THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/13/2014 Is NC Senate Hopeful Pro Film? Sleepy Hollow, EP Neal Baer’s NC Documentary, & more!

Hey there! Happy Monday! Unfortunately, I will not be on Sunny 104.5 this morning.  I have some kind of ear and throat virus thingy, so I don’t want to infect my fellow co-workers.  I will return on Tuesday.  Regardless of being all sicky, I still had a great weekend and I am ready to to have one hell of a kick ass week. How ’bout you?

Now FINALLY tonight is the night!  Let’s review what’s in store for us on Sleepy Hollow at 9pm EST on FOX.

“Sleepy Hollow” Episode 1.11 – “Vessel”
When Capt. Iriving’s daughter, Macy, becomes the target of evil forces, he makes a desperate plea to Crane and Mills for help and seeks answers that lie within Washington’s Bible. Meanwhile, a frightening chapter of Jenny’s past is revealed.

With all that being said, I wanted scoop!  So I reached out to our buddy Nick Gonzalez, who plays Detective Luke Morales on the show, and asked him to dish!  Here’s what he said about tonight’s episode:

Now, on to politics!  Yuck!  I know, but stay with me, you need to hear this!  So, when I heard the news on Friday about State Sen. Thom Goolsby (R- New Hanover County) saying good-bye to the NC senate, it really caught my attention.  You see, normally I don’t pay attention to anything political, after all I HATE POLITICS!  However, you know why my ears perked up, don’t you?  My mind started reeling. Who will replace him?  Will this person be 100% for NC Film?  While my brain was pondering those questions, the very next day I saw that Elizabeth Redenbaugh (D) put her name in the hat for the 9th District seat in the North Carolina State Senate.  Now, while I have known her for years, I just wanted to make sure exactly where she stood when it came to the film industry and our incentives.

So, I caught up with Elizabeth and straight out asked her, “Are you 100% pro NC film incentives? I gotta know!”  And here is what she said:

“Yes ma’am, I am! We have to get rid of the sunset provision. I attended the “State of the Slate” during the Cucalorus Film Festival. It was a discussion about film incentives. I understand that the sunset provision is killing future projects here since they spend approximately one and a half years in pre-production. Why would they come here when the incentives could be gone when they actually begin shooting? We have quite a few friends who work in various capacities in the film industry, so I “get it.” Two of our children were extras on the set of Tammy last year. I was blown away by the wide variety of businesses who benefited economically from the filming: tent rental, lighting, catering, traffic control, transportation…”

Elizabeth was given the national John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. Elizabeth received this award specifically for her work in speaking out against the socioeconomic and racial segregation in New Hanover County’s schools.  Whoever you vote for in the next election, Wilmywood, choose wisely!  Also, let me remind everyone from every county across North Carolina, as new people come to light and decide to run for government office, I plead you to ask that very question.  And don’t stop asking until you get a SOLID answer!

UTDSet062013_0102As Under the Dome opens offices this week, I would like to highlight a film, that unless you got a ticket to see it during Cucalorus 19, you missed it. Our executive producer and showrunner of Under the Dome, Neal Baer, teamed up with one of his Facebook friends, Emily Pilloton, who runs a non-profit devoted to helping impoverished communities address their problems.  After speaking with her, he was inspired to create the 85 minute documentary, If You Build It.  According to the filmmakers, this documentary follows designers Emily Pilloton and Matthew Miller to one of the poorest counties in our state, Bertie County.

They work with local high school students to help transform both their community and their lives. Living on credit and grant money and fighting a change-resistant school board, Pilloton and Miller lead their students through a year-long, full-scale design and build project that does much more than just teach basic construction skills: it shows ten teenagers the power of design-thinking to re-invent not just their town but their own sense of what’s possible. Directed by Patrick Creadon and produced by Christine O’Malley and Neal Baer, IF YOU BUILD IT offers a hopeful vision for a new kind of classroom in which students learn the tools to design their own futures., Baer takes a look at an inspiring community development project in rural North Carolina’s poorest county that spotlights the difficult socio-economic issues at the center of many American’s lives.

