenes on MLK Parkway (23rd St. ramp to N. Kerr intersection).

The Dempsey Sisters wrapped yesterday in Brunswick Forest.

NBC’s Revolution Season One is now out on DVD and Blue Ray as well as digital download!  Get yourself a piece of Wilmington Film History 🙂
