THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/20/2013 Another Movie for NC, Eric Laden, Encore’s Best Of and More!

gold45revolverWriter/Producer Elliot McGucken is taking his award winning screenplay, “The Legend of McCoy Mountain & The Gold 45 Revolver” to the silver screen, and my sources tell me as it stands, they will be shooting this flick in LA, New York and North Carolina.  I am still waiting to hear back on exactly where in NC they will be filming.  Let’s hope their plans don’t change! The movie is about Mary McCoy and her boyfriend who head on up McCoy Mountain to film the ghost of Civil War abolitionist Johnny Ranger McCoy for Mary’s Sundance documentary.  They end up finding out firsthand if Johnny’s Gold 45 Revolver really does fire lightning in the hands of heroes willing to give that last, full-measure of devotion.  Look for this production to start up in the Spring.

Remember the indie flick Riverguard that shot here this past summer?  Eric Ladin, the lead in the Wilmywood shot movie has been cast as a regular in The Brink, HBO’s pilot directed by Jay Roach from a script by Roberto Benabib and Kim Benabib and exec produced by Jerry Weintraub. The Brink is an epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander (Tim Robbins); Alex Coppins (Jack Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Callahan (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot. Ladin will play Lieutenant Glenn Taylor, Callahan’s ace wingman.

There was a big buzz on the set of Eastbound and Down yesterday, the final day for EBD.  Sacha Baron Cohen graced us with his presence, well on the lot anyway.  He was here for the past few days.  I wonder if he actually got to see a ‘lil of Wilmywood besides the lot?  Hope so.  The gang has moved on to Charlotte.  But before Danny McBride left Wilmywood, he did say he hopes to bring more projects here.  Um, Loomis Fargo w/ Jim Carrey and Owen Wilson, perhaps!  After all he and Jody Hill did write and the word remains, they are looking at early 2014.

SNOW DAY!  Yesterday Christmas in Conway turned into Christmas in August as a wonderful holiday scene was shot with plenty of snow!  The gang was back at the ferris wheel location in Forest Hills and from what I heard, it was a very touching scene between Andy Garcia and Mary Louise Parker.  There were a lot of background extras and I heard a lot of hot Firemen.  Ha!  Kudos to the actors and background for staying pleasant while wearing their winter wear with the weather in the 80s.  (Kinda like working on Sleepy Hollow perhaps?)

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 08/15/2013 LINDSAY LOHAN IS IN TOWN!

Lindsey Lohan

Lindsey Lohan (Photo credit: JohnSeb)

Well, I was gonna be quiet about it, but TMZ per their usual sneakiness just leaked the news. Lindsey Lohan is in town for a stint on Eastbound and Down.  SPOILER ALERT: She is playing the adult version of Kenny’s illegitimate daughter on the season and series finale.

TMZ reports there could be a spin-off based on her character in EBD Season 4…saying: “It’s a pretty big opportunity for Lindsay — her first real acting gig since she left rehab — because if she’s funny, a spin-off could be in the cards. Crazier things have happened.”

So what is like to be with her on set?  Yesterday, my sources said she was really nice to everyone and is happy to be back in the acting world.  I am actually really excited she is here because I am pulling for her to get her career back on track.  I think I have watched Mean Girls like 100 times!

Alexander Skarsgard

And if that is not enough, guess who else is in town?  If you’re a True Blood fan, you will love to know Mr. Hotness Alexander Skarsgard will be on set today as well!  Eastbound has pulled out all the stops when it comes to cameos this season!  A huge scene is supposed to go down on Eastbound and Down in Castle Hayne this afternoon, weather permitting.

Our gorgeous local boy, Dominic Santana is back in the local ET news.  Or more like BET news!  Huge congrats are in order as Dominic will continue his stint on the second season of the comedy, The Game.  “I’m looking forward to what BET may have in store for me and representing Wilmington film.”   Production starts back up in October.  Love that man!  He gives the BEST hugs!  Congrats Dom!

As far as filming goes today, the weather is not helping. Christmas in Conway is supposed to back on Forest Hills Drive.

sleepyhollowSleepy Hollow is in luck as they are shooting in Atkinson today.  Hopefully the weather will hold out for them.  We are in 2nd place.  Let’s try to take over New York and reach the #1 spot to ensure our early screening of Sleepy Hollow!  We need 100 votes to reach #1 VOTE NOW and VOTE EVERY DAY.

martysiuAnd finally, sorry I didn’t get to this earlier but CONGRATS to Marty Siu!  Our local girl is the official extras casting director for the next Spongebob movie, to be filmed in Savannah, GA during the month of October.  This will be the sequel.  They are mixing live action with animation.  PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT YET.  Marty will let us know when she is ready!  But you can give her major kudos for getting the gig!  Wish it was here, but hey, we love our Marty!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 06/18/2013

