THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 05/12/2014 The Upfronts, Sleepy Hollow, The Heart, Secrets and Lies, Max Steel

Goood Monday morning!  Wow, so much has been announced since Friday and lots of action from the big networks begin today.

UPFRONTSYep, it’s all about the Upfronts!  Now, they already let a few cats out of the bag as they do from time to time before their big presentations.

According to Nellie over at Deadline, Red Zone is reportedly not getting picked up by CBS.  We will know more this week, possibly today.  If you remember, the Nikki Toscano pilot was shot for CBS by NBC/Universal, so they still have the opportunity to shop it elsewhere.   Whether they do or not, is yet to be known.

sleepy hollow 2

And speaking of upfronts our Sleepyheads are in New York as we speak because today is the day for Fox as well as NBC.  Orlando Jones, Katie Winter, John Noble, Lyndie Greenwood, Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie are all in attendance.  This we already know: On Monday nights, the new Batman prequel Gotham will take over the 8pm time slot, followed by the second season of Sleepy Hollow at 9pm. Now we wait on the premiere date in September.  We do know that there will be 18 episodes of monster fun this season. Now how about a date please 🙂   Here’s the schedule:

May 12 , 2014
NBC 11am – Javits Center
Fox 4pm – Beacon Theatre

May 13, 2014
ABC – 4pm  -Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center

May 14, 2014
CBS 4pm –  Carnegie Hall

SecretsLies_CastAnd even though ABC’s Upfronts aren’t until tomorrow, the network made the announcement that Secrets and Lies has been picked up.   And Hunter over at the Star News got the scoop, they are indeed coming back to Wilmington.  So, get ready!  Offices will reopen in just a few weeks.  They begin production in July.  Months ago they said they were looking at an October premiere, now we find out if they will stick to that plan!

In sad news, it’s R.I.P. to Revolution.  After moving to Austin, TX for season 2, they got the boot.  The power will not be restored.

Kristen WiigWe’ve been waiting patiently for news to come out about The Heart starring Kristen Wiig.  If you remember they had a deadline over a week ago to lower the budget or pick up some more financiers in order to make the comedy happen.  Indian Paintbrush Pictures should be telling us something this week.   I will keep you posted.

MaxSteel050314_0218Congrats to Mattel and Dolphin Films! It looks like their sales group, IM Global has gotten Max Steel pre-sales all over most of Europe and Southeast Asia.  In fact they are so popular, I’ve heard the casting department has gotten calls from Taiwan begging to be in the movie, saying they would fly in and work for free.  Isn’t that crazy!

Under the Dome is at Greenfield Lake Park (main playground area) Union Station and N 4th.  Max Steel is off today.  Sleepy Hollow is off due to the Upfronts.

Martha De Laurentiis spent her weekend in Wrightsville Beach this weekend.  It was so nice to know she still loves this town considering what she helped build here with Dino.  I know she still has a house here, now if we can get this lovely lady to bring us Hannibal, everything will be just fine 🙂

From Revolution to Red Zone: Graham Rogers is Back!

by April Vickery and Sheila Brothers

‘REDZONE’ is on a roll today! We are so pleased to add Graham Rogers to the cast!

Graham_SheilaGraham is known to us in Wilmywood for his role of “Danny Matheson” on ‘REVOLUTION.’  Pictured, he was really involved in the  Wilmywood community as he and his other cast members David Lyons and Tim Guinee helped us during the Sunny 104.5 Caring for Kids Radiothon for NHRMC a couple of years ago.  They even let us give them flu shots!   You probably also saw him play the role “Carson” in the film ‘CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR‘ with fellow hearththrob Nick Jonas.

Graham will be playing the role of “Jake” in ‘REDZONE‘.

Graham is a powerful actor and leading man these days, but will always hold a place in my heart as the cute boy who shouts, ‘Can I get a hot tub?!’ in the State Farm ads.

As always, we are glad to have Graham’s energy and contagious smile in Wilmywood!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 09/16/2013 Thom Tillis, NC Film Emmy Winners, tonight’s BIG night and more.

