THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 06/09/2015 Dome Days, The Squeeze, Vacationland

Did you see something special in the News and Observer? There is a full page ad (above) provided by the Wilmington Regional Film Commission and Screen Gems. Thanks for this Robbie. “FILM” is spelled out with the names of all the businesses that are part of the Small Business for Film coalition, and the message says:

Small businesses understand the importance of the NC film industry. Film production supports hotels and restaurants, print shops and paint stores, antique dealers and clothing boutiques, equipment rental companies and lumberyards, florists, locksmiths and everything in-between. Legislators, your vote makes a difference. Support small business. Vote Film.

With that being said, while Dirty Dancing is not filming and is holding up $4 million of the grant, I am hearing that the show Vacationland  who very much wanted to stay here has settled on Georgia. I am being told that our NCFilm crew’s getting calls to work on the show. The pilot was filmed here late last year.

Meanwhile the News & Observer’s Spencer Parts hung with us during day one of Dome EddieCahillDays. Check out his article, “CBS drama films third season as NC film industry struggles to compete

In the article Under the Dome cast member Eddie Cahill said he thinks the town (Wilmington) is especially supportive of film. “It feels personal here,” he said. Yeah, Eddie gets it. Nail. Head. Nuff said.

Today is day two of Dome days. I will be heading back to EUE/Screen Gems Studios later this morning to interview some more of the cast. They are currently on Day 7 of Episode 8. And guess who I ran into? The fabulous Eriq LaSalle! Yep he’s back and is ready to direct episode 9 then guest star on a  few episodes too! He will play the ruthless Hektor Martin, the CEO of the energy company run by Barbie’s father played by Brett Cullen. So plan on seein’ Eriq around town for the next couple of months!

The Wilmywood shot, The Squeeze, is out on DVD today! The golf caper stars Christopher McDonald, Jeremy Sumpter, Jillian Murray and Michael Nouri, along with some of our local actors including Michael Rosander, David Andrews, and Logan Siu to name a few.

The Squeeze is a true story about a young man from a small southern town who gets caught in between two notorious gamblers, until the stakes become a matter of life or death. GET IT NOW!

SONY DSCLet’s please give a huge thank you to our Mayor Billy Saffo who spoke out yesterday regarding the film incentives.  He, like us, would like to keep the film incentives the way they are, and spoke out against the grant program.

“Why kill a good thing,” Saffo said. “We have a thousand people that work in this industry, that work here permanently and to lose a thousand jobs would be a tragedy.”  (Speaking about just in the Wilmington area).  And as far as the grant program, Saffo said, “We have been told by the film industry, we have been told by Disney, we’ve been told by every production company that’s working in the state – it will not work.”  READ STORY NOW

Our Domies are heading to the soundstages today.

julietteLOur special agent actress Juliette Lewis turns 41 tomorrow, not looking a day older than 31. She will be returning to Wilmington in a couple of weeks as production for ABC’s Secrets & Lies begins in about four weeks.

It’s day 5 of 46 for The Longest Ride.  They will be downtown today on N 4th. Oona and Jack are back on set today.  Looks like they will also be shooting in Jacksonville as well as Hampstead in the coming days.  Awesome, I dig when they spread the film love across the counties.

What we thought to be indigestion turned out to be Pancreatic Cancer.

After a series of tests for his abdominal pain, a CT scan revealed  a tumor in his pancreas.  Shock and disbelief floods your brain.  In January 2014, Eugene was diagnosed pancreatic cancer.  After a biopsy confirmed that it had spread to his liver, our hearts dropped again.  He is now diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.  As he struggles with extreme pain, with little relief, he is currently undergoing chemotherapy.  The side effects of chemotherapy coupled with pain makes daily life challenging. Directed by Casey La Scala who we remember him…well… A Walk to Remember.  In theaters this fall! THE REMAINING is an action-packed supernatural thriller that addresses questions of life, love and belief against an apocalyptic backdrop. A group of close friends gather for a wedding, but the celebration is shattered by a series of cataclysmic events and enemies foretold by biblical end-times prophecies. The survivors face a horrifying, uncertain future as they scramble for safety, but as their world collapses around them in chaos and terror will they choose real life through faith, or just try to survive?   NC_outline As stated in today’s early morning blog, Raleigh needs to hear from EVERYONE.  There are still thousands of NC residents that love film being in our state that have not voiced their opinion by picking up a phone or sending an email.  Well, today is the day.  Crew, Background actors, small businesses, actors, community leaders!  We need you. Sleepy Hollow Premiere: 98 days

