THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 03/12/2014 Joyce Gilliard, Jack Bender, UTD, SNL, Red Zone, How & Why

cropped-utdset062013_0012.jpgHUMP DAAAYYY!  Let’s do this! Under the Dome returns to EUE/Screen Gems wrapping up the premiere episode.  I think they are on more sound stages this season.  That means more cool locations we will never see until the show. Argh! Later this week they will head to some of their favorite spots in Currie and Burgaw.

EP Jack Bender

Jack Bender directed the first episode for season two.  Not only is he a talented director, but a talented artist as well.   The Wilma W. Daniels Gallery (200 Hanover St.) will be showcasing his work beginning this Saturday.  The artwork will be on display from the 15th through the 29th of this month.  Three of his pieces will be from Season One  of Under the Dome.  Think Pink Stars!  We will also get a sneak peek at some of the beautiful pieces for the upcoming season. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 12pm-5pm.  However, a special night is reserved for you to mingle with the artist that is Jack Bender on Saturday, March 22nd from 6pm-9pm.

Our beautiful hair stylist Joyce Gilliard, who got injured on the set of Midnight Rider in Jesup, GA and airlifted to the hospital, is getting her stitches out this morning.  She thanks everyone for her support.  She said she misses her Sleepy Hollow family and she looks forward to working again one day, but right now her main focus is healing.  Completely.  Love to you beautiful lady!  She took to tweeting this morning with an update.

ABC’s Secrets and Lies headed downtown super early this morning to CFCC’s Union station.  It’s gonna be a big scene, lots of extras.

michael-cera-john-hawkesYesterday, we reported FX is FINALLY doing some scouting around Wilmington this week.  Charlie Kaufmann’s How and Why stars Michael Cera and John Hawkes.  Production offices open in about two weeks.

Paul Hannah

Paul Hannah

The Sin Seer‘s producer and director flew in from LA this week as auditions are currently underway.  They are all about hiring as many locals as they can.  This includes actors and crew.  So congrats to you if you have an audition lined up with Overflow Entertainment‘s Paul Hannah and Angela White!

melissaMelissa McCarthy is on one hell of a subliminal marketing campaign connecting the views of Mike & Molly with her upcoming feature film Tammy, shot of course right here in Wilmywood.  If you remember she had Susan Sarandon on a couple of episodes on her CBS sitcom.  Next up?  Kathy Bates.  How many other cast members will guest star as we lead up to the Tammy release on July 2nd?

And speaking of Tammy, a little FYI, Allison Janney will be on Queen Latifah today!

Some UNCW students are shooting a short documentary on the film incentives.  They have been interviewing people like Aaron Syrett from the NC FIlm Office, Wilmington Film Commission’s Johnny Griffin and Screen Gems’ Bill Vassar.

Shaun_KeepItRollingAs stated on their Facebook page, “Keep It Rolling” is a short documentary film about the North Carolina Film Tax Incentive and it’s significance to a healthy economy in North Carolina. Directing is Robert Conley. Sarah Flores is producing.  They are concerned about their future as well as everyone else’s. Show some love and support to these college students and LIKE their Facebook Page.

If you are wonder what Kim Stewart is up to, she’s busy working on casting Upwards with director Gary Wheeler.  The project is shooting in Charlotte.

Great news, after a short dry spell, looks like Wilmywood will get a little action.  The Remaining (a flick from AFFIRM Films, a division of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA), and Cinematic) wrapped here in Wilmington on March 18th.   Well, they are returning to Wilmywood for re-shoots.  Looks like some of the folks from the church scene will be asked to come back as they are re-shooting that and a camping scene.  They are setting up offices at Screen Gems Studios by the end of the week and re-shoots should begin around next Wednesday.

The Spy Kid turned gorgeous woman, Alexa Vega, leads the cast alongside Shaun Sipos, Italia Ricci, Johnny Pacar, Bryan Dechart and Liz E. Morgan star in this thriller directed by Casey La Scala who is known for Donnie Darko, A Walk to Remember and What a Girls Wants.

“THE REMAINING is a horrific yet beautiful story of what life could look like in the hours after the world as we know comes to an end.” ~AffirmFilms

It looks like Bolden! is staying on schedule as offices are getting prepped in Hub D also at Screen Gems.   They are scheduled for pre-production September 23rd.  Construction will be ongoing until January (if they stay on schedule) when they are expected to begin reshoots or more like redos as they have recast the lead role.

