THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 03/03/2014 Secrets & Lies, Under the Dome, Tributes at The Oscars

Happy Monday Wilmywood! Looks like a tweetfest was on over the weekend!  You’ll see what I mean.  Let’s get started!  A great first day of filming on the set of ABC’s Secrets and Lies on Friday. And a long one too.  A sixteen hour work day concluded around midnight for our talented cast and crew filming in the Porter’s Neck area. Aaron Kaplan tweeted a pic from the set.

Included in the mix was Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis and Natalie Martinez just to name a few. Natalie tweeted on Friday:

Oh and kudos to Cinema Catering, I heard the food was fabulous.  May taste buds around the set today indulge once more!  Over the weekend it looks like the SNL crew had a little fun on the intracoastal waterway.  Producer Aaron Kaplan tweeted a shot of our lovely Natalie:

The cast and crew will be back in the Porter’s Neck area again today. Natalie is gonna be one busy lady for the next few weeks as she is doing double time on Secrets & Lies AND Under the Dome. And yes! Today’s the day! The film family is back together!  Day one begins in Burgaw it looks like it’s going to be a long day as well for our Domies.

It’s gonna be one hell of an episode!  If you remember when we, along with every other media outlet,  reported that this is the “Stephen King” episode.  Yep, written by the horror god himself.  And by the way, rumors are flying about the brilliant writer already being in town.  So, be on the lookout, you never know where he might be floating around Wilmington.  And yes, our man, had to tweet his excitement, too!

Jack Bender is directing this episode.  We can safely do the math on this one.  King+Bender=Epic Premiere episode!  Can’t wait until June 30th to see what they are dishing out!

Meanwhile you know the actors love our restaurants here in Wilmywood and the latest  love comes from Dean!

“Topsail oysters on a Sunday afternoon at the Dock Street oyster bar are the salties BEST this time of year #wilmington

And can I give some MAJOR KUDOS to Rachelle LeFevre who hosted a little get together for the cast and crew over at the Blue Post Friday night before all the craziness begins!  What a woman!  Love her!

So, yes we have two productions running and by late next week, we will have three.  What we called The Red Zone, is back to it’s original title, the “Untitled Nikki Toscano Project.”  This will be the week of breaking casting news!  As soon as I know anything, I will fill you in.

Sarah_OscarNow moving on to last night’s Academy Awards, I will hand it over to Clare Halstead, our new contributor for The Wilmywood Daily.

Although the Oscars are usually a night for pure entertainment, there was another reason that the film community was tuned in. We lost a member of our film family last month due to an incident that could have been prevented. Sarah Elizabeth Jones, a beloved local IATSE 600 camera assistant was tragically killed while during a test shoot for the film Midnight Rider. The accident happened in Jesup, Georgia, where Midnight Rider was going to start filming the very next day. While Pink sang along with clips of the Wizard of Oz, I couldn’t help but think perhaps this was one of the movies that had given Sarah the inspiration to go into film.

But perhaps the moment of the night which left some people in joyous tears, others in disappointment was after the In Memoriam.  The Oscars paid tribute to Shirley Temple, Paul Walker, and Phillip Seymour Hoffmann, just to name a few.  Bette Midler, came on stage and left us weeping  with her Beaches theme,   “Wind Beneath My Wings.”  After the standing ovation, a banner below just for Sarah appeared.  While a few went to twitter saddened that Sarah was not in the big planned “keep us in your memory” section, I was proud, along with so many that she stood alone. It was like that song was just for her.

 Well done, Academy.  #ClassAct.

We all have these dreams that we aspire to achieve before our time is up, and sometimes those dreams seem so far away. I’m not ashamed to admit that while Pink sang, I shed a few tears. I couldn’t help but think of how painful it must have been for her Sarah_Memoriamfamily know that she wouldn’t be coming home, but how comforting it must be knowing that she was doing something that she loved. Sarah wasn’t afraid to follow her dream, and neither should anyone else. Although there wasn’t much said about Sarah Jones at the beginning Oscars, there were attendees that paid homage to her. Gravity, which won Oscars for Director, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Original Score, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects carried the memory of Sarah with them throughout the night by wearing black ribbons on their lapels.

Now of course the two other reasons so many Wilmywood folks watched last night  was for our two North Carolina shot films. Bad Grandpa’s Steven Prouty was nominated for best makeup, however they lost out to the Dallas Buyers Club which had a winner earlier in the evening consisting of Jared Leto (the man loves love loves his mother). And then Iron Man 3 was up for Best Visual effects, however the Oscar went to Gravity.  But after the beautiful yet silent homage from so many folks who worked on that film, it was a pleasure watching them win.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 02/28/2014 Secrets & Lies Rolling, Under The Dome, Sarah Jones Online Memorial, and more.

secretsLiesYay!  The first production day of the season!  ABC’s Secrets & Lies kicks it off in Porter’s Neck.  Wanna know some more secrets?  How about how Producer Aaron Kaplan feels about Wilmington and why he chose to bring it here.  Hunter Ingram of the Star News snagged this fabulous quote:

aaronkaplan“When we were trying to decide where to shoot this, one of the most important things for us was that we had to pick an American city that felt very safe, very bucolic and a place that would be rattled by something like the murder of a child,” Kaplan said.

Aaron says more and he wasn’t the only one that agreed.  Find out who cited our excellent film incentives and crew base to seal the deal. READ MORE NOW

charlesduttonThis came out yesterday afternoon!  Australian actress Indiana Evans, has signed on the dotted line as well as three other actors for Secrets & Lies.  Deadline reports that Evans will play Natalie, Ben and Christy’s teenage daughter.  But I am most excited about Charles Dutton!  He will play one of the neighbors, Kevin Williams.  Also added to the list are Steven Brand (Magic City) as Dr. Joseph Turner, another neighbor, and Kate Ashfield (Shaun of the Dead).  READ MORE NOW.

UTD_SlateForSarahAs we gear up for Under the Dome to begin production on Monday in Burgaw, they stopped what they were doing to add to the 100s of slates from around the world paying their respects to Sarah Jones.  Thank you John and the gang!  You rock!
