FILM INCENTIVES: Your mission for Monday, June 30, 2014

housnce

Good morning my beautiful North Carolina peeps.  Over the weekend, I was told yet again from those on the inside that what we are doing i.e. making the phone calls and sending emails, is working. BIG TIME. The folks who will decide our fate are feeling the pressure.  So, again I tell you, DO NOT give up.  At this point there is a strong possibility that they will extend the current film incentives for another year, study them carefully and then revisit them in the long session.

IF, and I mean only, IF we keep up the good work we have been doing over the past month.

So, again, PLEASE be polite, and CALL, CALL, CALL.

Today we will be calling The Speaker of the House, Thom Tillis,   Governor Pat McCrory and we will now be putting pressure on Senator Berger.

Let them know you are a voter, let them know your story, and ask them to extend the film incentives AS THEY ARE!

FILM INCENTIVES: Press Conference in Raleigh today 10:30am

There is a press conference today at the NCGA in Raleigh this morning at 10:30am.  Susi Hamilton along with Mayor Bill Saffo, members of the film community and the board of the Wilmington Film Commission will be there to ask Gov. Pat McCrory to visit the production sets in Wilmington while the General Assembly is still in session while they are able to act on extending the film incentives. They will not be promoting the grant program whatsoever.

We should be able to listen on the NCGA web site.

UPDATE:  I caught the audio at around 10:48am : LISTEN NOW

I will keep you posted.

In the meantime, we must continue our mission.

Please continue to call Speaker Tillis and Gov. Pat McCrory‘s office. Today, I want you to tell them your story, let them know what would happen if the film incentives went away. Make it personal. Let them see just how many people if affects and how.

SONY DSCLet’s please give a huge thank you to our Mayor Billy Saffo who spoke out yesterday regarding the film incentives.  He, like us, would like to keep the film incentives the way they are, and spoke out against the grant program.

“Why kill a good thing,” Saffo said. “We have a thousand people that work in this industry, that work here permanently and to lose a thousand jobs would be a tragedy.”  (Speaking about just in the Wilmington area).  And as far as the grant program, Saffo said, “We have been told by the film industry, we have been told by Disney, we’ve been told by every production company that’s working in the state – it will not work.”  READ STORY NOW

Our Domies are heading to the soundstages today.

julietteLOur special agent actress Juliette Lewis turns 41 tomorrow, not looking a day older than 31. She will be returning to Wilmington in a couple of weeks as production for ABC’s Secrets & Lies begins in about four weeks.

It’s day 5 of 46 for The Longest Ride.  They will be downtown today on N 4th. Oona and Jack are back on set today.  Looks like they will also be shooting in Jacksonville as well as Hampstead in the coming days.  Awesome, I dig when they spread the film love across the counties.

The next 36 hours will determine our future in NC Film.

Okay, North Carolina. This is it.  The next 36 hours will determine our future.  North Carolina already has a past of missing the boat and giving our jobs away to other states  i.e. NC Caterpillar plant (1000 Jobs to GA), Continental Tire (2000 Jobs to SC), and Toyota HQ (7000 jobs to TX). Just this week, we lost over 7000 jobs opportunities and nearly ONE BILLION in investments to South Carolina.

And now we stand here watching in awe, with glazed expressions, as the people who “represent” us are doing what they do best, attempting to repeat history.

We need to break the viscous circle and it begins today, and it begins with you.  Your mission should you choose to accept it?

We want the Capital begging for an ark because of all the phone calls and emails flooding Raleigh today.  We want the Governor’s office to hear us so loud, their ears will be ringing  by the end of the day.  We will remain polite and civil, but they will certainly get the message.  They WILL hear our voice.

Raleigh needs to hear from EVERYONE.  There are still thousands of NC residents that love film being in our state that have not voiced their opinion by picking up a phone or sending an email.  Well, today is the day.  Crew, Background actors, small businesses, actors, community leaders!  We need you. All of you. And just because you don’t work in the film industry, does NOT mean you shouldn’t call.  In fact, we NEED your voice in the mix, too.  They need to see that it is all of us who support the industry, not just the workers or vendors.

We need THOUSANDS of calls today, not hundreds.  So gather every friend, neighbor and co-worker, look them in the eye and tell them to make these calls because our film future depends on it.  Hell, dial the number for them!

I’ve been told for the past week that the only reason that our film incentives are still even in the conversation is because of your hard work and the phone calls and emails you have already made and sent.  So, thank you!

Today, you tell Speaker Thom Tillis to SPEAK up!  You tell Governor McCrory to do the right thing and keep our film incentives going.  Tell them to keep them in place and end that damn sunset!  You call your legislator that represents you and tell them you are a voter and you have a voice!

We have lost over 10,000 jobs due to the current leadership, and I’ll be damned if we lose 4200 more.  They are clean, high paying jobs.  Let’s keep them in North Carolina.

Lastly, SHARE SHARE SHARE!  Please pass this blog to all your friends across the state.  They need to hear from EVERY county in North Carolina, today!

Give it everything you got.  EVERYTHING!  Show them who we are and just how many we are.

Let’s do this!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 06/18/2014 Your Mission Today, Under the Dome, Positive Impact Video Campaign

NC_outlineSo, there is a slim chance, they could leave the film incentives alone until next year in the long session. That would mean the new folks we vote for in November can tackle it or leave it the way it is.  These folks up in Raleigh have never experienced such a high volume of calls for one particular issue!  So, keep up the great work!! Flood the phone lines today!

If you work in film, TODAY is your day.  Please, call today!  Just say something to this effect –

“I work in film here in North Carolina, I live in NC, and I vote. I want you to keep the incentive as is, get rid of the sunset, and save my job!!”

FROM JONATHAN LANDAU: In light of the recent actions taken by our NC legislators we have decided to step up our “Positive Impact” video campaign for keeping the film incentives. Some of you may have seen our video “Positive Impact”.

PositiveimpactThe plan is to have people all over the state organize separate video shoots in which they parade people in their area by the camera holding red and blue signs representing people and businesses that are positively impacted by the film industry in NC. It won’t take great equipment and all we are talking about is one shot, with the name of your town as the opening title. If you are interested in organizing and shooting a video in your area please call Jonathan Landau at (910) 520-2815 for further instructions.

A crucial week for our NC Film Incentives.

This is a crucial week for our Film Incentives.  Please continue to make your calls and send your emails to the NC House and especially to the Speaker of the House,  Thom Tillis.

In case you didn’t know, Thom Tillis needs votes from New Hanover County to beat Kay Hagan in November.  This county is crucial for his election.  So, ya know, do the math here.  There are 1000s in New Hanover County that are affected by the film industry.  Plus, they all have friends.

Tillis has the choice to be passionate or passive about the film incentives.  The decisions he makes in the days ahead will determine if you, your friends and/or families can continue to work, pay taxes and raise families in NC or if you uproot your life and leave everything you know and love behind.

PLEASE, DON’T BE PASSIVE! THESE PHONE CALLS ONLY TAKE 20 SECONDS.  PLEASE DO YOUR PART FOR YOURSELF, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR FAMILY, AND NORTH CAROLINA’S FUTURE!

Tell him to HELP us!
