THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 05/12/2014 The Upfronts, Sleepy Hollow, The Heart, Secrets and Lies, Max Steel

Goood Monday morning!  Wow, so much has been announced since Friday and lots of action from the big networks begin today.

UPFRONTSYep, it’s all about the Upfronts!  Now, they already let a few cats out of the bag as they do from time to time before their big presentations.

According to Nellie over at Deadline, Red Zone is reportedly not getting picked up by CBS.  We will know more this week, possibly today.  If you remember, the Nikki Toscano pilot was shot for CBS by NBC/Universal, so they still have the opportunity to shop it elsewhere.   Whether they do or not, is yet to be known.

sleepy hollow 2

And speaking of upfronts our Sleepyheads are in New York as we speak because today is the day for Fox as well as NBC.  Orlando Jones, Katie Winter, John Noble, Lyndie Greenwood, Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie are all in attendance.  This we already know: On Monday nights, the new Batman prequel Gotham will take over the 8pm time slot, followed by the second season of Sleepy Hollow at 9pm. Now we wait on the premiere date in September.  We do know that there will be 18 episodes of monster fun this season. Now how about a date please 🙂   Here’s the schedule:

May 12 , 2014
NBC 11am – Javits Center
Fox 4pm – Beacon Theatre

May 13, 2014
ABC – 4pm  -Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center

May 14, 2014
CBS 4pm –  Carnegie Hall

SecretsLies_CastAnd even though ABC’s Upfronts aren’t until tomorrow, the network made the announcement that Secrets and Lies has been picked up.   And Hunter over at the Star News got the scoop, they are indeed coming back to Wilmington.  So, get ready!  Offices will reopen in just a few weeks.  They begin production in July.  Months ago they said they were looking at an October premiere, now we find out if they will stick to that plan!

In sad news, it’s R.I.P. to Revolution.  After moving to Austin, TX for season 2, they got the boot.  The power will not be restored.

Kristen WiigWe’ve been waiting patiently for news to come out about The Heart starring Kristen Wiig.  If you remember they had a deadline over a week ago to lower the budget or pick up some more financiers in order to make the comedy happen.  Indian Paintbrush Pictures should be telling us something this week.   I will keep you posted.

MaxSteel050314_0218Congrats to Mattel and Dolphin Films! It looks like their sales group, IM Global has gotten Max Steel pre-sales all over most of Europe and Southeast Asia.  In fact they are so popular, I’ve heard the casting department has gotten calls from Taiwan begging to be in the movie, saying they would fly in and work for free.  Isn’t that crazy!

Under the Dome is at Greenfield Lake Park (main playground area) Union Station and N 4th.  Max Steel is off today.  Sleepy Hollow is off due to the Upfronts.

Martha De Laurentiis spent her weekend in Wrightsville Beach this weekend.  It was so nice to know she still loves this town considering what she helped build here with Dino.  I know she still has a house here, now if we can get this lovely lady to bring us Hannibal, everything will be just fine 🙂

The Wilmywood Daily – 05/09/2014 The Upfronts, Firestarter, The Crow, Locations today and more.

We made it to the weekend! Woo Hoo!!  First, let me remind you of the excitement that is to come next week.  The Upfronts!  In case you don’t know, the Upfronts are scheduled presentations from all the networks.  Normally, it is during this time (8 weeks), we find out about shows that will get picked up, special sneak peeks of shows currently in production and they also give out premiere dates.

UPFRONTS The major networks will be presenting next week.  What will we find out?  Well, probably the fate of ABC’s Secrets and Lies (READ DEADLINE’S TAKE ON ABC PILOTS) that shot here back in February as well as Red Zone, now called Field of Play (although I heard they will probably head back to LA if it gets picked up).  We are also waiting on a premiere date for Sleepy Hollow.  So get ready!  It’s gonna be fun!  We won’t know anything about How and Why for at least another month, but it looks very promising!

I wanted to thank Edward Martin for writing an incredible article in Business NC Magazine!  He fairly wrote about both sides of the issue of NC Film Incentives and it was beautifully written.  If you find a copy, pick up a few!

Now, where will our productions be shooting around town today?

Under the Dome will be playing around at Greenfield Lake Park and on Wellesley Place and Max Steel will be off Middle Sound Loop Rd. Sleepy Hollow will be shooting later today in Castle Hayne again and The Sin Seer is at an undisclosed location.

Max-SteelMax Steel stole the hearts of many and closed some pre-sales throughout most of Europe as well as Asia! We’re talkin’ Germany, France, Italy, Russia and all over Southeast Asia, they all want some of the Steel action!  Congrats already to the Wilmywood folks working so hard on this fun superhero flick!