ThomTillisNorth Carolina State Rep Thom Tillis spoke at a picnic for Republicans over the weekend and weighed in on the film incentives. WECT has him quoted saying:

“I believe the film industry is critical to Wilmington, it’s critical in Charlotte, it’s growing in Ashville.  We’ve got to figure out a way to make sure that North Carolina’s competitive.  I think there’s a way to continue to move forward with tax reform but make absolutely certain that North Carolina is the go-to place for the film industry for productions and all the other good jobs that come with it,”

The 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards isn’t until next week, but there were nearly 80 awards presented at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony yesterday (Sept. 15) at the Nokia Theatre in LA. A two-hour, edited version will air Saturday, September 21st on FXX.  We have some NC Film winners!

Second how about some mad kudos to our man Jeff Wolfe for Outstanding Stunt Coordination For A Drama Series, Miniseries Or Movie – Our Stunt Coordinator killed it for “Revolution!”

Episode 3 of NBC‘s powerless show was remembered by these crazy two over the weekend.  I have to say I laughed when I saw these shots on Facebook this weekend.  We lost a location as Sticky Fingers is no more and apparently members of the Militia had to express there feelings about it!

The ‘rebel hideout’ where the Monroe Militia first captured Miles Matheson has been reduced to rubble…

UTD4I had the honor of speaking with Jolene Purdy who plays Dodee on Under the Dome over the weekend.  I will have the complete interview posted in a separate blog which should be up by lunch time.  SPOILER ALERT!  If you haven’t seen episode 12, don’t listen!  It does reveal a big plot point that you wanna see before you listen to the interview!

UTD_ScriptThe auction is underway for those great autographed items from some awesome Wilmington Productions including:  Tammy, The Conjuring, Sleepy Hollow, Under the Dome and even a Screen Gems Experience with a 2 Night Hotel stay!  All proceeds go to this year’s Sunny 104.5 Caring for Kids at NHRMC Radiothon!  BID NOW!

Under the Dome was not only the winner in its time slot but easily took the whole night with 10.71 million viewers.  TV By The Numbers reports:

On CBS, with the Time Warner carriage dispute finally resolved, Under the Dome earned a 2.6, up a tenth from last week’s 2.5 adults 18-49 rating. It’s impossible to say whether the restoration of CBS to TWC customers in 3 markets was responsible for the rise.

Encore Magazine wrote an article yesterday that is a fantastic read about the film incentives and those affected by it. Check it out.

And oooh my goodness, look at what’s arrived!!!! The trailer is here!  Eastbound and Down Season 4!

IMAG0404I had the honor of hanging out on Stage 10, the dream stage of Sleepy Hollow for a bit as our London correspondent, Lauren Watt, is in town.  Let’s just say I was geeking out probably more than she and her mate was!  Major kudos to the crew the production grabbed.  Solid.  If you know me by now, you know there was a major hug fest going on yesterday!    I LOVE OUR NC CREW SO MUCH!  Mad talent! Stage 10 by far is the most beautiful multi-set I have ever seen.  And of course they have also taken over other sound stages as well as the back lot!  Let’s hope Fox is here to stay for a long time.  If the pilot is any indication of how good the show will be, we will have ourselves a long time to love them.  The series premieres September 16th on Fox!

Sleepy Hollow has two units running today. They will be back on stage 10 today and the 2nd unit will be doing some driving scenes on MLK Parkway (23rd St. ramp to N. Kerr intersection).

The Dempsey Sisters wrapped yesterday in Brunswick Forest.

NBC’s Revolution Season One is now out on DVD and Blue Ray as well as digital download!  Get yourself a piece of Wilmington Film History 🙂

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 05/13/2013 – VIP Afterglow, Bob Guiney, Scott Grimes,Tammy, and more

What a mixed weekend!  Great times were had during the Port City Pop Con.  A HUGE thank you to Mike Roberts for putting on the event with stars everywhere! They were so kind and just about all of them said the same about Wilmington.  “Everyone is so nice here”!  Yeah, we know, that’s one of the reasons why we choose to live here! The Con included VIP meet n greets and a VIP Afterglow at the Calico Room downtown.

