THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/30/2014 Director Named for Secrets & Lies, Max Steel, NC Oscar Nom Revoked and More.

secretsLiesABC’s Secrets and Lies has named their director.  It looks like Charles McDougall will be directing the pilot episode.  If you don’t know the name, you’ve definitely has seen his work at some point.  His credits span every network from primetime to premium including The Office, House of Cards, Sex and The City, as well as the pilot episode of the new show Resurrection, which is also from ABC, shooting in Atlanta. And here’s a little fun connection.  Our love Kevin Sizemore from Season One of Under the Dome will be playing Gary Humphrey in at least five episodes.  The Aussie turned US television series begins production in Wilmywood, February 21st.

Max-SteelNow moving on to Mattel, we knew that Max Steel has been pushed back, but now we have a bit of a clearer picture.  It’s looks like production will begins in March.  No casting details have been released as of yet.  I will keep you posted on those details.
oscarrevokedPeople Magazine came out with an article that put the number of NC Film Oscar Noms back to two again.  We have of course Iron Man 3 (VSX) as well as Bad Grandpa(Hair/Makeup) up for the golden statue.  The third Oscar nod went to Bruce Broughton, who was nominated for writing the music for Alone Yet Not Alone that filmed in Transylvania County here in North Carolina.  Bruce had his Best Original Song nomination taken away by the Academy yesterday.  Why? People went on to say:
“Broughton, who is a former member of the Academy’s Board of Governors and a current member of the Music Branch executive committee, emailed members of the branch to make them aware of his submission.”
Apparently that is a HUGE No-No. Do you think he deserved to lose the Oscar Nom?  Post your thoughts below!  READ ARTICLE NOW

North Carolina is ranked third in the US by Good Jobs First for public access to its incentive packages. The article in the Winston-Salem Journal states that “North Carolina received a score of 48, trailing just Illinois at 65 and Michigan at 58.” READ ARTICLE NOW

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/06/2014: Wilmywood’s 2014 Film Slate, McDuffy: The Urban Eagle and more.

Happy Monday Wilmywood!  Hope you had a great weekend!  Waiting…yep that is what is driving me crazy at the moment.  Waiting for more details to come out about Max Steel.  If you remember they did some test screenings on some teens for the lead and the female counter part for Mattel’s live-action version of Max Steel.  We should find out any day now who got the roles.  Also waiting for an update of when and where offices will be opening up.  Waiting, waiting, waiting.  Blah!

MaxSteel Test

Who will get the roles in Max Steel?

We are also waiting on the casting choices for ABC’s Secrets & Lies.  It was already given a green light for 10 episodes.  We hope they shoot more than the pilot here in Wilmywood.

So let’s look at the timeline again. Looking into the new year, it’s looks like Wilmywood will be quite busy, so let’s review about what we’ve been talking about over the past eight weeks.

    • Mattel’s Max Steel will be the first out of the gate for 2014, with offices opening in January, production beginning in February.
    • Not far behind will be the return of CBS’s Under the Dome, opening offices in January (supposedly next week), but production won’t begin until March 4th.
    • ABC’s Secrets & Lies opening offices in February, with production a go in March.
    • Bolden! WHO KNOWS!
    • Next slated to hit the town is up in the air as we have Loomis Fargo, and the return of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow for Season Two in mid to late spring.  No solid dates as of yet.
    • The Legend of McCoy Mountain & The Gold 45 Revolver is also still up in the air for this spring as well, but we don’t know where in NC they will be filming yet, so can’t put this one in the Wilmywood bucket quite yet.

clay-aikenThe Wrap claims the openly gay “American Idol” runner-up, Clay Aiken, may run for Congress in North Carolina. He is consulting with Al Gore’s as well as former North Carolina Gov. Bev Purdue‘s political strategist and could seek the seat now held by Republican Renee Ellmers.

McDuffy_LetterThis Saturday, I’ve got the perfect event to kick off your Saturday night.  How about we hang out with our fellow local filmmakers, watch a comedy short and hang out  at a really cool place that serves amazing organic coffee and treats for an hour or so?   I thought you might like that.  Get ready for McDuffy: The Urban Eagle!  The comedy/action short takes place in “New Orleans.” It’s about Narco Detective Connor McDuffy who prowls the streets for crime and battles the hot new street drug, Bath Salts.  The cast is great.  It stars Matt McHughShane Callahan, Madison Moss, Zeeko Zaki, Patrick Bryant Hayden, Nate Panning, and Jim Mahorney.

Matt McHugh is McDuffy: The Urban Eagle

This is the first public screening for this 18 minute action comedy.  McDuffy: The Urban Eagle will screen at the fabulous Post 1200 followed by Q & A with the filmmakers!  If you haven’t been to Post 1200 before, the screening room is beautiful. Tickets are only $5, so buy them now for you and some friends.  There is limited seating and it will sell out!  The event begins at 7pm. THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/02/2014 Max Steel, ABC Pilot, and More

Hey there!  Happy Thursday and Happy New Year!  Well, the good thing about putting out the “Rumors from the Lot,” is that it sure gets people talkin’!  Got some much better news than on Tuesday!