BertieCounty

“I think it’s a template for what education can become in this country,” Baer says. “We, I think, spend too much time preparing kids for tests so that they can then take more tests and more tests. And the creativity, the problem-solving elements that are so critical and crucial for our society to face the major issues we’re facing can often get lost. ”  READ ARTICLE FROM NEWSMAXTV NOW

The film continues to screen throughout the country, but I would love to have a public screening of this film here in Wilmywood.  If we get at least 65 people interested in seeing the screening, I can make it happen so PLEASE email: sheila_brothers@yahoo.com and tell me if this would interest you.  SUBJECT LINE: If You Build it.  If you have already seen it, please post your thoughts about it below in the comments section!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 10/16/2013 Seinfeld writer brings Pilot to Wilmywood, Under the Dome, The Squeeze and More

chrismcdonaldBREAKING: According to WWAY, Christopher McDonald who is starring in The Squeeze was arrested for drunk driving this morning in downtown Wilmington.  Well, that gives a whole new meaning to Shooter McGavin, doesn’t it?  (Sorry bad joke that had to be said).  Lesson learned though to all cast and crew who come to Wilmington to film.  Wilmington takes drinking and driving very serious in this town.  Always hire a driver!  READ STORY NOW Production begins Friday for The Squeeze at the 6th St. Bridge!

Another TV Pilot is underway in Wilmywood. Kaufmann Media Group brings Do Not Resuscitate to their Wilmington facility Post 1200 across from EUE/Screen Gems. The show has been co-created with a veteran Seinfeld writer and are in search of local talent. They have already been through their first round of auditions, but I don’t think they are over.  I will keep you posted on that front. The Emmy nominated principals of KMG have a 20 year history in Hollywood. Their Wilmington location (Post 1200), open just over a year, has touched almost every local production since expanding to North Carolina. KMG continues to direct Los Angeles business toward the NC market in support of the local film community.

DontknowYetWilmington shot Don’t Know Yet will premiere at the NYC Independent Film Festival tomorrow. The stars James Kyson (Heroes) and Lisa Goldstein (One Tree Hill).  UNCW professor,Terry Linehan, wrote and directed the feature and he calls it  “a love letter to the state of North Carolina.”  You will also see local actors David Andrews, Bill Ladd and Jane McNeill Balter. Wanna know where some of the scenes were shot in Under the Dome? I got an email from Owen in Connecticut:

I watched the Under the Dome premiere, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I have a strange question I’m hoping you can answer.  In the episode, Barbie (Mike Vogel), in an effort to avoid cows in the middle of the street, crashes through a fence and onto a farm where Angie (Britt Robertson) and Joe (Colin Ford) live. Shortly after Barbie crashes his car, the titular dome comes crashing down on Chester’s Mill … splitting an unlucky cow in the process! I know the majority of the pilot episode was filmed in Southport, Burgaw and Wilmington, but I’m guessing this farm is not in any of those three places. I’m not a local, however (I live in Connecticut), so I was wondering if you might happen to know where this series-setting scene was filmed. Any help would be terrific.

Thanks for writing Owen, and here’s your answer along with some other locations.

Under the Dome is shot in three different counties: New Hanover (Wilmington), Brunswick (Southport) and Pender (Burgaw and Currie).

– The scene where Mike Vogel (Barbie) crashed in the pilot and where the dome came down on him and Colin Ford (Joe) was shot in Currie, NC

– Big Jim’s Car Lot took over Southport Motorcars on North Howe Street in Southport.

– Chester’s Mill Clinic is actually The Ocean Trail Convalescent Center also in Southport.

– Big Jim’s house is actually in two different counties.  His back porch is in Southport on E. Bay St, but the inside of his house is near downtown Wilmington on Chestnut St.

– The location used for the kids partying after the dome comes down with John Elvis (Ben) and Colin Ford (Joe) is called the 6th St Bridge (aka Harry Forden Truss Bridge) which is just past Downtown Wilmington.

– The location used for the gas station where Mackenzie Lintz(Norrie), Aisha Hinds(Carolyn) and Samantha Mathis(Alice) stops before the dome comes down is in downtown Burgaw at a defunct gas station at the corner of E. Wilmington/N. Wright St.UTDset062013_0454

– The exterior radio station is in Southport, but the interior is on Sound Stage 7 at EUE/Screen Gems studios in Wilmington.

