THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/30/2013 Under the Dome, Sleepy Hollow, Wilmywood Flicks Most Lucrative 2013

Good Morning and Happy Monday to ya!  A slew of praise happening as we finish out the year.  So, let’s continue that trend!  A lot of people were talking about this over the weekend. It wasn’t the top grossing movies, but the most successful ones that got the most bang for their buck and North Carolina has 4 on the list, three of which were shot right here in Wilmywood.  Here are the top 9 most lucrative movies of 2013, according to The Wrap: TheWrap - SuccessSo congrats to the cast and crew of: The Conjuring, Bad Grandpa, We’re the Millers and IM3!  Don’t know what ROI means?  It’s Return Of Investment.  The Wrap explains it in simple terms:

To calculate ROI for a movie, you take how much it grossed, subtract how much it cost and then divide that figure by how much it cost. For example, “Insidious: Chapter 2″ cost $5 million to make. It grossed $160.4 million. So here’s how we did it: $160.4M- $5M = $155.4M. $155.4M/$5M = 31.1.

CES2014Our beloved CBS series Under the Dome is among the honorees at Variety’s upcoming Breakthrough of the Year Awards, which will be held Thursday January 9th in Las Vegas at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).  Dean Norris will be on hand to accept the award. I know stories similar to this one have already come out, but when our shows get kudos, you deserve to know. The Global Dispatch reports that due to Amazon’s $700,000 per episode buy,  it made the show profitable before it even aired. (The Amazon licensing deal partnership along with international rights made “Under the Dome” an insanely profitable enterprise, again, before it even aired. ) Because of these factors, the UTD team had less stress with how they crafted the show. Rachelle LeFevre said it best:

“There wasn’t as much pressure,” The CBS execs “were able to make big, ballsy decisions as a result, and success is what comes from that.”

Of course it didn’t hurt that the show was an instant hit.  It was the most watched summer series in more than twenty years.  Nielsen tallied up the live viewing as well as the DVR numbers and estimated that the show averaged 15+million viewers.  Amazon picked up season two, 9 months before it will air, 6 months before filming begins on season two.  That Amazon will continue with the same kind of licensing deal, exclusive domain for the online streaming of the episodes four days after they air.   READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE NOW!

SHWitchesNow onto our other successful television show that has made its home here in Wilmywood. Laurel Brown (@DocBrown_TVdid a great piece as part of Zap2It‘s Year in Review.  It was definitely the Year of the Witch. Laurel highlights some of the best of the best from this years television shows and suggests who could beat up who.  She leaves us with the question: “Will the “Sleepy Hollow” witches dominate 2014?” Awesome Laurel!  It’s a fun piece.  READ IT NOW.

And speaking of some great cast, Lyndie Greenwood says good-bye to Wilmywood:

Lyndie_GoodBye

Nicole Beharie also said good-bye over the weekend as well.  It looks like today just might be the last day of filming the EPIC season finale! Well, that’s the plan anyway! And sorry, I cannot reveal who is left filming.  Wouldn’t wanna spoil the finale for ya!  They never shoot in sequential order anyway, but I’d rather not accidentally give anything away.  We will just have to wait until January 20th to see who is left standing!1016242_434988879942442_1440392906_n

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/17/2013 – NC Film Critic’s Choice Nominees, Sleepy Hollow Misnomer, PCA’s and more.

sleepy-hollow1

Goooood Mornin’ Wilmywood!  Let’s kick off the blog this morning with a Sleepy Hollow concern from one of the entertainment bloggers out there in the world.  HW Hill was a little confused about Sleepy Hollow missing an episode, saying, “I guess it didn’t get a full episode order, or it was just meant to be that short.”

No worries, HWHills!  I got your back.  My sources over at Fox set the record straight.

“Fox decided to air them differently.  The Season One order is 13.  It’s always been 13 and they are shooting 13.  We just decided to combine episode 12 and 13 into a 2-hour finale.  In fact, the finale is gonna be epic.  It’s gonna be huge.”

Episode 11 will air January 13th, 2014, 9pm EST and the big finale (Episode 12/13 combo) will air Monday, January 20th beginning at 8pm EST on Fox!

RATINGS: Sleepy Hollow and Under the Dome!!

