THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 07/17/2014 Jack Bender’s UTD Tease, The Remaining release date, Secrets & Lies

“That’s a wrap,” will be called out later today! Final day on E. Bay St. in Southport! They will just be doing some pick up shots on Friday. However, some folks are already going home.

Sheila Mobile Dome

But before everyone heads for the hills, we want answers, right? I caught up with EP/Director Jack Bender and he gives yet one more tease of things to come. I LOVE THIS MAN!

But we won’t be down to two productions for long as ABC’s Secrets & Lies starts up next week. And the stars? Well, many of them are flying in this weekend.

If you remember Charles Dutton had to turn down his role in the pilot episode due to health reasons, so in came the fabulous Greg Alan Williams. Yesterday, I heard that Charles Dutton will not be returning to the show after all, and Greg will join the cast.

The Longest Ride is officially halfway through filming, 23 out of their scheduled 46 days.  They are back on Orange St. today.

_MG_7385.CR2A release date for the Wilmywood shot The Remaining has been revealed. So get ready to gather your friends and hit the theaters September 5th! The Remaining stars Alexa Vega.

Well looky here, Gov. McCrory is returning to Wilmington today, but so far has no plans to come visit the sets or the studios. Nope. The North Carolina Business Committee for Education is having a regional meeting at the Corning Plant Tour. He will be there at 3pm.

Speaking of the Governor, if you remember in his interview with Jon Evans at WECT, he called for more promotion of the state of North Carolina when productions filmed here. Absurd because many productions do it all the time, but he just doesn’t pay attention like we do. But seriously, I think Under the Dome has got it covered, Govna! Did you see this yesterday? And our locations guru Brooke Barnhill is the star of this piece, well, next to Wilmington, Southport and Burgaw! WATCH INCREDIBLE VIDEO NOW

And a final piece of satisfying news, we aren’t the only ones calling Bullshit when it comes to our governor.  Here’s an interesting read:

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 07/15/2014 Secrets & Lies, Under the Dome, Pat McCrory and more.

LyleChumleyHoly Kudzu! Do you agree that last night’s episode of Under the Dome was the best one so far? Dwight Yoakam is so good at being bad.  #UnderTheDome ratings are on the rise to 1.9 up 2/10ths from last week’s 1.7 A18-49 rating.  This time we beat those Ninjas and in fact Dome is #1 for the night.

Our Domies are shooting at the Gypsum Plant today.

Sleepy Hollow is on 1300 block of S. 5th Ave. as well as Hwy 421 near Sutton Lake Rd.

The Longest Ride is back on Orange St downtown.

AshliBogartExtras Casting Director, Ashli Bogart is gearing up for ABC’s Secrets & Lies which in turn is gearing up for production! She writes, “Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Secrets and Lies will be starting back up the end of next week so we are going to start booking in over the next couple of days. Those of you who worked on the pilot as reporters, neighbors and police make sure you check your emails cause we are going to want you back. Don’t worry….we will also need folks who did not work on the pilot. Keep a look out on this FB page for casting calls for stand ins for the season as well. The email for background for the show will be secretsandliesextras@gmail.com.”

stewartYesterday, things got REALLY heated as Gov. Pat McCrory for the 2nd time stated false numbers and claiming The Daily Show had abused the system.  This time it was on Charlotte’s WFAE, an NPR station.  (HERE’S THE AUDIO: (Film Incentive Talk starts at 47:40)  Would anyone else like to join me by telling Pat McCrory to STOP spewing out false numbers? THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 07/10/2014 Gov’s False Claim of Abuse, Emmy Noms for NC Film and More.

In an excellent article in the Star News, film supporters and industry leaders are firing back at the Governor’s claim of abuse of the film incentive and we have proof that his statements are completely false.

starnewsPat McCrory said the state paid Comedy Central $400,000 when The Daily Show with Jon Stewart came in and covered the democratic convention. But after checking the audit records, the production company received $190,211 from the incentive not the 400k. They spent a total of $760,846 here in North Carolina.

Now, we all know the truth, however, the general public only hears so much. These are the kind of things that get people to believe all the false rumors and myths about our film industry. McCrory just spews out misinformation and goes about his business. I would like a retraction from him on his statement, and I think we should all call for it.  It is our industry that the governor is abusing, not the other way around.  READ ARTICLE NOW!

And if you would like to join me in asking our governor to retract his false statement, please do!

Gov. Pat McCrory Refuses to Visit with Film Industry in Wilmington

Gov. Pat McCrory Refuses to Visit with Film Industry in Wilmington Today

At stake: 4200 fulltime film jobs as film incentive negotiations wrap up with the short session of the legislature

Wilmington, NC (July 2, 2014) Last week, EUE/Screen Gems Studios Executive Vice-President Bill Vassar and COO Chris Cooney sent a letter inviting Gov. Pat McCrory to visit EUE/Screen Gems Studios. The request followed Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo’s verbal invitation during a June 25 press conference at the North Carolina Legislative Building in Raleigh. On May 8, longtime Wilmington crew member Dale Williams sent a letter to the Governor asking for a meeting. It was covered by WWAY. A few months back, Vassar and Cooney asked for a meeting with the Governor to provide insight on the economic impact of the industry and to answer questions about the incentive.

All requests were denied.

We are deeply disappointed that the Governor has not visited our studio and experienced the North Carolina film industry firsthand,” says Bill Vassar. “We want to work with him to find the compromises he called for in the interview today with WECT. Some of the suggestions he made would hurt the industry dramatically; others will help it grow. That’s why we want the face-to-face time with him.”