GuineyandGrimesThe highlight of the VIP party had to be Bob Guiney and Scott GrimesGuiney and Grimes put on an amazing duo acoustic performance.  We had Dee Wallace  and Ernie Hudson in the front of the crowd completely enjoying the performance.  FYI – they are the sweetest people in the world!  I really hope I get to stay in touch with those folks. Make sure you check out today’s podcast, I have a clip from Saturday night at the Calico Room on Front Street.  They also performed their original, “I’m Goin Home”  It’s a great song and is available for FREE on Sound Cloud!

The news of NBC’s Revolution moving to Austin, TX got some people down this weekend, and some outraged, blaming it on the politicians.  While I can appreciate the spirit and love for NC Film, I can tell you, they didn’t move for that reason.  The storyline is moving and with that so do the locations.  I will definitely miss the cast, but I believe it is not necessarily a bad thing.  This gives room for productions that were pushed back to come to ILM sooner as crew members become available to them.  All my NC Film industry peeps, I would love to hear your thoughts about my take on it.  Lemme know what you think by commenting below!

Now moving on to the productions that are still here.  The Perfect Summer welcomes American Idol’s Jason Castro to his first day on set!  They will be at Aussie Island Surf Shop in Wrightsville Beach.  Jason plays a laid back surf shop owner.

Under the Dome is still in Burgaw and Tammy is back on Nun St. again today!  Melissa McCarthy, Susan Sarandon and Toni Collette will be on set.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  email me:  Until then, that’s a wrap!

NBC Renews 5 Dramas including Revolution

Christmas comes early folks~!  We got ourselves a season two!  And if all goes according to what my sources tell me, it will come back to Wilmington.  I sure hope they are right!  I asked cast member Tim Guinee his thoughts and he said, “Over the moon about it.  I’m really grateful that the hardest working cast and crew in the business is getting another shot.  Yay ILM!”

Read the entire article from The Hollywood Reporter – “From J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV, Revolution ranks as NBC’s top scripted drama across all of primetime — averaging more than 6 million viewers in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic.”

The story continues as they link part of Revolution’s success to having The Voice as a lead-in on Monday nights this season.  Regardless of coming back from a mid-season break slightly down in the numbers, they say it is still very much a success for the 2012-13 TV season.

Thank you NBC and Bad Robot because we sure love having Revolution film here in Wilmington, NC!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 04/25/2013 Fox TV brings more jobs, Revolution’s return and more

I really hope that all the representatives and other politicians across the state read my blog because I am kicking it off with something to remind them of what the film industry does for our area. The Fox Network’s Wild Blue is bring more action here in the area, but more importantly a HUGE budget.  My sources tell me it’s one of the most expensive TV pilot’s in history with a budget of $15 million.  A few weeks ago, we know they were scouting the Coty Inc. plant in Rocky Point.  I cannot confirm whether they will indeed use that location as other sources tell me they will be taking over an old out of business yacht building company. The best part, of course, with that big budget is JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!  They will be employing a lot of people.

I was told they plan to completely replicate the top deck on an aircraft carrier.  Then, they will digitally put in the ocean in post.  That is great news for construction workers, i.e carpenters, painters, electricians, and the many vendors they will need supplies from!  Pre-production could begin as early as this Monday.  Thank you Fox! Fox’s Wild Blue is about a group of men and women working aboard a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier.  It stars Mykelti Williamson (Bubba of Forrest Gump) as Master Chief Donald Bowman along with Josh SalatinWill RothhaarAlano Miller and Gina Rodriguez.

Now let’s move on to NBC.  We have waited patiently for official word on two things about our beloved show, Revolution. 1) Is there a season two? and 2) Will they return to Wilmington?  Wanna know what my reliable sources tell me?  How about yes and yes!  Let’s hope my peeps are right about this!   Official word is supposed to come out May 13th.  Plus, if you remember,  the cast LOVES Wilmington.  They all said they did not want to relocate. I don’t blame them.  With beach season approaching fast, who wants to be stuck in a major city with no sea breeze?

The Vampire Diaries airs on the CW tonight.  Don’t forget to be on the look out for our local boy, Scott Parks who plays the evil Silas!

