Wilmington Casting Director heads to Georgia for next production.

With no jobs in sight in North Carolina for any film crew members, it was been a mass exodus to California and Georgia.  Most are leaving permanently, but a few are commuting for now.

Marty Siu of Marty Siu Casting is one of those commuters. She has been named extras casting director for season two of WGN’s Underground. Season one was shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, however since the state totally reworked their film incentives, the production left the state for Savannah, Georgia.

Production for the 10 episode season begins August 29th and will film through December 1st.

North Carolina background actors who are looking for work and can work as a local in Savannah, please visit Marty Siu Casting‘s Facebook page tomorrow for details.

Just four short years ago, North Carolina was one of the most sought after states to film on the East Coast. During that time,  the North Carolina General Assembly along with Governor Pat McCrory made many changes to state law and state budgets.  Currently, there are no productions lined up for North Carolina.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 08/31/2015 NC Film booms Box Office, NC CD picks up GA job, TNT in Wilmywood

As Box Office Mojo put it, War Room was the story of the weekend!

On Friday, the North Carolina shot (Cabarrus/Mecklenburg counties) faith-based film War Room claimed the #1 spot beating Straight Outta Compton, a feat bigger budget films could not accomplish. War Room took in $4,045,000, on Friday while Compton garnered $3,850,000. In the end however, Straight Outta Compton won the top spot with $13.2M vs War Room with $11M.

Box Office Mojo has more on the story..

Warroom2“Sony’s faith-based film from their Affirm division flew so far under the radar that it didn’t even get a Cinemascore. But it nearly stole Compton’s title and, at the same time, became the biggest hit for the Kendrick brothers, director Alex Kendrick and his writer/producer brother, Stephen. Their modestly-budgeted flicks have a great return on investment. War Room has a reported budget of $3.5M while their 2011 police officer film, Courageous, had a $2M budget, going on to a domestic cume of $34.5. Their 2008 fireman flick, Fireproof, had a $33.5M domestic cume on a budget of $500K.” READ MORE NOW

AdrenalineNow some of those actors who are in War Room are also starring in this NC shot flick. Adrenaline is showing at Mayfaire’s Regal Cinemas on September 8th 7:30pm. There are only a handful of tickets left. The Adrenaline Barracuda and Chevy Nova will be on display the night of the screening, and you get to hang with the actors!  Get tickets here: https://www.tugg.com/events/30590.  NOTE: Joseph Simpkins says that you cannot show up at the theater and buy your tickets, only through the TUGG link above.

tumblr_static_chris-evans-v_a7431_1_png_640x480_upscale_q90Jobs are slim pickins these days in North Carolina if you are a crew member and many are heading out to as far as Illinois, but Georgia seems to be the most popular location. And that includes casting directors. Although she is not moving, which makes it very difficult when you are a single mother of 3 kids, you gotta go where the work is.
The latest production our lovely local lady, Marty Siu of Marty Siu Casting, is working on is in Savannah, GA.

“I’ll be doing extras casting for the new movie in Savannah, called, Gifted, starring Chris Evans,” says Marty. “It starts filming Oct 7th. Folks can tune in to my website tomorrow for details.”

If you are in the area and would like to work on the flick, head to Marty’s Facebook page.  Congrats on the job girl, but we wish you could stay here!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 11/17/2014 The Choice’s Wrap Party, Day one for Blue Mountain State and more.

Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland kicks off production today in Currie.  And will actually spend a lot of time there.  Good vibes going out to the cast and crew today!

Bolden is back on the stages in Rock Point. They swing into Wilmington tomorrow.

Even though The Choice has a few more days of shooting, the production had their wrap party yesterday afternoon at the local favorite Satellite Bar and Lounge. In attendance was Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer, Jesse Boyd, Tom Wilkinson to name a few.

Director Ross Katz got up and wished North Carolina well on our troubles we are facing with our fading film incentives saying, “I hope you guys have lots and lots of more movies down here in spite of the tax incentives situation, but I am sure I will see you on other films, I hope. I also wanna thank those folks who have given us their homes to shoot in. Thank you. The movie was beautiful thanks to your generosity.” He went on to give major kudos of course to the cast and the office staff who never gets enough love.” Great speech Ross!

The Choice is shooting in Whiteville today. Jesse Boyd should be happy about that.  It’s his hometown!  And yes, FINALLY, Tom Welling is back on set today!

Sleepy Hollow is filming on Stage 6 at Screen Gems today. And of course it’s another Sleepy night tonight!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 06/03/2014 Brian K Vaughan leaves Under the Dome, Sleepy Hollow premiere date and more.

Last night at California’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Fox held a press evening including the stars of Sleepy Hollow, including multiple bodies sans heads.   They held a screening at the mausoleum (I mean, where else would you screen Sleepy Hollow?) and of course a panel discussion in which Fox announced the premiered date for season two!  FINALLY.  It will be Monday, September 22nd at 9/8c. READ MORE ABOUT PRESS DAY.

Our Sleepyheads will be shooting on Forest Hills Dr and on One Tree Hill Way.

Lauren_ColinYesterday, my good friend Lauren who is visiting from the UK got the chance to meet some of our Domies while on set. Colin Ford,  Rachelle Le Fevre, and Alexander Koch were of course the sweetest.  Can’t say I blame them because when Lauren starts talking, you can’t help but be hypnotized by that accent!

How did this pass us by?  It looks like writer/EP Brian K Vaughan has left Under the Dome.  My buddies from Under the Dome Radio sent me a link to a recent interview.

“I actually left my position at Under The Dome a few months ago,” Brian said. “It was the great thrill of my life to help adapt one of the best book’s ever from my all-time hero, but I’ve got two very young kids at home who I never got to see last season, so I’m enormously grateful to CBS and Amblin for letting me out of my contract a little early.  I’m already missing the cast and crew.” READ MORE NOW!

And in case you missed it, CBS is airing a one-hour special on Monday, June 23 (one week before the premiere) as we gear up for the big day!  Don’t miss it!

Yesterday, before our leading lady Ana Villafane flew back to Los Angeles after wrapping on Max Steel, she held me to my promise.  A Fro Yo date.  As I told you before this lady is something quite special and she is gonna be a star, mark my words!  We talked all things Wilmington, Macaroons, and of course Max Steel.  She fell in love with Wilmywood and looks forward to returning in the future.  Yes, that was a hint.
