Hope on the Horizon / Rumors from the Lot

It’s been a hot minute since the last blog post and well, you know why that is. Besides Season 2 of TNT’s Good Behavior shooting here, there’s not much action film-wise in the Port City. However, it looks like a change (or more like a return) could be right around the corner.

This week, EUE/Screen Gems Studios sent out the news to over 1300 production companies that you can count Wilmywood in for their next production. The email stated that effective immediately, North Carolina has committed to long term, recurring funding which provides grants equal to 25% of the North Carolina qualifying expenditures.

As of July 1, 2017, we have $33.6 million in funding available. On July 1, 2018 we will have $31 million in yearly recurring funding.

Executive Vice President at EUE/Screen Gems Studios, Bill Vassar, thanked our local legislators for having the vision to make changes in the incentive grant to make us more competitive down the road. “This is really hopeful,” he said. “As this has been developing with the legislators and word has gotten out that something was going to change, that there would be positive changes in the incentive, we’ve had an increase of interest of people coming here to shoot.”

Nothing is set in stone at this point. I know that’s the last thing you want to hear. And Bill couldn’t give me specifics to share, so you know how I do. I rely on other sources. So what’s the latest “Rumors from the Lot?”

I am not going to mention specific names of shows cuz, let’s be frank, I’d get in some deep doo-doo. But I can say, there’s a pilot, two television series and a feature that I know for sure are at least considering Wilmywood as their home. The operative word is CONSIDERING. Again, nothing set in stone.

Now I’ve got mixed reports about a project heading to Charlotte. Some people tell me they are gearing up to start in a couple of weeks. Does that mean opening offices in two weeks or start production in two weeks? That, I don’t know. Regardless, I am still marking this as a rumor for now.

I did some digging and last month, it was mentioned that a feature called We Were Liars was going to film in New York and North Carolina. Production was set to begin in August. So, that could indeed be it. If you’ve got more details on this one, holla!

That’s all I’ve got for now. I know it’s not much, but it sure is something to be hopeful about!

As soon as I get more details, I’ll let you know!

As for all the wonders of Wilmywood, our History Channel show, SIX will be taking a 3 week hiatus. I spoke with an A & E rep this afternoon and he said they are six_clappercatching up on some writing and will be back and revving to go in May. I know some of the cast members will be hanging around during their break, enjoying Azalea Fest, Pleasure Island Chowder Cook off, and all that Wilmington has to offer in the Spring.

TNT’s Good Behavior is still filming around town and this week and next week they will be on location on Castle St., Churchill Dr. and the NC State Ports.

Okay, now on to Wilmywood…first things first. Leo is NOT moving to Wilmington. I repeat Leonardo DiCaprio is NOT Buying Home in Wilmington. I can’t believe so many people actually fell for this one. If you missed this one Leonardo-DiCaprio-777x437over the weekend, THIS was posted just about everywhere via Facebook.  It only takes a moment to go to their ABOUT US section to know that “MBY News is a fantasy news site.  All news articles on mbynews.com are satire or pure fantasy.” So, now you know, sorry to disappoint.

While we may not have Leo, we do have the fabulous cast of SIX, that should make you feel a whole lot better 🙂 So where are these fabulous cast members?

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 03/14/2016 Six, Good Behavior, Voting

@LeslilinkaG "How lucky am I to be working with this extraordinary cast...@SixHistory

Ahhhh! The day has come!  It’s back to work for some more Wilmington film crew members. Today is day one of production for the History Channel series Six. That makes two productions running. It’s like we’re ALMOST back to normal.

The fact that we can run 5 crews deep means that a lot of our crew members are still working out of state or will be in Western NC. But hey, it does feel great to report on two productions rolling at once.

FOX’s Shots Fired will start production in Charlotte in about 2-3 weeks. April will also bring us Dirty Dancing and Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri further west in the Asheville area.

You’ll spot the lighting and grip trucks downtown today as they shoot on the steps of the Post Office on Front Street and Union Station on the campus of Cape Fear Community College.

TNT’s Good Behavior will be shooting around Screen Gems today.

LAST CHANCE TO VOTE: The early voting period is over.  Your last chance to vote in the North Carolina Primaries will be tomorrow.  ICYMI: Why NC Film supporters in NHC must vote in the Primaries.
