Christmas in Conway hits the small screen on Sunday on ABC (locally WWAY) at 9pm EST. The movie stars Mary-Louise Parker, Andy Garcia and Mandy Moore.

It’s a beautiful story of a man so in love with his wife that he will do anything to make her happy — even building a Ferris wheel in their back yard. But the next-door neighbor isn’t exactly thrilled. She’s determined to win Conway’s best-decorated-yard contest, and she has the law on her side — her brother just happens to be the town sheriff! Tears and laughter — an entertaining mix in this new Hallmark Hall of Fame production.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 10/15/2013 – Squeeze Cast, Christmas in Conway Premiere, Sleepy Hollow

JillianMurray

Jillian Murray

More actors and actresses have arrived in Wilmington for The Squeeze.  Yesterday, I reported that Jeremy Sumpter arrived.  Now I can tell you Christopher McDonald, Jillian Murray and Katherine LaNasa flew in yesterday.

Katherine LaNasa

Katherine LaNasa

Jillian is an up and coming actress who is really popping this year.  The Squeeze will one of 5 films she is working on in 2013.  As for Katherine you might remember her in The Frozen Ground or better yet, The Campaign as Rose Brady.

chrismcdonald

Chris McDonald

The most recognizable face however is Christopher McDonald.  You’ve seen him in, well…what haven’t you seen him in!  Chris been in over 160 projects along with 8 flicks yet to be seen.  I think he is most famous for playing the best jerk ever, Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore.  At the airport, he was instantly spotted and some Wilmington folks said he was super nice to everyone while taking pictures with a few fans at baggage claim.

Conjuring

The Conjuring and Iron Man 3, are in the running for Movie of the Year for the 2013 Hollywood Movie Awards.  They need your vote to make that happen!   The awards will be presented October 21st.   Today is the LAST DAY to vote!  VOTE NOW!

WWAY is proud to annnounce we now have a premiere date for Christmas in Conway!  Mark your calendars for December 1st.  It will air on WWAY, our ABC affiliate.  The movie stars Mary-Louise Parker, Andy Garcia and Mandy Moore. READ WWAY ARTICLE

filmjobsLobbyists from Raleigh visited with Wilmington City Council during their agenda brief yesterday. The lobbyist’s spoke about what the local lawmakers could expect in 2014. The Lobbyists said that one of the most important issues facing the state concerns film incentives.

“We’re working to try and educate legislators,” said Harry Kaplan of McGuire Woods Consulting firm in Raleigh. We continue to educate them about the importance of that film credit both here in Wilmington and New Hanover County, but also across North Carolina, the jobs and economic development that it brings to the state.”

Thom Tillis,  Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, has already said he supports keeping the incentives in the state. The state film incentive legislation is currently set January, 1 2015.  Learn more about the film incentives.

tommisonAnd last not not least how about a standing ovation for another great episode of Sleepy Hollow! Ichabod kept us laughing out loud with his “impenetrable barrier” issues with plastic and his fascination with scotch tape.  But of course, the suspense, drama and curiosity blended in perfectly.  Like butter baby!  Kudos to writer Melissa Blake for her mad skills and to 12 year old Matt Lintz for a great performance!   I will be posting, per usual, the ratings in a separate blog today by 11:30am EST.

SH_Headless

There’s nothin’ more fun than filming at the Bellevue Cemetery in the month of October!   They will be shooting tonight at that location on Princess Place Drive.  Perhaps you will see good ole Headless as he chases another character on horseback.  Awesome!  God, I love this town!

Need to catch up on episodes?  Watch them all NOW only on FOX! Remember, Sleepy Hollow is being interrupted by baseball, so the next episode airs November 4th!

There was a big buzz on the set of Eastbound and Down yesterday, the final day for EBD.  Sacha Baron Cohen graced us with his presence, well on the lot anyway.  He was here for the past few days.  I wonder if he actually got to see a ‘lil of Wilmywood besides the lot?  Hope so.  The gang has moved on to Charlotte.  But before Danny McBride left Wilmywood, he did say he hopes to bring more projects here.  Um, Loomis Fargo w/ Jim Carrey and Owen Wilson, perhaps!  After all he and Jody Hill did write and the word remains, they are looking at early 2014.

