WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 09/16/2013 Thom Tillis, NC Film Emmy Winners, tonight’s BIG night and more.

ThomTillisNorth Carolina State Rep Thom Tillis spoke at a picnic for Republicans over the weekend and weighed in on the film incentives. WECT has him quoted saying:

“I believe the film industry is critical to Wilmington, it’s critical in Charlotte, it’s growing in Ashville.  We’ve got to figure out a way to make sure that North Carolina’s competitive.  I think there’s a way to continue to move forward with tax reform but make absolutely certain that North Carolina is the go-to place for the film industry for productions and all the other good jobs that come with it,”

First, for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role – Give it up for Banshee!  2013: Armen V. Kevorkian, Visual Effects Supervisor; Mark E. Skowronski, VFX Producer; Jane Sharvina, 2D Supervisor; Rick Ramirez, 3D Artist; Jeremy Jozwik, 3D Artist; Mike Oakley, 3D Artist; Nick Sinnott, VFX Artist; Gevork Babityan, Compositing Artist; Andranik Taranyan, Compositing Artist.

Second how about some mad kudos to our man Jeff Wolfe for Outstanding Stunt Coordination For A Drama Series, Miniseries Or Movie – Our Stunt Coordinator killed it for “Revolution!”

Episode 3 of NBC‘s powerless show was remembered by these crazy two over the weekend.  I have to say I laughed when I saw these shots on Facebook this weekend.  We lost a location as Sticky Fingers is no more and apparently members of the Militia had to express there feelings about it!

The ‘rebel hideout’ where the Monroe Militia first captured Miles Matheson has been reduced to rubble…

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 09/04/2013

Under the Dome was not only the winner in its time slot but easily took the whole night with 10.71 million viewers.  TV By The Numbers reports:

On CBS, with the Time Warner carriage dispute finally resolved, Under the Dome earned a 2.6, up a tenth from last week’s 2.5 adults 18-49 rating. It’s impossible to say whether the restoration of CBS to TWC customers in 3 markets was responsible for the rise.

Encore Magazine wrote an article yesterday that is a fantastic read about the film incentives and those affected by it. Check it out.

And oooh my goodness, look at what’s arrived!!!! The trailer is here!  Eastbound and Down Season 4!

IMAG0404I had the honor of hanging out on Stage 10, the dream stage of Sleepy Hollow for a bit as our London correspondent, Lauren Watt, is in town.  Let’s just say I was geeking out probably more than she and her mate was!  Major kudos to the crew the production grabbed.  Solid.  If you know me by now, you know there was a major hug fest going on yesterday!    I LOVE OUR NC CREW SO MUCH!  Mad talent! Stage 10 by far is the most beautiful multi-set I have ever seen.  And of course they have also taken over other sound stages as well as the back lot!  Let’s hope Fox is here to stay for a long time.  If the pilot is any indication of how good the show will be, we will have ourselves a long time to love them.  The series premieres September 16th on Fox!

Sleepy Hollow has two units running today. They will be back on stage 10 today and the 2nd unit will be doing some driving scenes on MLK Parkway (23rd St. ramp to N. Kerr intersection).

The Dempsey Sisters wrapped yesterday in Brunswick Forest.

NBC’s Revolution Season One is now out on DVD and Blue Ray as well as digital download!  Get yourself a piece of Wilmington Film History 🙂

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 06/24/2013 It’s Dome Day!

IT’S HERE!  The television event we have all been waiting for!!  Under The Dome premieres on CBS at 10pm TONIGHT!  If you go to bed early, set your DVRs!!  I did get a chance to see the pilot Thursday night but you can bet your sweet A- I am watching it again!  FYI – if you got kids 14 and younger, you might have to shut their eyes in the first 5 min.  Just sayin’!

Today is also OFFICIALLY by proclamation from our Mayor Billy Saffo, DOME DAY! He made the declaration last Thursday at the red carpet premiere.  So, Happy Dome Day everyone!

I had a VERY busy weekend putting together all those fabulous Dome Day interviews!  We have more than a dozen of them, so check them out.  My favorites has to be Brian K Vaughan and Jack Bender‘s because they give real testimonials of just how great our crew base is, why the tax incentives need to stay and the locations are perfect for their needs. Oh, and did I mention the Wilmywood blog is getting quite popular, even with the writers and producers 🙂  Check it out:

SEE ALL THE INTERVIEWS NOW!  The Under the Dome folks will be shooting in Burgaw on Right St and Fremont St. You will see the beautiful boys today:  Mike Vogel, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford and Dean Norris.

There is a HUGE viewing party at Hell’s Kitchen (118 Princess St , Downtown Wilmington) tonight and every Monday night at 10pm.

Congrats to our Militia Man, Giancarlo Esposito.  The brilliant actor who plays Major Tom Neville on NBC’s Revolution is getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Yay!  He of course is also known for his role as Gus on  series Breaking Bad.

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 06/03/2013 – What the stars were doing in Wilmywood over the weekend.

Wilmywood Film Peep of the Day

Channing Duke, Camera PA

Channing Duke, Camera PA

tammy_wilmywoodHappy Monday to you!  Looks like everyone is out of town today.  Tammy will be back at The Grille on Main St. in Shallotte.  We will see Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Mark Duplass, Gary Cole and a nice surprise as our own. Michelle Li from WECT/WSFX was typecasted and will have a nice lil part in the flick as a news reporter.  There should be some fun action in this scene today!  They still have over 15 days of shooting left, so here is a casting reminder from Extras Casting: “If you have ALREADY SUBMITTED and have not heard from us AT ALL yet, please resubmit your info/photo to: tammyextras@gmail.com with the subject title, “RE-SUBMISSION” – Thank you.” Over the weekend, Mark Duplass went to the beach, then tore it up on the dance floor! Haha!  Awesome!