BrettCullen

Oh and guess what I heard!  Our awesome Brett Cullen who was here last year for Riverguard, is back in town!  Now rumor has it he will be making an appearance on Under the Dome!  We will see if the trades pick that up or if I can do some some digging, I will tell more as soon as I know! If this is true, I can’t wait to hug him!  LOVE this guy!

imageSunday is a very special day in Wilmywood movie history. On May 11, 1984 a very important film was released. That movie was Stephen King’s Firestarter. The film starred a young Drew Barrymore, David Keith and Heather Locklear. It’s a story of a young couple who undergo testing as part of a paid medical experiment. The experiment leaves the couple with telekinetic powers and the child the convince together is born with a “pyro kinetic” ability meaning the child can start fires with her mind. With that power, the government seeks her out and her family helps to keep her safe as she learns that fear and anger control the environment around her.

This movie is monumental in Wilmywood’s history as it is often referred to as the movie that “put us on the map” as a studio town 30 years ago. It all started with Frank Capra, Jr. spotting Orton Plantation on the cover of Southern Accents Magazine while he was searching for the ultimate location for the horror flick.  So, we happened to luck out because where ever that home was, that’s where they were gonna shoot it.  Crew members actually built a replica of the exterior of the plantation about one mile down the road.  Why?  So they could set it on fire and blow it up, of course. Other locations include the Pender County Courthouse, Isabel Holmes Bridge,  and Wilmington’s 1st Presbyterian Church.  This movie was when Wilmywood fell in love with Mr. Stephen King and (seemingly) he with us.

tscc3

We also have another NC film which is reaching its 20 year mark.. The same day only ten years after Firestarter was released, The Crow was released as well. The Crow made it’s way from the sound stages of LA to NC and stars Brandon Lee, son of martial arts legend, Bruce Lee. The film is a story of a man who returns from death to seek revenge for the death of his would-be bride and himself. Some of the film’s most memorable scenes were done at the I deal Cement plant (where Max Steel and Under the Dome is shooting now) as well as downtown Wilmington.  But most of it was filmed at Carolco Studios, which we know now to be EUE/Screen Gems.  Sadly, we lost Brandon during the course of filming, but we in Wilmywood are forever grateful for the art he brought into out town twenty years ago.

Happy anniversary to two Wilmywood movies that mean very much to out film community.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 04/29/2014 Max Steel, Wilmywood Pilots, CFIFF, Under the Dome, NC Film Rally

And so it begins!  Day one for Max Steel and they kick off their production at a local business and a local favorite, Indochine.

On the set of Under the Dome, Colin Ford got into an altercation…with a door.  He was a trooper about it after getting a couple of stitches yesterday. It briefly stopped production, but the UTD  team are pros and quickly went on to another scene while Colin got some TLC and he is now sporting a hot gauze headband and looking downright adorable as always.

Under the Dome is back in Burgaw today as well as the sound stages.

The count down is on.  6 days until Sleepy Hollow begins production!  Woo Hoo!  The stars are coming back into town and they are tellin’ the world!  Lyndie Greenwood, is one of those who are pumped about it, so much that she has the best auto-correct fail yet!

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 04/22/2014 Max Steel, Screen Gems Tours, The Crow, Red Zone, Under the Dome and more.

Hello and Howdy!  Happy Earth Day to ya!  And if you see fellow Wilmington crew member Shaun O’Rourke, make sure to tell him Happy Birthday!

UTD_DVDLooks like our Domies will be filming in two locations today.  The Burgaw Courthouse as well as in Currie. Now, we were chatting about this on Facebook yesterday as some more fun deets came out about season 2 of Under the Dome. Two things of note.  I asked about this last season! Stephen King is known for having a cameo in every movie he has done.  Sometimes it’s like Where’s Waldo, and sometimes he has a one liner.  So, I kept an eye out for him last season, but to no avail.

Well, FINALLY this season, King will do his staple thang! He will be a townsfolk in the  season premiere which airs June 30th!   And secondly, here it is again:  The Six Degrees of Wilmywood! Under the Dome‘s premiere episode is titled ‘Heads will Roll’ Coincidence? I think not!  Speaking of Sleepy Hollow, production begins on its sophomore season in just 13 days!

anthony-lapaglia copyThe upfronts are just around the corner.  That’s when we normally find out a lot of intel about our favorite Wilmywood shot shows and especially our new ones!  Like ABC’s Secrets and Lies and  Red Zone, which has been renamed Field of Play.  All of our shows have a ton of competition, however, so we will be eagerly waiting on which WIlmywood shows make the cut!  Check out the enitre fall pilot list from my homies over at EW.com

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 04/08/2014 – Rick Catlin’s Counter against Impact Study, The Biggest Loser Front of Line Passes, Under the Dome and More.