SNOW DAY!  Yesterday Christmas in Conway turned into Christmas in August as a wonderful holiday scene was shot with plenty of snow!  The gang was back at the ferris wheel location in Forest Hills and from what I heard, it was a very touching scene between Andy Garcia and Mary Louise Parker.  There were a lot of background extras and I heard a lot of hot Firemen.  Ha!  Kudos to the actors and background for staying pleasant while wearing their winter wear with the weather in the 80s.  (Kinda like working on Sleepy Hollow perhaps?)

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every weekday morning at 7:30am & 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Or just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 08/19/2013 EBD improves City of Wilmington, start date for Bolden!, and more.

The folks from Eastbound and Down had their wrap party on Saturday. They rented a party boat from Carolina Beach and brought it up to Wrightsville Beach in the Intercoastal Waterway. They parked it on the inlet side of the Blockade Runner. The boat took the entire cast and crew out and they partied hard. Local band, Machine Gun rocked the night away! After the party, everyone rolled over to have some more fun at the Blockade Runner.  Danny McBride was really great and posed for a lot of pics with all the crew. The HBO gang really knew how to take care of the NC film crew that works their tails off because they know Eastbound is never an easy show to produce.

Maides ParkThey also know how to take care of the City of Wilmington. A huge thank you to Eastbound and Down, Danny, Jody Hill, and the whole HBO crew.   In order to shoot scenes at Maides Park, they had to do a lot of landscaping. They spent over $1000 at the baseball field, and it looks amazing!, They re-sodded, added new diamonds and rebuilt the pitchers mound. So, thank you for saving us taxpayers some money and for beautifying our parks! I know the nearby neighborhood is grateful for your efforts.

The rain washed out a few scenes last week, so they won’t head to Charlotte until Wednesday. 1st Unit is shooting at the Cameron Art Museum and the 2nd Unit is back in Castle Hayne.

under-the-dome-cbsIt’s Dome Day once again with LIVE tweets abound with the cast members.  #UnderThe Dome during the show on CBS @ 10pm EST.  A mysterious woman (Natalie Zea) shows up “Under the Dome.”  Hell’s Kitchen in downtown Wilmington is the place to be for the viewing party. It gets underway around 9:30pm.  If you can stay up a little later, Dean Norris is back on Dave Letterman tonight on CBS!

It’s the FINAL DAY TO VOTE FOR SLEEPY HOLLOW!  An advance screening right here in Wilmywood!  And you know that means the other competing cities will be voting like mad, so PLEASE get everyone you know to VOTE!sleepyhollow

ConjuringHappy Friday!  Don’t know about you but I am SO ready for the weekend!  And so are the folks from The Conjuring.   It’s looking like the scary movie will break $100 million by the weekend. Not bad for a $20M budget.  UPM for the flick, Chris Bromley proudly said, “It’s climbing up the ladder in the top 15 horror films.”  Woo Hoo!

Our local boys from Hank and Jed Movie Pictures are attending VidCon in Anaheim. While these YouTube partners got their learn on in California, they ran into Double Rainbow Guy, Paul “Yosemitebear” Vasquez!

Town leaders in Boiling Spring Lakes are examining their filming rules and are considering new ordinance changes.  It would establish guidelines for productions who want to shoot in Boiling Spring Lakes.  If it gets the greenlight, the town would force production companies to pay a $25,000 deposit.  WECT reports, “The town manager says the thought is to draft an ordinance which would make the rules similar to places like Southport and Wilmington.”

THE RUMOR MILL

WECT brought the Angelina Jolie movie, Unbroken up again.  Although, I reported this movie’s interest in Wilmington about two months ago, they have added that Jack O’Connell will play Louis Zamperini, the Olympian turned POW.  My sources tell me that they REALLY like Hawaii, but hopefully they will see that North Carolina has way more to offer and is more cost effective!  Thanks for reporting this Ashlea!

