THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/27/2013 – Fox’s Wild Blue, Sleepy Hollow Filming Today, and More.

Good Friday Morning Wilmywood!  As we get ready for the weekend, I definitely have something for you to chat about as a question popped up that needs to be answered.

What the hell happened to the naval drama that was supposed to shoot here?

AircraftCarrierRemember the Fox pilot we talked about ages ago?  I believe it was in May we first caught wind of Wild Blue.  Yeah, that long ago.  This pilot would have had one of the biggest budgets in history for its pilot, reaching $15 million.  They called on department heads and cast the show.  Everything was good to go. They were literally a day away from building the air craft carrier here in the Wilmywood area. Then, they decided to do another rewrite. Then…Nothing.  And there has been nothing said for seven months.  So what the hell happened?  No, it didn’t move to Georgia or Louisiana, it just kinda fizzled out.

Nellie over at Deadline, gives us more insight:

Nellie_DeadlineFox had been very interested in getting a naval drama on the air — last season it bought a second script with a similar setting, from House executive producers Russel Friend & Garrett Lerner and 20th Century Fox TV, which also took place on a naval aircraft carrier and had an upstairs/downstairs dynamic. In the end, one of the two, The Bridge, renamed Wild Blue, was picked up to pilot in January. The pilot cast most of its roles, bringing in Mykelti Williamson, Josh Salatin, Will Rothhaar, Alano Miller and Gina Rodriguez. But the older lead remained uncast, with Tim McGraw, who was the top choice, engaging in conversations but ultimately walking away.

It looks like Sleepy Hollow is the King of “Best Of” lists.  Yep, more kudos for our headless show.  3 more to chat about.  Let’s start with what our friend and NC crew member Darla passed along.  Actually, Under the Dome and Sleepy Hollow both made this list!

Variety’s Rick Kissell (@ratesrick) summarizes:

“Five Rookies Among Primetime’s Top-Rated Series of 2013 NBC’s “The Blacklist,” ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” and Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow” were the standout newcomers this fall, making the top 25 along with a pair of shows that bowed earlier in the calendar year: Fox’s “The Following” in January and CBS’ “Under the Dome” in June.

Next up is  Another Best of 2013 list.  Our lovely Ashlea over at WECT reported that Sleepy Hollow tied with Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards in the category of Best New Fall Drama on a list compiled by  READ ASHLEA’S STORY NOW

And finally Hunter from the Star News found this one from EW.  This time it’s more specifically geared toward Tom Mison, naming him one of the Breakout Stars of 2013.  EW puts our Brittish hottie-tottie at #7 on their list.

SG10A few of the Sleepy Hollow folks are in town finishing up the big finale which will air January 20th.  @TomMinsonFans will be happy to know that both Tom and Nicole are back in town.  They are filming on the lot today.   The 2-hour, episode 12/13 combo airs at 8pm EST.  And remember episode 11 entitled “Vessel” airs January 13th at 9pm EST.  They shoot from tomorrow until at least the end of the year.

Oh, the excitement over the past few days! First let’s kick it off with you!  I 399763_4508207793860_2135126136_ncannot stress enough how important it is to sign the petition.  If you wanna see how much the NCFilm industry has an affect on our state in a positive financial way, check out the annual reports on

utd_wilmington_premiere_sunnyOkay, now I am really getting pumped about the this!  The Under the Dome ticket giveaway on Sunny 104.5 could happen as soon as Monday!  So stay tuned and we will be giving full details on the air.  The folks will be on Chestnut St. today, then move to the lot for the remainder of the day.

20130605_201256-1I met another star yesterday on the set of Tammy.  Gary Cole (Office Space) was on set to shoot a few scenes.  They stay at the Blue Post (Blue Post Bar-B-Que in the movie) downtown for a third day.  No telling if they will be sticking to their schedule due to the first named storm of the season coming this way. They’ve already switched shooting schedules around to get many exterior shots out of the way before TS Andrea passes through Wilmington from the Gulf Coast.  I will be back on set today, so I will get more details!  The big 4th of July scene with Kathy Bates is next week They will be shooting that off Masonboro Sound.  Marty is looking for ladies 40+ for the big lesbian bash. And no you don’t have to be one to play one.  You must be available, June 11-14. Gonna be an awesome crazy 3 days for this scene! Check her FB page for all the details. When Marty posted this casting call yesterday, she got over 3000 emails inquiring about the gig from all around the world!  Good Luck sifting through all that, Marty!  Baaahahaaaa, awesome!

I haven’t talked about Fox’s Wild Blue in a while because if you remember production was shut down last month as they went into rewriting mode.  But I did get some new intel that might bring us hope.  Right now this is strictly rumor, but a source tells me that the lease of the property has not been pulled.  That is definitely a good sign.  Originally it was thought that if they did return to Wilmington it would be a late June start, but now I am hearing it is more likely that production would begin in September.  Wild Blue will have one of the biggest budgets in history for its pilot, reaching $15 million.  The cast list includes Mykelti Williamson (Bubba of Forrest Gump) as Master Chief Donald Bowman along with Josh SalatinWill RothhaarAlano Miller and Gina Rodriguez.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every weekday morning at 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me:  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Or just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 05/09/2013 Red Dead Dedemption, Fox’s Wild Blue, CFIFF and more

Lots of little tidbits and reminders today!  Let’s start with some star sightings.  This time was at Mayfaire.  The stars got a chance to get off the set any enjoy some of Wilmington’s finer things.  Like food!  We gotta add Roko Italian Cuisine to the list of restaurants in Wilmington where Hollywood dines.  Both Melissa McCarthy and Dan Aykroyd, who are here shooting the comedy, Tammy, dined there this week.  Tammy is shooting once again on Nun St.