ncfilmWell, the minute the Impact study from Dr. Robert Handfield came out, we knew the backlash would come. And so it begins. A report came out yesterday requested by Rick Catlin, a New Hanover County Republican. According to WWAY, The General Assembly’s Fiscal Research Division (FRD) concludes that Dr. Robert Handfield’s report that the Film Product Credit’s net contribution to the state is positive “is based on a series of misunderstandings of the state’s tax laws, invalid or overstated assumptions, and errors in accounting.” Dr. Handfield however is standing by his study. I have not fully examined the counter against the impact study. As soon as a I do, I will give you my consensus. READ STORY NOW

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 04/03/2014 – Age of Miracles, The Heart, Sleepy Hollow, Loomis Fargo, Bolden and Way More!

Happy Thursday my loves!  What a whirlwind yesterday, huh?  Well, guess what?  Here comes some more! AND NOW IT’S TIME FOR [INSERT BILLOWING ECHO-Y VOICE] RUUUUMMOOOORS FROM THE LOT!

sleepy-hollow1SLEEPY HOLLOW will be bringing more monsters, IchAbbie and perhaps Yolanda to the fans.  Rumor has it there will be more episodes this season, as many as 18.  I will be speaking with Orlando soon, and hopefully he will get us some more deets.

BoldenMore news about BOLDEN!  Looks like the indie flick will be opening offices again very soon.  THEY MEAN IT THIS TIME! Though they do not have an official schedule yet,  I heard they will resume production at the end of the summer/early fall.  AND I heard there offices are all the way out in Rocky Point.  Crazy, right?  No word yet who will be replacing Anthony Mackie for the lead role.  And who knows, maybe he will come back to the project…we will find out soon enough.

Kristen WiigThe indie flick, THE HEART from Indian Paintbrush Productions is coming to North Carolina.  Now, I know they have been checking us out here in Wilmywood, but I cannot confirm they will be filming here…yet!  Regardless, North Carolina will see a great cast!  Kristen Wiig, Sam Rockwell and we would welcome back Allison Janney! Wiig will star as a cash-strapped woman who agrees to transport black market organs with a man she just met, to be played by Rockwell. They want to get started ASAP, so we should know the rest of the details and exact location VERY soon!  Producing is Steven Rales, Mark Roybal, Kevin J. Walsh and Nora Skinner.  Nat Faxon & Jim Rash are writing and directing.

Zach GalifianakisUNTITLED ARMORED CAR PROJECT (aka LOOMIS FARGO) has named their Line Producer. It’s our LP from SAFE HAVEND. Scott Lumpkin.  He will be heading our way after he finishes up on THE BEST OF ME in Louisiana. And I am not sure who I am more excited about  coming back to North Carolina, Owen and Zach or Producer Lorne Michaels!  North Carolina is a greenlight, waiting for final confirmation about Wilmington, but my multiple sources insist it will be here.

Catherine-hardwickeLast night, one of my rumors from yesterday morning got a confirmation.  AGE OF MIRACLES will be indeed shooting in North Carolina, now I am waiting for a Wilmywood confirmation. I do know Wilmington was in the finals for them.  Hopefully, I will have that by the end of the day.  We shall see!

sofia-vergaraFor about a month now I’ve heard from three different sources the mention of BIG SEXY, but no one knew much about it.  Seriously, they would say ‘I am hearing Big Sexy’ and I was like, ‘what about it?’ and they were like, ‘I dunno.’  Well, I found out yesterday that it’s a feature from Red Granite Pictures and it stars Sofia Vergara and Pierce Brosnan. I have no idea if this will shoot here, but keep your ears peeled cuz that name keeps popping up.  If you hear anything, lemme know!

Wilmywood film goers are encouraged to arrive as early on Sunday to enjoy the food and fun. The event will be one full of crowd pleasing and heartfelt films by very talented artists.

WUIW

by Sheila Brothers and April Vickery

Oh boy!  Look out today!!!  April’s Fools and all that!  However, no jokes here today!

Seriously this set just gets cooler and cooler!  The MAX STEEL construction crew is hard at work! I ran into a few of them a couple of weeks ago, and these are our local crew doing this amazing construct!  Look at what they are up to now!

RED ZONE will be at Screen Gems today having some CIA action today.

Regardless of being in a bubble, the folks of Chester’s Mill will be making some noise again. Last season, they got the chance to play with prop guns at Halyburton Park.  This time in they will be right across the river.  UNDER THE DOME will be filming on Point Harbor Road at the salvage yard.  So don’t panic when you hear some shots being fired in the downtown area. Blanks will be be fired throughout the day until about 7pm.