And speaking of maybes remember when I brought up Loomis Fargo months ago! What light can we shed on bank heist movie?  The Jim Carrey flick (that has been in “pre-production”) for months now supposedly here in Wilmywood has attached another actor to its roster.  Looks like Owen Wilson will join in on the bank robbing in this comedy flick.  On a sidenote, Danny McBride and Jody Hill are two of the writers on this movie.  I’m thinkin’ a rollover here!  Just stay here and keep filming! Eastbound Film Crew can roll over as well!  My sources are telling me they have been some verbals hires, but I cannot confirm that.  Yet anyway!  Hopefully that is their plan with Relativity Media!

Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 07/16/2013 – Another star comes to Wilmywood, new ratings for UTD Pilot, Peter Jurasik and more.

Tuesday.  Man, Tuesdays officially make me crazy, now.  Thanks Under the Dome!  I always begin writing this blog at the buttcrack of dawn and then it never seems to be complete because Tuesdays are ratings day.  I sit here all antcy in my pantcy waiting for 11am EST to come!  Argh!  Well, such is life.  But we did get this in at six this morning.  Remember we had the pilot numbers at like 16.7 million.  Well they adjusted up!  AGAIN! Check out what CBS sent us this morning:

“UNDER THE DOME” PREMIERE BUILDS TO 17.76 MILLION VIEWERS WITH LIVE PLUS 7-DAY DVR PLAYBACK
Viewers +31%, Adults 25-54 +36% and Adults 18-49 +39%
With Live Plus 7-Day DVR Playback From Live Plus Same Day Averages.
The series premiere of UNDER THE DOME surged to 17.76 million Viewers with 7-day DVR playback, according to Nielsen live plus 7-day ratings for Monday, June 24 (10-11PM ET/PT).
Live + 7-day DVR playback for the premiere of UNDER THE DOME added:

> +1.3 rating points in Adults 18-49 (4.6 from 3.3, +39%)….
….from live plus same day results.

Another great episode last night the UTD folks we tweeting like mad.  I would like to especially point out that pig can now fly.  Yep, Alex Koch(Junior), who refuses to have a twitter account, is officially a half twit!  Jolene Purdy(Dodee) convinced him to LIVE tweet with her!  That woman has super powers!  I love her so much!!

UTD Script

Oh, and look what I got my hands on!  How would you like to own a piece of Under the Dome?  It could be your coming this September because we are gonna auction this beautiful autographed script during the Sunny 104.5 Caring for Kids at NHRMC Radiothon to benefit the new hospitality house.  More details to come!

WECT leaked the news yesterday.  Mary-Louise Parker will be our next star to head into Wilmywood  as Hallmark gets ready to roll for the TV movie, Christmas in Conway.  Production Begins August 5th.  We have some great local crew working on this one, including Emmy Young who was named as the Extras Casting Director last week.  Oh and FYI, Mary-Louise Parker will be on Kelly & Michael this morning.

peter jurasikOut on DVD today is 42.  You can see our very own amazing, Peter Jurasik.  I asked Peter when the movie was released what it was like to play such a controversial role, a racist in the movie 42.

“There is nothing more difficult in the process of playing a racist than playing anything else that you might have to play but have not experienced firsthand… like playing a homeless person or a less ( or more ) educated person than you — or in more extreme examples, playing a murderer, a pedophile, a abuser ( of drugs, alcohol, women ) or a terrorist. — I have tried to control people in my life, I have humiliated or belittled people in my life ( not proud of it, but true ). The actor takes the truth of his own experiences that intersect or cross with the experiences of the role as written… and if you can ‘ mix ‘ the two careful, you come up with a third entity called the character. A character who looks and sounds like you — whose emotions are fueled by your own experiences but speaks and acts like the person the author created when it was written. — Voila, I’m a racist.”

Very well said, Peter. You are a blessing to everyone in this community!

Looks like Eastbound and Down is taking over the fun parts of Oleander Drive.  The cast and crew heads over to Jellybeans today.  There will be over 100 extras in the skating rink.  With seven of the cast members, it looks to be a really fun day.

The Conjuring was shot here last year and it has finally arrived!  The reviews have been coming in for weeks now and the consensus is: THIS MOVIE IS GREAT AND WILL SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF YOU!  Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.  It’s based on the true story, so that always helps the fear factor.  I can’t wait!  It opens this Friday!  A lot of local actors landed some roles in this flick, so it gives us even more of a reason to see it.

Until then, that’s a wrap!