LISTEN TO PODCAST

So I would like to personally thank Angie at CBS up in New York.  Not only is she making this incredible Under the Dome Red Carpet Premiere happen in Wilmington, but she also lined up interviews with the film commission here in Wilmington, in Southport and beyond to do stories with all the news outlets coming out for this event.  The interviews will involve the economic impact of filming in this area.  THIS IS HUGE!  This is exactly what those politicians that are against the film incentives need to hear, and those who live in those counties these representatives live in!  News crews are coming in from all over the region: Greenville, Greensboro, Raleigh, Myrtle Beach, Charlotte and they will be representing the bigger markets with their reporting reaching into Georgia, Florida, Maryland and beyond.

The Under the Dome  Red Carpet event is just two days away, the Worldwide television premiere in just 6!  And the closer we get, the more we uncover about the actors and their characters they play.  Mike Vogel talks about his anti-hero turned hero character “Barbie” in this Huffington Post article which came out yesterday. Here’s an excerpt.

“Barbie is a great guy. I love him. He’s a former Special Forces operator. He’s gotten out of the military and since then, he’s done a bunch of odd jobs, trying to find his spot and where he fits in.

He finds himself basically collecting debts for a bookie and nine times out of 10, it’s a nonviolent ordeal. He’s not a heavy that’s going around thumping on people, breaking kneecaps, [saying,] “Pay up. Pay up.” Normally, everyone’s willing. But he finds himself in some situations where he has to defend himself, which is sort of the catalyst which brings him into this town and he happens to find himself here when this event happens.

So he finds himself stuck in a position of having had to defend himself after a rather nefarious deed and stuck in a small town where word travels fast and everyone knows everyone. There’s a lot of stuff swirling in the first couple episodes, and what I like about the show is, judging by the opening of the show, someone might say, “Oh, Barbie, bad guy — Big Jim [played by Dean Norris], good guy.” But that’s not at all the case. And I enjoy that it takes time for everything to unravel here and that everything that you see is not what you’re getting.”

Barbie’s love interest Julia aka Rachelle LeFevre was on Craig Ferguson last night.  Here’s a link to last night’s interview.  Great interview!  But I have to say one of my favorite parts was when they showed a clip from the pilot, and who was there in the scene with Rachelle LeFevre and Mike Vogel?  Our local boy, Mike Rosander!  Woo Hoo!  Great job Mike!  The Domies will be back on Chestnut St today, then they will head back to the lot.

If any of the past shows speak of  Stephen King’s future, music will play a big role in this Summer series.  If you remember the soundtrack to Maximum Overdrive that was shot here in 1986, it was doused in AC/DC’.  “Who Made Who” is the official soundtrack (minus Roger Miller’s ‘King of the Road’), a film that has since become a cult classic .  He’s quite a fan of  rock and Americana.  I found an article that listed King’s Ultimate playlist from 2009.  So, of course it makes perfect sense that we have, Under the Dome Radio.

And finally, speaking of audio, there is much buzz about this!  Originally the UTD pilot contained sound bytes from President Obama in an Emergency Address to the nation about the situation with Chester’s Mill, but they decided to cut it.  Why? The audio they used came from remarks the President made in a speech about Hurricane Sandy.  According to the statement issued by CBS: “The scene cleared broadcast standards, but both Amblin TV and CBS had concerns about using actual audio in this specific fictional context.”  I agree. It’s a sensitive issue, and just like the did with Mike & Molly during the tornado tragedy, they did the right thing.

Your next Mullet sighting will be on Market Street.  Danny McBride and the crew of Eastbound and Down are shooting at Neuwirth  Auto Center all day today.  Here’s a clip from last week w/ TMZ asking Danny about his corn rows of the past.

This will be the last day for Tammy at the GORGEOUS house on Cabbage Inlet during the big 4th of July Bash.  On set today is Sandra Oh, Susan Sarandon, Melissa McCarthy

PERFECT SUMMER PROMOThe Love Letter shooting at Bicentennial Park again today just off 5th St.  You’ll see Keshia Knight Pulliam, Lil Romeo and Jackee today!  Gary Wheeler is not only directing this flick but is releasing another with his Swirl pals!  The Perfect Summer premieres Saturday, July 13th on the UP Network.  Wanna see a clip?  Look how adorable Sydney Penny is!  But wait a second.  Weren’t they just here filming like a few days ago?  Man, they move fast!  Great job Swirl Films!

According to Box Office MoJo, ‘Iron Man 3‘ passed $1.2 billion this weekend, making it the #5 highest gross movie worldwide!

Planter’s Peanuts is shooting a commercial Thursday at the Wilmington Convention Center.  Mr. Peanut is giving a motivational speech, meanwhile a group is playing flag football outside in the grass.