Vassar says there has been no abuse of the film incentive. Every show that has received incentive money has gotten that money lawfully. Vassar and other industry leaders agree that rules about what types of shows are eligible for an incentive should be tightened.

In addition, Vassar applauds the Governor’s suggestion about adding more marketing opportunities for North Carolina. For example, neighboring Georgia requires the Georgia peach logo to be included in the credits of all productions filmed in the state.

When you start talking about incentive funding numbers and grants, you have to understand industry nuances and what your competitors are offering. New Mexico’s incentive is a 25 to 35 percent refundable tax credit. It’s NOT a grant,” Vassar explains. “We want to help the Governor understand what made us a Tier 1 film state—one of the top destinations globally for film and television production. If we move away from that Tier 1 status, we will not have enough productions coming to the state to keep the 4200 full-time, tax-paying individuals working in the industry. The state must commit to the industry and maintain Tier 1 status, or the industry—and our three generations of trained crew—will be forced to relocate. “

The industry wants the Governor to see how hard-working people make a good living. Caterers, electricians, interior designers, thrift shop owners, seamstresses, technology and security professionals, drivers and more work in film production. The industry employs a broad range of skill sets. In addition, seasoned crew engineer stunts, design and build sets and light the productions. Hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and rental agencies serve the talent that comes in for a production. Casting agencies, florists, and art dealers are just a few of the small businesses that have launched in Wilmington to serve the industry.

Every time a lawmaker visits our studio or a location set, they have an ‘aha’ moment and leave with a new understanding of the industry and the jobs it provides,” Vassar says.

Vassar is once again extending an invitation to the Governor to come to Wilmington, see the largest studio east of California and witness this industry at work. And he’s willing to meet with the Governor in Raleigh, as well.

FILM INCENTIVES: Your mission for Monday, June 30, 2014

housnce

Good morning my beautiful North Carolina peeps.  Over the weekend, I was told yet again from those on the inside that what we are doing i.e. making the phone calls and sending emails, is working. BIG TIME. The folks who will decide our fate are feeling the pressure.  So, again I tell you, DO NOT give up.  At this point there is a strong possibility that they will extend the current film incentives for another year, study them carefully and then revisit them in the long session.

IF, and I mean only, IF we keep up the good work we have been doing over the past month.

So, again, PLEASE be polite, and CALL, CALL, CALL.

Today we will be calling The Speaker of the House, Thom Tillis,   Governor Pat McCrory and we will now be putting pressure on Senator Berger.

Let them know you are a voter, let them know your story, and ask them to extend the film incentives AS THEY ARE!

SONY DSCLet’s please give a huge thank you to our Mayor Billy Saffo who spoke out yesterday regarding the film incentives.  He, like us, would like to keep the film incentives the way they are, and spoke out against the grant program.

“Why kill a good thing,” Saffo said. “We have a thousand people that work in this industry, that work here permanently and to lose a thousand jobs would be a tragedy.”  (Speaking about just in the Wilmington area).  And as far as the grant program, Saffo said, “We have been told by the film industry, we have been told by Disney, we’ve been told by every production company that’s working in the state – it will not work.”  READ STORY NOW

The next 36 hours will determine our future in NC Film.

Okay, North Carolina. This is it.  The next 36 hours will determine our future.  North Carolina already has a past of missing the boat and giving our jobs away to other states  i.e. NC Caterpillar plant (1000 Jobs to GA), Continental Tire (2000 Jobs to SC), and Toyota HQ (7000 jobs to TX). Just this week, we lost over 7000 jobs opportunities and nearly ONE BILLION in investments to South Carolina.

And now we stand here watching in awe, with glazed expressions, as the people who “represent” us are doing what they do best, attempting to repeat history.

We need to break the viscous circle and it begins today, and it begins with you.  Your mission should you choose to accept it?

We want the Capital begging for an ark because of all the phone calls and emails flooding Raleigh today.  We want the Governor’s office to hear us so loud, their ears will be ringing  by the end of the day.  We will remain polite and civil, but they will certainly get the message.  They WILL hear our voice.

Raleigh needs to hear from EVERYONE.  There are still thousands of NC residents that love film being in our state that have not voiced their opinion by picking up a phone or sending an email.  Well, today is the day.  Crew, Background actors, small businesses, actors, community leaders!  We need you. All of you. And just because you don’t work in the film industry, does NOT mean you shouldn’t call.  In fact, we NEED your voice in the mix, too.  They need to see that it is all of us who support the industry, not just the workers or vendors.

We need THOUSANDS of calls today, not hundreds.  So gather every friend, neighbor and co-worker, look them in the eye and tell them to make these calls because our film future depends on it.  Hell, dial the number for them!

I’ve been told for the past week that the only reason that our film incentives are still even in the conversation is because of your hard work and the phone calls and emails you have already made and sent.  So, thank you!

Today, you tell Speaker Thom Tillis to SPEAK up!  You tell Governor McCrory to do the right thing and keep our film incentives going.  Tell them to keep them in place and end that damn sunset!  You call your legislator that represents you and tell them you are a voter and you have a voice!

HERE’S THE CONTACT LIST FOR ALL NC HOUSE MEMBERShttp://keepncfilm.org/contact-nc-representatives/

We have lost over 10,000 jobs due to the current leadership, and I’ll be damned if we lose 4200 more.  They are clean, high paying jobs.  Let’s keep them in North Carolina.

Lastly, SHARE SHARE SHARE!  Please pass this blog to all your friends across the state.  They need to hear from EVERY county in North Carolina, today!

Give it everything you got.  EVERYTHING!  Show them who we are and just how many we are.

Let’s do this!