Max-SteelFirst let’s start with Max Steel.  Now I cannot completely confirm this, but it seems like a pretty strong bet that the Mattel animation turned live-action will be shooting in Connecticut BUT also here in Wilmywood.  In fact after I shared the latest rumors, I was told that while they might have pulled a contract with one group, another local here has been hired for the flick – the two are unrelated, different departments.

tscc3

ABCNow remember on Tuesday I told you that we had some Prod Cos sniffin’ around.  I was told that  an ABC pilot was coming with offices opening in February and production in March. Also, that Barbara D’Alessandro would be heading that up.  I was also told that Sleepy Hollow‘s UPM, David Hartley, is in talks to work on the pilot as well.  (I heard it’s a done deal).  The show is called Secrets & Lies.  A perfect gig for Hartley in between Sleepy Hollow seasons 1 and 2.  It would also be nice to have Barbara back as well.  She’s been off working on Army Wives the past few years. She’s worked on a ton of WIlmywood projects since 1990.  I cannot completely confirm this info, but it seems to be about 80% strong.  I will keep you posted.

Secrets & Lies is an adaptation of the Australian crime mystery drama. It’s described as:

“a nerve racking plunge behind the curtains of suburbia following the story of Ben, an everyday family man who finds the body of a four-year-old boy and quickly becomes the prime murder suspect.”

Last I heard, former Private Practice executive producer Barbie Kligman will serve as writer/executive producer/showrunner.  The show has a 10-episode commitment and is already exploring casting choices. If the rumors are true and they do shoot here, let’s hope they stay in Wilmywood!

The Sleepy folks got to rush home for the holidays.  They will resume working on the EPIC finale of Sleepy Hollow on Friday.  My production sources told me they plan on shooting at least until the 30th.  Over the weekend, I decided to write a ‘lil ode to the cast and crew.  If you haven’t seen it or heard it (yes, I did a live read on the air, couldn’t resist), CHECK IT OUT NOW!

SHBINGE

Now is the time to watch back to back episodes of Sleepy Hollow, this season’s hottest new show! Binge baby Binge!  From the pilot to episode 10, watch them all  on FOX on Demand, FOX.com & FOXNOW before it returns in January with all-new episodes.

Episode 11 titled “Vessel” airs January 13th and the big 2 hour finale (Episode 12/13 combo, titled  “The Indispensable Man,” and “Bad Blood.”) on January 20th.  Don’t forget the finale begins an hour earlier at 8pm EST.

Well, I am so glad one of these is back.  If you remember a few years back we had a 24 (One Take) and 36 hour (Final Cut) film fest here in Wilmywood.  Well the lovely Ashlea Kosikowski over at WECT reports a 54 hour film fest will be in full swing this spring.  Check out her story here or visit the film fest’s FB page.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/11/2013 Max Steel Tests For Lead Roles, Times Like Dying, A Holiday Party and more!

Let the testing begin!  We’ve got a few choice actors and actresses fighting for two top notch roles in the upcoming flick, Max Steel, soon to be shot here in Wilmywood.  Of course, the top spot is Max himself.  And as for the female role, The Tracking Board reports it is currently listed as “undisclosed.”

MaxSteel Test

Anyhow, from left to right, here are the contenders ladies and gentleman!  (“Prisoners”, “Lost”),   (“Necessary Roughness”), and Noah Silver (“The Borgias”) are testing to play Max. For the undisclosed female role both  (“Parenthood”, “Ironside”) and  (“The Nine Lives of Chloe King”, “The Gates”) are in the running.  Who do you think will be heading to Wilmywood?

An Indiegogo campaign had begun for the short film Times Like Dying.  Lemme just say, they had me at Evan Vetter, who is in my personal top 5 favorite filmmakers in Wilmington.  Of course he’s is teaming up with some other very loved filmmakers as well: Shon Blotzer, Anthony Reynolds and Parrish Stikeleather.  You’re money will be very well spent with these guys involved.  So, spot them a 5 or so.  You will be glad you did! Times Like Dying is a 20-minute narrative short film set in the Post-Civil War South involving a man named Percy Dixon and his brothers who are stuck with no good options. They are facing the loss of their family farm and backed into a corner. They decide the only way to save their livelihood is to rob a bank. After the robbery, the Dixon clan become separated, but rendezvous at a small farm where they have a chance encounter with a lawman who has seen better days. Over the course of the night, the truth of their actions is discovered. Loyalties are tested. Hostages are taken. Surviving the night begins to outweigh saving the farm. tscc3 E_EtcThe Eclectic Etc. is having their Grand Opening/Holiday Party this Saturday night from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
