THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 04/18/2014 Mike Vogel Goes Hallmark, Max Steel, The Longest Ride, Shannon Rippy and more.

Hippety-Hoppety damn good mornin’ to ya! Under the Dome is off today as it is Good Friday, and a good Friday it is indeed.  However that doesn’t stop us from seeing stars, one in particular.

InMyDreamsFilmPosterOur homie Domie Mike Vogel comes out of the Dome for the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, In My Dreams this Sunday night on ABC at 9pm EST. (I know the video claims it’s on tonight, but it is on this Sunday) Nick (Mike Vogel) and Natalie (Katharine McPhee) are the perfect couple, only they have never actually met. After tossing coins in Haywood Fountain, the two start dreaming about each other. According to fountain mythology, they have exactly seven days to turn their dreams into a reality. Now doesn’t that sound as sweet as all get out! Don’t miss it!

MAXSTEEL_CASTMax Steel‘s Ben Winchell who plays the lead Max McGrath makes his way into town this weekend and his counterpart Ana Villafane will make it into town early next week!  Yay! Producer Julia Pistor as well as writer Christopher Yost was here as well, they are headed out, but will be coming back shortly as things will start getting super fun soon enough!

Looks like Nicholas Sparks’ The Longest Ride has pushed their start date to mid June. I will keep you posted on any other details that come out.

shannonRippy

It has been 13 days since anyone has seen our film friend 53-year-old Shannon Rippy Vannewkirk.  Investigators with the Wilmington Police Department now believe there may be foul play surrounding Shannon’s disappearance. Apparently new information has come out that are turning the police’s minds towards the negative. They cannot say what that information is, but they are confident that foul play is at hand. At the vigil held last night on the steps of the federal building, the negative news that foul play is in the mix, it hit home for many. Thankfully in addition to the police on the case is the Cue Center for Missing Persons. There is no search team in the country better than the Cue Center. “Someone out there knows something and that’s why we have to spread the word. Someone may have seen something, someone may have heard something,” said Seidman to WECT.

WWAY,  however, has the latest on the vigil from last night. READ NOW

Sarah Jones was killed on February 20, 2014 in Wayne County, GA while filming. Seven crew members were injured when a train collided with the set which called for the crew to be on a bridge. Sarah Jones: The investigation heats up

SarahSlate2

The investigation is heating up into the death of 27 year old camera assistant Sarah Jones while on the set of Midnight Rider back in February.  The blame game is being push around from the director’s “whatever it takes” attitude to the city, citing pressure for more films to come to the quaint town.   Deadline reports that Savannah has been “hungry to grow into a contender” vying the film industries in Atlanta and Wilmington since they put into play their new and improved film incentives a few years back.

It’s starting to get ugly, folks.  Deadline’s got the story.  READ NOW

cropped-utdset062013_0012.jpgHUMP DAAAYYY!  Let’s do this! Under the Dome returns to EUE/Screen Gems wrapping up the premiere episode.  I think they are on more sound stages this season.  That means more cool locations we will never see until the show. Argh! Later this week they will head to some of their favorite spots in Currie and Burgaw.

EP Jack Bender

Jack Bender directed the first episode for season two.  Not only is he a talented director, but a talented artist as well.   The Wilma W. Daniels Gallery (200 Hanover St.) will be showcasing his work beginning this Saturday.  The artwork will be on display from the 15th through the 29th of this month.  Three of his pieces will be from Season One  of Under the Dome.  Think Pink Stars!  We will also get a sneak peek at some of the beautiful pieces for the upcoming season. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 12pm-5pm.  However, a special night is reserved for you to mingle with the artist that is Jack Bender on Saturday, March 22nd from 6pm-9pm.

melissaMelissa McCarthy is on one hell of a subliminal marketing campaign connecting the views of Mike & Molly with her upcoming feature film Tammy, shot of course right here in Wilmywood.  If you remember she had Susan Sarandon on a couple of episodes on her CBS sitcom.  Next up?  Kathy Bates.  How many other cast members will guest star as we lead up to the Tammy release on July 2nd?

And speaking of Tammy, a little FYI, Allison Janney will be on Queen Latifah today!

Some UNCW students are shooting a short documentary on the film incentives.  They have been interviewing people like Aaron Syrett from the NC FIlm Office, Wilmington Film Commission’s Johnny Griffin and Screen Gems’ Bill Vassar.

Shaun_KeepItRollingAs stated on their Facebook page, “Keep It Rolling” is a short documentary film about the North Carolina Film Tax Incentive and it’s significance to a healthy economy in North Carolina. Directing is Robert Conley. Sarah Flores is producing.  They are concerned about their future as well as everyone else’s. THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 02/27/2014 Two Features Coming to NC, A Focus on Local Hires, Conjuring Sequel, Sarah Jones’ Family

ncfilmNorth Carolina has two more feature films coming to shoot this spring and summer. And each are both filming in more than one state.