– Other interiors at EUE/Screen Gems includes the bunker where Alexander Koch (Junior) holds Britt Robertson (Angie) captive.  This is also on Stage 7.

– On Stage 8, you will find the Sweetbriar Rose, the cafe run by Beth Broderick (Rose).UTDSet062013_0306

zap2it_homeNo summer series has been more highly anticipated than Under the Dome. Based on a bestselling Stephen King novel, executive produced by A-list showrunner Neal Baer and with a cast that includes Dean Norris, Rachelle Lefevre and Britt Robertson, this is one summer show that isn’t debuting after the official end of the season because of a lack of network confidence. It’s intended to be a big event. So how big do you think its premiere tonight will be? MAKE YOUR PREDICTIONS NOW!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 06/20/2013 Sleepy Hollow, Under the Dome, Eastbound and Down, Tammy

Tonight is the big night!  The HUGE Under the Dome Premiere in Wilmywood baby!  Thalian Hall will be starlit!  The ENTIRE cast is getting a pass to get out of filming to walk the red carpet and attend the event!!  That includes producers and writers too!  Jack Bender, Neal Baer, Brian K Vaughan and of course Stephen King!

ALL UNDER THE DOME TICKET WINNERS: CBS is insistent you must be in your seats by 6pm Thursday – OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SEAT! Don’t be late!

With 4 days until the television premiere, the press is going nuts grabbing interviews left and right from the cast.  The Huffington Post continues it’s trend, this time they got a hold of Miss Rachelle LeFevre.  Here’s an excerpt:

What can you preview about her relationship with Barbie (Mike Vogel), since it seems like their paths cross fairly early on?
Well, I think they gravitate towards each other initially because neither of them is from there. Both of them are outsiders — him more than her — but certainly, that’s something they have in common immediately. Energetically, it kind of differentiates them. Everyone else, they’ve all lived together, grown up together. They’re going to stay there. Neither Barbie nor I feel that way about this place. So we’re unique in that nobody wants to be trapped, but they’re at least trapped at home and we’re not. And so that gives us something immediately in common … There is a strong chemistry there and a strong curiosity about one another, you know, “Who are you and why are you here?”

MsPenny_tweetYesterday I told you about the flames and explosions that were taking place on the set of Tammy.  Well, Miss Penny Lane tweeted a photo of what went down.  Today Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Bates, Mark Duplass and Sandra Oh head to LA baby!  Leland that is.  They are off the the Leland House off Lincoln Rd.

Eastbound and Down will be at two locations today.  Just off N. Kerr Ave and at Market/Cardinal at Stevenson Direct.  I caught up with the incredibly talented actor, Cullen Moss, after he did a stint this week on EBD, and did multiple scenes with Danny McBride.

Still from "The Heroes of Arvine Place"

Still from “The Heroes of Arvine Place”

He’s going to be in the first episode of season 4, playing the general manager of a business, who has an antagonistic relationship with Kenny Powers.  “This will be my only episode, as far as I know, Cullen said.  “I had so much damn fun! We did the scenes as scripted, and then were given chances to use alternate lines and go off on lengthy improvised tangents. That kind of spontaneously creative atmosphere that they’re able to provide is invaluable. In addition to the actors being given that freedom, the writers and the director (Jody Hill) are there, fine-tuning and tweaking the dialogue every moment. It was a completely creative, vitalizing, and affirming experience. I’m hoping they’ll find a way to get me back in the mix later in the season.”

Pre-Production is going swimmingly for Sleepy Hollow and they are still accepting resumes for crew positions.  There are just a handful of positions available, i.e. Set PA, Art PA, and possible assistant to the director.  I am sure there are a few more, so go for it!  BUT be prepared, I would highly recommend to apply ONLY if you are a night owl.  I’ve heard there will be a lot of overnights shoots of this series.   Get your resumes in: sleepyhollowseason1@gmail.com.  As far as extras casting goes, there is speculation, but there is no official word on who has signed on the dotted line for that position.  I will be able to reveal that to you in the next 2 weeks.  Production begins in late July!  Bring it!

Check out the latest promo for Sleepy Hollow that came out this week!