We are back to three productions running in Wilmywood!  It’s day one for The Longest Ride!  They got a very early start this morning over at St. Mary’s.  Looks like first up is the gorgeous Jack Huston and well as the lovely Oona Chaplin.

LolitaCongrats to Lolita Davidovich.  She’s been added to the cast of The Longest Ride.  This British born actress is known for Gods and Monsters (1998), Raising Cain (1992) and Jungle 2 Jungle (1997).

Under the Dome is in Southport for the last day of filming for Episode 10.  Oh boo, that means Eriq LaSalle will be leaving us shortly.  ICYMI, we had a great time at his very first book signing AND he sold out of books!  Here’s a few pics from Saturday!

Sleepy Hollow will be shooting three scenes today as they work mad hours on episode 4. You can find our Sleepyheads doing some driving shots beginning on N. 3rd as well as at the NHC Courthouse aka Sleepy Hollow Police Headquarters and on N. Front St.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 05/20/2014 – What’s going down ‘Under the Dome’, Film Incentives, Locations today

Morning Wilmywood peeps!  It’s was CBS’s big press day yesterday and here’s what we learned about for the upcoming season two of Under the Dome.

UTD_Dean NorrisA more Gentle Big Jim?
Big Jim will have a “come to God or come to dome moment where he believes maybe his purpose in life should be that he shouldn’t be so nasty,” Norris says. “A different kind of Big Jim is required to survive under the dome.” Neal Baer adds, “It’s the season of transformation. This is the year where we will find out what they’re truly made of.” Just like the cocoon?

Max EhrichPeople get out? People get in?
“Maybe someone might possibly get out and maybe some might possibly get in,” Neal says. Max Ehrich plays Hunter who comes into the dome in episode 3. “but only digitally,” says Neal. “There’s a break in the dome that comes through where Internet messages can get through. In episode 3, Norrie and Joe start to get messages from this young man and we will actually meet him in Episode 8.” That is the episode they are working on now!

UTDmagnetic

The Dome has a magnetic personality.
The Dome becomes magnetic, sending all the town’s metal appliances, vehicles, to the walls of the Dome. Won’t do well for anything living. Someone’s bound to receive death by toaster.

Eriq-La-SalleAn ER reunion?
Yep, don’t forget that Neal Baer was EP and writer of that 15 season show!   Sherry Stringfield (Big Jim’s late wife, Pauline) who was also on the medical drama is back for episode 10. ER alum Eriq La Salle will direct that upcoming episode.  She was filming here earlier in the season.  We will be glad to have her back!

Where’s everyone shooting today?

  • Under the Dome – Sunnyvale Dr.
  • Sleepy Hollow – Cotton Exchange – an overnight shoot
  • Max Steel – N. 5th St.

Now, we have done all we can do, letting Gov. Pat McCrory know that we need his help.  It’s time to move on to phase two.  Kinda going back to where we started.  But now more than ever it is very important we reach out to our own legislators and tell them that we support our film incentives and want them to stay!  Don’t know who represents you?  No problem!  (See Below)  It is crucial that you only reach out to those in your district!  Hate to say it this way, but honestly, if you are not a voter in another legislator’s district they could not care less about what you have to say. Make sure in your calls or email to your own representatives you stay positive and let them know how film impacts your life.

The most important people that need to attend are the small businesses. These are the folks we need to put on a bus and send up to Raleigh. So whatever businesses you are friends with please reach out to them and pass this message along. Its so imperative that they come. More important than the crew more important than the background extras because when they see businesses it will really hit home.
