Happy Monday Wilmywood! Lots to talk about as we were blogging all weekend long!
THIS MORNING: On the Sunny Morning Show on Sunny 104.5, Football Coordinator, Mark Ellis joins us at 8:15am to talk about the big open call for athletes for the The Untitled Nikki Tuscano Project aka The Red Zone. Legion Stadium at 2131 Carolina Beach Rd. will host the open call from 10:30am-Noon. Mark has worked on projects such as The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spiderman. They are seeking Football Players for the pilot episode and are looking for male athletes ages 18-28. Those auditioning should NOT be seeking NCAA eligibility through a college program. Those selected will need to be available in Wilmington next week, however it is, per usual, subject to change. Selected players will paid for rehearsal and shooting dates. For all the details, please visit gamechangingfilms.com
The first day of production for the Nikki Tuscano project begins this Wednesday downtown!
Secrets & Lies heads to the YMCA. A little pool time for the day. And please let me point out again, they have about 100 crew members (Film=Jobs) and they are renting a local location (Revenue for a great non-profit). Thank you ABC!
The Under the Dome folks head to t he Brooklyn Arts District this morning. Again, 100 crew members (Film=Jobs), Private lot rentals, Base Camp location rental, and off duty police officers hired for traffic control (supplemental income). $$$ Thank you CBS! Plus, great news. Under the Dome is running a 2nd unit, so that means more local hires! Yay!

Well, we found out about the second feature that we were talking about a week ago. The Show, the non-union feature about the talented musician Percy King who aspires to be a great band director, will be shooting in Daytona Beach, FL/Charlotte-Greensboro-Durham, NC/(Atlanta, GA-TBA). READ MORE NOW
An article came out yesterday from the Associated Press about the NC Film Incentives, the pros and cons according to legislators. They also talked about the HIGHLY anticipated Impact Study that was conducted at the end of last year. If you are like me, you have been EAGERLY waiting for this. The good news is that it is done, and already some Wilmington folks have already been briefed on its findings. It will be released to the public sometime this month. READ STORY NOW
The Society of Camera Operators paid tribute to Sarah Jones this week in its annual awards ceremony. Earlier in the week a candlelight vigil took place on Sunset Boulevard with nearly 1,000 supporters in attendance. Sarah’s parents attended both of these events where they accepted a plaque in Sarah’s honor and spoke on her behalf.
The tragic death of 27 year old Sarah has sparked a great amount of attention to the importance of on set safety. The film ‘Midnight Rider‘ has suspended filming since the encounter with a train that injured 7 crew members, including Sleepy Hollow hair stylist, Joyce Gilliard and took the life of Sarah Jones.
A scholarship fund has been set up in Sarah’s name and an address to send donations is included in the full story here.