Okay, moving on.  Under the Dome is back in Burgaw.  IMG_4108The Perfect Summer is in Carolina Beach again – just interior shots,  so no star gazing today.  Had to throw in this pic from yesterday.  Looks like our local surfer, Tony Silvagni  and Eric Roberts are best buds since the shoot yesterday.  Tony is Eric’s surf double in the movie.

Today is the last day to see Arthur Newman in theaters, so make your plans to head to Carmike Cinemas for this limited release!  (check Tuesday’s blog post for showtimes).

I haven’t said much about the Fox Network’s Wild Blue in a while mainly because there is not much going on.  My sources tell me the production has been pushed back.  Actually quite a few productions have, including Eastbound and Down.  From what I am hearing one reason for the delay is that the crew is all working on other productions.  I suppose now’s a great time to get into the field, if that is what your passion is!  SEE LATEST BREAKING NEWS ABOUT WILD BLUE HERE. Wild Blue stars Mykelti Williamson (Bubba of Forrest Gump) as Master Chief Donald Bowman along with Josh SalatinWill RothhaarAlano Miller and Gina Rodriguez.

I will be interviewing Rob Wiethoff, the voice of JOHN MARSTON on the video game, Red Dead Redemption.  He will be among the many attending Port City Pop Con this weekend at the Wilmington Convention center.  His interview will be up later today (or tomorrow). Get your tickets now!  Meet cast members of The Walking Dead, Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson, Dee Wallace, Margot Kidder, Noah Hathaway (Atreyu in the Neverending Story), Hank and Jed Movie Pictures (creators/cast members of Battlefield  Friends and Doraleous & Associates) and so many more!

The 13th Annual Cape Fear Independent Film Festival begins today and it includes the screening of Heart of the Country, starring Gerald McRaney, and Jana Kramer. It  was shot here last year. For a complete schedule of events, head to

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 04/25/2013 Fox TV brings more jobs, Revolution’s return and more

I really hope that all the representatives and other politicians across the state read my blog because I am kicking it off with something to remind them of what the film industry does for our area. The Fox Network’s Wild Blue is bring more action here in the area, but more importantly a HUGE budget.  My sources tell me it’s one of the most expensive TV pilot’s in history with a budget of $15 million.  A few weeks ago, we know they were scouting the Coty Inc. plant in Rocky Point.  I cannot confirm whether they will indeed use that location as other sources tell me they will be taking over an old out of business yacht building company. The best part, of course, with that big budget is JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!  They will be employing a lot of people.

I was told they plan to completely replicate the top deck on an aircraft carrier.  Then, they will digitally put in the ocean in post.  That is great news for construction workers, i.e carpenters, painters, electricians, and the many vendors they will need supplies from!  Pre-production could begin as early as this Monday.  Thank you Fox! Fox’s Wild Blue is about a group of men and women working aboard a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier.  It stars Mykelti Williamson (Bubba of Forrest Gump) as Master Chief Donald Bowman along with Josh SalatinWill RothhaarAlano Miller and Gina Rodriguez.

Now let’s move on to NBC.  We have waited patiently for official word on two things about our beloved show, Revolution. 1) Is there a season two? and 2) Will they return to Wilmington?  Wanna know what my reliable sources tell me?  How about yes and yes!  Let’s hope my peeps are right about this!   Official word is supposed to come out May 13th.  Plus, if you remember,  the cast LOVES Wilmington.  They all said they did not want to relocate. I don’t blame them.  With beach season approaching fast, who wants to be stuck in a major city with no sea breeze?

The Vampire Diaries airs on the CW tonight.  Don’t forget to be on the look out for our local boy, Scott Parks who plays the evil Silas!

And on a final note, who’s ready for Port City Pop Con?  Check out this spot for the convention by Joe Stauffer.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am live on Sunny 104.5.  Got scoop?  email me:  Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 04/10/13 – Tammy, Wild Blue, Under the Dome, and more!

Under the Dome will be filming in Southport today.

Tammy, the big budget flick starring Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates is still in pre-production.  But if you are looking to be an extra on this comedy, they will begin taking submissions within the next two weeks.  I, of course, will give you the info you need when I am allowed to tell you.

Plus, I’ve got more scoop for ya on this movie,  really really big news actually, but I will reveal that tomorrow.  Wow, I totally did a Ryan Seacrest on ya there, didn’t I?  I will tell you…after the break!

But I digress…

The lovely Cassie Foss at the Star News solved the mystery yesterday, about the pilot looking to shoot here in June.  It’s coming from the Fox network.  Wild Blue is about a group of men and women working aboard a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier.  So far they have been scouting the Coty Inc. plant in Rocky Point.  It stars Mykelti Williamson (Bubba of Forrest Gump) as Master Chief Donald Bowman along with Josh Salatin, Will Rothhaar, Alano Miller and Gina Rodriguez.

The show will follow a group of young working sailors aboard a battleship.  Hey Fox, we got one of those!  Just sayin’!   No word whether a location scout have been to the USS North Carolina.

Still not counting out Dolph Lundgren’s Rescue 3 coming here yet.

UNCW Seahawks one more day to win a contest that would bring  actors Seth Rogen and Craig Robinson to campus for an advanced screening of the comedy This is the End, which will hit theaters in June.

The web site Eventful is hosting a contest for the celebs to show up at the college with the most online demands

The contest ends tomorrow.  VOTE HERE.   UNCW is in second place, only behind the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Tickets are officially on sale!  Ironman 3 – filmed right here in Wilmington and the surrounding area will open in local cinemas on May 3 in three different formats, including 3D and IMAX.  Of course they will have the midnight showings as well.   Purchase your tickets now from Fandango!