Overflow Entertainment is taking The Sin Seer to two states.  North Carolina and Louisiana. The story involves Rose Ricard who has been given a very special gift by God — the ability to see the sin a person carries in their soul. While she uses her gift to, hopefully, rights the wrongs in society, she also knows the gift comes with a price tag.

Is it just me or does John Noble needs to be a consultant on this flick? (Sleepy Hollow reference). Producing is Angela White.  Paul Hannah is the writer/director.   Production is currently scheduled to begin May 5.

Pathways Productions is bringing us The Show.   Looks like they will also be splitting the love between NC and Atlanta, GA.  As it stands, they plan to shoot this summer.  The Show is about Percy King, a very talented musician who aspires to be a great band director, but of course a girl gets in the mix, and in the way messing with his emotions and leaves him questioning his morals.  The production company deems it a story about “man’s constant strive for perfection and his constant inability to achieve it and sheds light on a community of often misunderstood strangers that act as a family, even in the darkest of times, and shows you why no matter what, the show, much like life must always go on.” Justin Jacobs is writing.  JR Butler will direct.

No word yet if they will be filming in Wilmington or in other parts of North Carolina.  I will keep you posted.

Red27Stunt Coordinator Peter King and the Red 27 crew had their hands full Monday as over 50 stunt performers filled Stage 3 at EUE/Screen Gems Studios, for Under The Dome Season Two stunt auditions.  Now, normally you don’t see too many open auditions when it comes to stunts, around these parts anyway, but there was a damn good reason. 1) Meet new talent.  2) Local hires.  As we gear up for multiple shows filming simultaneously, Peter wanted to reach out to the Wilmington area and really see who is out there.  Monday’s 2-hour action packed audition gave Peter and his team a chance to meet performers face to face and get a taste of what they’ve got.  It’s really important to Peter to hire local first, then if there is a need that cannot be filled to look regionally.  And after reviewing the tapes yesterday, they think they found some great new folks to add to their list of local talent.  On a personal note: THANK YOU for hiring local!

Update: Tragedy in Georgia on Set of Midnight Rider

Jesup, GA – An update on the tragedy that took place yesterday just southwest of Savannah, GA where a 20 member film crew was shooting on the railroad tracks for the upcoming Allman Brothers biopic, Midnight Rider.  One female camera assistant has been killed, seven other crew members injured.  They were all employed by Meddin Studios out of Savannah.

A press conference was held last week and the camera assistant was named.

The camera assistant was 27 year old, Sarah Jones, who was a native of South Carolina and was living in Atlanta.  Already 100s of messages have reached her facebook page.  Messages that tell those that didn’t know her just how much she was loved.

sarahjones2

The IATSE Local 600, which Sarah was apart of,  wrote, “Local 600 is shocked and saddened by the loss of Atlanta area Camera Assistant, Sarah Elizabeth Jones. Sarah was an active and proud member of Local 600 and a well respected Camera Assistant, much loved by those who worked with her. Our hearts and thoughts go out to her family and friends in this time of terrible tragedy. She will be deeply missed.”

One of the seven crew members that was injured from debris was Hair Stylist, Joyce Gilliard (Sleepy Hollow, The Conjuring, Army Wives)She was airlifted to the hospital.  We did get word that she will be okay, but it looks like she will need surgery on her arm.

UPDATE: There’s been more light shed on the accident in Jesup, GA during the test shoots for the Greg Allman biopic, Midnight Rider.  Here’s a few updates:
SarahSlateMeanwhile,  the love continues to pour for Sarah Jones, who died during the accident.  A Slates for Sarah Facebook was created and if you haven’t seen it yet, get ready to be moved.  God, I love this industry.  So beautiful and creative.  Yesterday, this page stood at 421 likes when I saw it.  Now it’s over 7500 and growing quickly.  No one will brush over Sarah’s death.  She matters.

Sarah Elizabeth Jones family is requesting that donations be made to:
BC Education Foundation Sarah Jones Scholarship Fund
c/o Brookland-Cayce High School
1300 State Street
Cayce, SC 29033

Taking it one step further, people are reaching out to the Academy to request Sarah’s memory be a part of the ceremony.
Oscars for Sarah
This was a beautiful tribute.  Please share it with everyone!
A lot of people are also asking how Joyce Gilliard is doing.  She is the fabulous hair stylist that has worked here in Wilmington often (Sleepy Hollow, The Conjuring).  She was up for tweeting this morning.  She let everyone know how sad she is and just how devasting it was to go through it all.  She also cleared up a few things.
“I was hit by the train and not the debris. The worst day in my life. I will need counseling. My coworker died beside me.”
She said that she has metal and pins holding her arm together.  Lots of love and prayers to Joyce.  She is being released from the hospital today.

Again, this is a devastating tragedy and our thoughts, love and prayers go out to all those involved in this accident and to their friends and family as well.