Dome Day is here once again.  Under the Dome is on CBS at 10pm.  We are on episode 12, just one more to go!  Seems as though folks are gathering at The Cellar tonight for a viewing party for UTD, as Hell’s Kitchen I was told is doing football.  But everyone will go back to Hell’s Kitchen next Monday, the 16th and it will be HUGE as it will be the Season Finale of Under the Dome and the Season Premiere of Sleepy Hollow!

Our awesome lady, Jolene Purdy (Dodee from Under the Dome) will be on ‘OMG! Insider‘ tonight! Make sure to catch it!

Sleepy Hollow  is back at the old Brunswick hospital.  Their 2nd unit is shooting on the backlot today.

Our busy man, Gary Wheeler is directing his next flick, Mountaintop.  Location will be, yep you guessed it, in the mountains.  Our lovely lady Kim Stewart is casting.  They begin shooting in October.

Though no official word is out, crew members are still saying Bolden! is coming back in two weeks.  And it’s all building, building, building!  Rumors still say besides Wilmington, they plan on shooting of course in New Orleans, but also in Atlanta as well.  Principal photog isn’t set until January.  When the official news comes out, I will let you know!

AmerBibleChallengeDon’t forget, if game shows are your thing, auditions for the American Bible Challenge hosted by Jeff Foxworthy is coming to Charlotte, Saturday September 14th from 10am-4pm at the Doubletree Suites by Hilton!  Our girl Holland Weathers is casting.  If you are from the Wilmington/Raleigh area, please let Holland know you are coming by emailing her:  Also, we are scoring from swag to give away courtesy of Holland as well!  Stay tuned for that!!

Did you go to the movies this weekend?  The North Carolina-filmed independent feature from ReelWorks Studios The Ultimate Life is now showing!  The movie was shot in Rockingham, Rowan and Forsyth counties earlier this year.  Directed by Michael Landon, Jr. the flick stars Drew Walters, Bill Cobbs, David Mann, Ali Hillis, and Peter Fonda.

“Despite his best intentions, billionaire Jason Stevens can’t find enough time to keep his beloved Alexia a priority. But when he discovers his late grandfather’s journal, he is transported back to Red Stevens’ incredible world. With everything he loves hanging in the balance, Jason Stevens hopes the past will prepare him well for the future. ”

According to the NC Film office, “Production on The Ultimate Life lasted for about five months in the state, with principal photography lasting for 30 days earlier this year.  The production is estimated to have had a direct in-state spend of about $4 million while providing approximately 450 job opportunities.”

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning (unless something breaks) and every weekday morning at 7:30am & 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me:  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Or just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 05/21/2013 – Melissa McCarthy, EBD, UTD and More

It was the final day of production for The Perfect Summer.  The day ended with Sydney Penny (All My Children) and Louis Mandylor (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). Major kudos to Director Gary Wheeler and Casting Director Kim Stewart.  Here’s a few shots from the last day:

As seen in yesterday’s update, Eastbound and Down: Season 4s new production start date will be around June 11th.    It was originally slated to begin filming around the 28th of this month.  Danny McBride is in town so be on the lookout for Kenny!

Tammy-ExtrasAnother crazy day as the Tammy cast and crew returns to Spring Lake Park in Boiling Springs Lake today.  Another fun day of over 200 extras and the hilarity of Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon.  There was definitely talk in the extras holding pen as the killer tornado in Oklahoma passed through the town of Moore.  People were definitely affected.  It also affected Melissa’s TV show.

CBS decided to pull Monday night’s season finale of Melissa McCarthy’s Mike & Molly because its plot featured a tornado.  The network said in a statement, “Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight’s season finale of Mike & Molly, which has a related storyline.”  Instead, the network opted to show a repeat, but added, “The season finale will be broadcast at an appropriate date.”

The episode now on the shelf is titled Windy City. A network plot summary reads: “As [a] tornado descends on Chicago, Mike and Molly each confess important news to each other.”

Under the Dome will be on 15th St. near downtown Wilmington for the remainder of the day.  That’s means you have another opportunity to catch a glimpse of Mike Vogel and Rachelle LeFevre on location today.

Be on the lookout because another megastar rolls into town this week!

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me:  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Until then, that’s a wrap!