Sleepy Hollow DECAPITATES the competition!

sleepy

Don’t lose your head, but Sleepy Hollow was the No. 1 entertainment show on Monday in its time slot!!

Congrats to the cast and NC Film crew of BOTH Under the Dome and Sleepy Hollow!

SLEEPY HOLLOW went up to 3.5 rtg in Adults 18-49 (vs. 3.4/9 this morning) with 10.1 Mil Total Viewers (vs. 10.0 Mil this morning)  According to EW, That’s 127 percent better than last fall’s premiere for The Mob Doctor.  And once we get the seven days of DVR playback, the numbers are predicted to skyrocket!   Joe Adalian of vulture.com mentioned, “Fox shows *rarely* exceed 10M viewers. Or 8M.”  Very impressive folks!  He also said via twitter, “SLEEPY HOLLOW also debuted ahead of January’s THE FOLLOWING, which had a 3.1 A18-49 in fast nationals/3.2 in finals.”

Sara Bibel  (TVbythenumbers.com) said Sleepy Hollow was “the highest broadcast drama premiere since the debut of Revolution and FOX’s best drama premiere in six years, since the short-lived K-ville in 2007.”

Now on to our other fabulous show which ended with a solid BANG!  The season finale of Under the Dome garnered a big 2.8 adults 18-49 rating.  It captured 11.8 million viewers, its highest demo score since July 29!  Ratings were up 33 percent from last week’s 2.1.  That is one strong finish!

Under the Dome Interview: Mackenzie Lintz on Homelife, Colin Ford, and the Finale of UTD

UTDPremiere062013_0080

If you live in Wilmington and are anything like me, you are totally geeking out about Monday night.  We get our first taste (if you didn’t go to the early screening or couldn’t get in) of Sleepy Hollow and our life Under the Dome comes to an end.  Well, until next year anyway.  Over the past 8 months we’ve had some wonderful talent in our own backyard.  They became our neighbors and our friends.  They are kind, approachable and grateful for the opportunity to work on the #1 show, Under the Dome.  And as we eagerly gear up for Monday, I decided to get in touch with some of our favorite cast members.

Mackenzie Lintz who plays Norrie on Under the Dome took a few minutes to chat about homelife, Colin Ford and of course life under the dome.

SHEILA: Lady! We miss you!  I hope you had a great summer.  Now that Under the Dome has wrapped season one, looks like you have some normalcy back in your life again.  How has your transition been from set tutor back to normal high school life?  Do some teens as school treat you differently because you are on TV?

MACKENZIE: I absolutely LOVE being back in school. I’m in a really small private school so my class is like my family. They don’t treat me any different because they just see me as Kenzie just like they did before Under the Dome. Even though a lot of them watch the show! 🙂

SHEILA: Shane Bates has a great question for you.  This week, we discovered that you are not the only actress in the Lintz clan.  What’s it like living in a family full of actors?

MACKENZIE: Shane, I absolutely love having a family of actors. It’s so awesome because all of us are in different age groups so we don’t really have to compete so it’s easy to cheer each other on and be happy and excited for each other. My brother is actually working in Wilmington (Where UTD is shot) for a future episode of Sleepy Hollow.

SHEILA: Now you know I gotta ask this question ’cause the ladies wanna know!  What’s it like to work with Colin Ford?  Are you two close in real life?  Still stay in touch during the hiatus?

MACKENZIE: Hahaha!! Colin and I have so much fun. It’s actually his 17th birthday today!!  {yesterday} We are constantly laughing on set and doin’ crazy stuff. He’s such a talented actor and it’s so easy to play Norrie when he’s playing Joe.

SHEILA: My friends from Under the Dome Radio Podcast ask, “What can you tell us about Norrie’s dad and will we ever get to see more of that relationship?

MACKENZIE: Papa Norrie won’t be back in Season One, but Season Two will definitely bring a lot of excitement, who knows who will show up!! 🙂

SHEILA: What was the most exciting part about shooting the finale for you?

MACKENZIE: Well, for one thing, we found out while shooting the finale that we were officially picked up for a season 2!! That made goodbyes a lot less sad because we knew it wasn’t goodbye forever.

SHEILA:  Okay, final question.  The biggun’!  Any hints about what we can expect this Monday?

MACKENZIE: All I can tell you about the finale is that it’s one of our MOST exciting episodes, you will find out more about the dome, who the monarch is, and maybe see a familiar face or two. It’s gonna be EPIC!