And on a final note, who’s ready for Port City Pop Con?  Check out this spot for the convention by Joe Stauffer.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am live on Sunny 104.5.  Got scoop?  email me:  Until then, that’s a wrap!

THIS JUST IN: Eastbound and Down officially opened offices this morning for Season 4! Welcome back!

The cast and crew celebrated their first season of NBC’s Revolution with a wrap party at good old Ten Pin Alley.

As they fly out of town, we all wait for word whether there will be a season two and if they will stay here or head to Charlotte.

Under the Dome is shootin in Burgaw today, but they will be back in Wilmington tomorrow at the Greenfield Skate Park and Halyburton Park.

Still waiting on word about another TV pilot looking to shoot here in June and about the BIG feature coming in late May.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am.  Make sure to post your comments below.  Gotta Wilmywood tip, rumor or fun story while on set?  Email me:  All sources will remain anonymous.

Until then, that’s a wrap!

Me and cutie David Lyons

Will NBC’s Revolution will stay here or not?  That’s still a 50/50 split.  Especially between the cast and production team.  The AWESOME cast, of course, wants to stay! The production team wants to move to Charlotte.  Beach season is around the corner people!  Let the cast and crew enjoy the coast for another season!

**UPDATE: Revolution is shooting at the Water St./ Parking Deck tonight.

Under the Dome will be on the lot for the first half of the day, then head to Chestnut St.  in the evening.

The Melissa McCarthy movie, Tammy’s start date, earlier reported to be May 6th, might get pushed to May 9th or later.

On to the swirling rumors.  My favorite part.  My sources tell me there’s apparently another TV pilot looking to shoot here in June for 3 weeks. All but 3 days would be shot on the lot.

My sources are also hearing rumors about another really BIG feature coming in late May, but don’t have any details. Yet, that is!  Haha!

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you Monday morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am.  Until then, that’s a wrap!

Okay, starting off with two quick things.  Our local boys Tom and Mike Gossin from Gloriana will be on Jay Leno tonight!  And Under the Dome is filming on the lot today, so seeing your favorite stars is unlikely.  At least on set.

A lot of you wonder, if there are so many movies and TV show filming here, how come you never see any of the stars?  Well, you can spot Hollywood celebrities all over the city, IF you know where to look.  Or eat for that matter.  And these stars must immediately get the scoop on where to eat in town because most of these restaurants are local favorites.

Actor Tim Guinee from NBC’s Revolution told me one of his favorites was “Manna” (123 Princess St.) in downtown Wilmington.  If fact, the entire Revolution cast can agree on “Manna.”  Tim also said he really enjoys the “Flying Pi Kitchen” (402 Chestnut St.) just down the street.

Brunch at “The Basics” (319 N Front St) is a MUST downtown for the stars especially the day after a long overnight shoot!  If you drive just outside of downtown you will find a restaurant called, “Rx” ( 421 Castle St.).  This seems to be one the favorites for cast members of Under the Dome.

Sushi is also a common favorite among the stars.  And three local hot spots made Hollywood taste buds sing!  If you remember not long ago, “Yo Sake” ( 31 South Front Street) was practically a second home to the cast of One Tree Hill.  “Nikki’s” downtown location ( 221 N Front St.) is another hot spot as well as popular for sushi TO GO!

Not all the favorites were in the downtown area, however.  Director Casey LaScala (The Remaining/Donnie Darko) enjoyed heading to the Wrightsville Beach area.  He was a regular at the “Bento Box” (1121 Military Cutoff Rd.).

Actor Dean Norris as well as actresses, Rachelle LeFevre and Sharon Lawrence all agree that  local favorite “Catch” (6623 Market St) is a MUST DINE restaurant.  Then again, when you have a chef like Keith Rhodes, who wouldn’t LOVE IT!  If you missed it, check him out on Season 9 of Bravo’s Top Chef!  Rachelle, by the way, is also a fan of “Dixie Grill” (116 Market St.) & she says the best Sunday fried chicken is at “Cracker Barrel” (21 Van Campen Blvd).

Where have you seen the stars dining?  Post your comments below.  I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am.  Also,  gotta good Thai recipe?  post it below! Until then, that’s a wrap!