DJRuckusThe folks Under the Dome also had a good time this weekend in Wilmywood. Rachelle Lefevre went shopping on Castle street in the Antique District.  Natalie Martinez was hanging out near Johnny’s Mercer’s Pier in Wrightsville Beach on Saturday.  Check out what she had to say about being Under the Dome!  On Sunday, Natalie was a very happy lady indeed when (major cutie-pie) DJ Ruckus came in for a visit.  Dean Norris recommended this article from TV Blends.  The big premiere is just 3 Mondays away!  They are filming again in Currie, NC today.

As we get closer to the start of Eastbound and Down (June 10th-ish) there are star sightings all over the place, even Danny Doppelgangers!  A friend of mine got a shot of this guy at the pool in the Porter’s Neck area where they just happened to be scouting at nearby residential locations for Season 4!  When she approached the man, and mentioned the striking likeness, he laughed and said, “Yeah, I get that a lot.”  Hey, the ladies LOVE the mullet!  It could work for him!

The star of NBC’s Surface, shot here in Wilmywood a few years back,  Lake Bell got hitched Saturday to Scott Campbell in New Orleans.  The show only lasted one season, but I have to say, I really enjoyed them being here.

A casting call is out for a new reality show, Dream Date.

Have you yet to find the love of your life? Do you feel like you’ve never been out of your county let alone on a plane to somewhere? Would you like to find your “Dream Date”?

We are casting a network show designed to pair you with your soul mate. This is “The Bachelorette” on steroids!!

If you or someone you know is interested, age 21 – 32, please email your full name, age, height, weight, contact phone and two photos. (one close up and a full body.)  Castingdreamdate@gmail.com

And finally, tonight is our last glimpse of Wilmington as the season finale of Revolution airs tonight at 10pm on NBC.  So, the most important question is:  Where’s the party at??  REVOLUTION SEASON FINALE PARTY! Tonight at The Cellar, downtown. Food, special Militia drinks, and more! Get there by 9pm for the fun!

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every weekday morning at 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Or just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 05/30/2013 – Homicide Investigation points finger at Dan Aykroyd.

Wilmywood Film Peep of the Day

ArtHoover

Art Hoover – Art’s Motion Picture Catering

A Homicide Investigation points a finger at Dan Aykroyd. A landfill worker uncovered film of Dan Aykroyd standing over a bloody corpse.  The man in Canada turned it in to police, thinking he stumbled upon murder evidence caught on film.  Turns out it was a scene was from the 1990 flick, “Loose Cannons.”  Aykroyd was last seen Wednesday at the Blue Post signing his Crystal Head Vodka.  His cast members of Tammy are getting a late start shooting into the very late hours in Shallotte at “The Grille” on Main St. today.

Back in 1989, Wilmywood was the home for the movie, Dream a Little Dream, starring the “Coreys.”  Corey Feldman had a say about wardrobe and used his own, very expensive black jacket.  Well, that jacket was stolen.  Now over 20 years later, it was finally recovered at a Boston Flea Market and was returned to Corey.  Feldman said  it’s worth $100,000.  Some of the locations used in Dream a Little Dream include: New Hanover High, Thalian Hall, the old Roy’s Riverboat Landing, the house at 1705 Princess St.

We have yet another reason to be grateful for NBC’s Revolution shooting its first season in Wilmywood.  The series brought in over $50 million to the state. The Wilmington Regional Film Commission says an  estimated $56 million was spent – wages earned/taxed in NC along with goods and services bought and taxed.  Don’t forget the season finale is Monday at 10:00pm EST.

Just a few more tidbits:

Under the Dome is getting a late morning start in Currie NC.   Our own sports star, baseball player Trot Nixon will be inducted into Wilmington Walk of Fame today.

Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 05/13/2013 – VIP Afterglow, Bob Guiney, Scott Grimes,Tammy, and more

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD

LISTEN TO PODCAST

What a mixed weekend!  Great times were had during the Port City Pop Con.  A HUGE thank you to Mike Roberts for putting on the event with stars everywhere! They were so kind and just about all of them said the same about Wilmington.  “Everyone is so nice here”!  Yeah, we know, that’s one of the reasons why we choose to live here! The Con included VIP meet n greets and a VIP Afterglow at the Calico Room downtown.

GuineyandGrimesThe highlight of the VIP party had to be Bob Guiney and Scott GrimesGuiney and Grimes put on an amazing duo acoustic performance.  We had Dee Wallace  and Ernie Hudson in the front of the crowd completely enjoying the performance.  FYI – they are the sweetest people in the world!  I really hope I get to stay in touch with those folks. Make sure you check out today’s podcast, I have a clip from Saturday night at the Calico Room on Front Street.  They also performed their original, “I’m Goin Home”  It’s a great song and is available for FREE on Sound Cloud!

The news of NBC’s Revolution moving to Austin, TX got some people down this weekend, and some outraged, blaming it on the politicians.  While I can appreciate the spirit and love for NC Film, I can tell you, they didn’t move for that reason.  The storyline is moving and with that so do the locations.  I will definitely miss the cast, but I believe it is not necessarily a bad thing.  This gives room for productions that were pushed back to come to ILM sooner as crew members become available to them.  All my NC Film industry peeps, I would love to hear your thoughts about my take on it.  Lemme know what you think by commenting below!

Now moving on to the productions that are still here.  The Perfect Summer welcomes American Idol’s Jason Castro to his first day on set!  They will be at Aussie Island Surf Shop in Wrightsville Beach.  Jason plays a laid back surf shop owner.

Under the Dome is still in Burgaw and Tammy is back on Nun St. again today!  Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon and Toni Collette will be on set.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Until then, that’s a wrap!