Just like this interview!  Thanks Mackenzie!  We can’t wait until UTD returns to Wilmington in February!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 09/12/2013

In an interview with TVLine, Dean Norris gave us a little insight about this Monday night on Under The Dome.

“You’re going to learn a lot about the Dome,” Norris explained. “It’s all very satisfying and it will make you go, ‘Oh, wow. OK, how are they going to play that out in Season 2?’ It sets up for a great second season.”

And don’t think the season’s ending is even close to the book.  Here’s a taste of what’s coming this Monday night.

If you missed Episode 12 last Monday or only caught 30 minutes of it on your DVR (due to the US Open), CBS is running Episode 12 again this Saturday night ay 9pm EST.

UTDPremiere062013_0080We’ve got an interview lined up today with the most adorable Mackenzie Lintz who plays Joe’s little “firecracker” friend Norrie on Under the Dome.  Send me your questions and I will pick from a few and ask her!

And of course I can’t forget to say:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY COLIN FORD!  He turns 17 today!

Our buddy Tommy Danger needs as many volunteers as possible to 200873_10200195448349369_1964083808_ocome to Wrightsville Beach by the Johnny Mercer Pier to be a part of the new video they are working on for the More Than Just Me Foundation. Please tell your friends. We need all ages, color, shapes, and sizes of people. Friday, September 20th from 6pm-7:30.  Click on the FB invite if you will be attending!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 09/11/2013 – Sleepy Hollow, Wilmington Film Commission, One Tree Hill item for sale and more

UTDSet062013_0306With the US Open eating up half of Under The Dome‘s regular time slot, CBS will preempt Crimetime for an encore airing of episode 12, “Exigent Circumstances” on Saturday night at 9pm.  Also, the final broadcast primetime ratings gave Under The Dome 1st place regardless of their numbers dipping to 9.72 million viewers.  But, if you factor in cable channels however, football was the winner.

sleepyNow, I’ve been waiting for this scene to happen for a week now!  Why?  Because of its killer location for Sleepy Hollow!  They will be wetting down the streets this evening  where they will be filming at the Kenan Memorial Fountain at 5th and Market.  Lots to see.

MattLintz

In the scene, a young boy wanders into town, EMT tries to help him and one of our heroes try to speak to him.   And guess who plays the little boy in Sleepy Hollow today!  Mackenzie Lintz (Under the Dome, Norrie)’s little bro Matt Lintz!!  Wilmywood just loves the Lintz family!  Yay!!!!  Way to go Matt! There will be 100 crew members and 30 extras hanging out with four of the cast members today.  Sleepy Hollow premieres this Monday!

WFCAnd speaking of great locations, do you own one?  The Wilmington Regional Film Commission wants your house…or barn…or store!  Well, they want to add it to their locations database.  As stated in their press release that came out yesterday:

In order to add to their existing database of 3,300 locations, the Wilmington Regional Film Commission will be adding a Location Scout to their team this fall. The Scout will be available to photograph local properties, in order to provide a broad idea of potential shooting locations to productions considering filming in the area.

“We are encouraging anyone with an interesting property – anything from a warehouse or a barn to a restaurant, shop, house or farm – to contact us.  If it’s appropriate we will send our Scout to take some photographs,” said Griffin.  “We’ll add it to our database, and if a production likes what they see, they will contact the owner directly.”

The Film Commission can be contacted at 910.343.3456 or commish@wilmingtonfilm.com.

The auction benefiting the Sunny 104.5 Caring for Kids at NHRMC should begin this afternoon.  As soon as everything is up, I will post it on a separate blog today!  Awesome items!

ravensAttention One Tree Hill fans, my friend Laura is selling the Ravens basketball gym doors. Each door is 37″x84″.  $400 OBO.  Call: 910-805-4546. So awesome!!!

And on a final note, because it is 9/11 – After fund raising and putting in a ton of work, the team from the Empie Park Fire Station has its memorial to honor fallen Wilmington firefighters as well as the memories of New York firefighters who died in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11th 12 years ago.   A dedication ceremony will happen tonight at 6pm, but everyone is encouraged to stop by anytime. The at the fire station is located at Independence Boulevard and Park Avenue.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning (unless something breaks) and every weekday morning at 7:30am & 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .
