Even though there are a few more additional days of filming, The Longest Ride had their wrap party this weekend in Elkin, NC at a place called 222 conveniently located a 222 East Main St.

800px-Elkin_NC_DowntownThe people were so friendly, the music was great, and the food was delicious,” said one crew member. Local party buses were hired and took the crew to and from the party from the hotels so they didn’t have to drive.

“The landscape beauty, coupled with the welcoming spirit from the local folks in Winston-Salem, Dobson and Elkin made for very pleasant filmmaking during the last couple of weeks of The Longest Ride,” another crew member said. “Many of us are looking forward to return to both locations with our families for a little vacation. I really want my kids to see these places.”

ICYMI: Our friends from WGSR in Greensboro headed over there to see how the folks in the town feel about The Longest Ride shooting there.  They get extra brownie points for using a drone for some of their gorgeous shots! A great piece! SEE VIDEO NOW.

The Longest Ride heads back to the farm again today in Dobson.

PravdaOkay, I am so excited about Sleepy Hollow filming at my FAVORITE club(s) downtown. They will be over at Pravda/Sputnik today and they got a packed club with over 120 hip background actors. Now I can’t tell you who is in this scene, however, can you imagine Ichabod Crane’s reaction to music and dancing in 2014? Baaahahahaaa.

ABC’s Secrets & Lies shoots in their hood again today in Porter’s Neck.

FILM INCENTIVES UPDATE: The General Assembly is more interested in kicking the can down the road or completely ignoring sustaining jobs and job creation.

From what I am hearing, things don’t look so well for NC Film. It isn’t over until the final gavel hits, however, unless something drastic comes to light, I am being told that they will be adjourning sine die on Friday (sine die is an adjournment until the next session), with film not even on the list.  GET MORE DETAILS NOW

We will still be quite busy this year with Bolden!, Yellow Footprints and The Choice going into production next month, but come 2015, we won’t have enough money to sustain more than 3 decent projects statewide. As it stands right now, productions can’t even apply for the grant until 2015, so it’s gonna be very dry in the New Year.

With that being said, here’s a reminder:

The Longest Ride receives big welcome from Elkin, NC.

We all know that small businesses benefit in a huge way when any film production rolls into a location.  And the town of Elkin, NC was armed and ready.

Elkin rests on the Yadkin River in Surry and Wilkes counties.  The population is around 4,000 and is 6.2 square miles. It has been deemed one of the coolest town’s in America. Seriously, look how adorable this town is: http://www.downtownelkin.com/

As the cast and crew of The Longest Ride headed 40 miles to the west of Winston-Salam, they had no idea just how charming the people were as well.  When they arrived at their hotel, they got quite a warm welcome.

The hotel greeted the production with a catered reception provided by a local eatery – they had a buffet, with hors d’oeuvres, wine and other snacks.

TotebagI was told the owners were so excited about them coming to town and choosing their hotel, that they wanted everything to be perfect for their week and a half stay.

The hotel had replaced all of the in-room furniture just for them, and upon arrival the cast and crew were handed totebags with goodies and info about the local attractions and businesses.

One of the crew members said, “Everyone in town has been so welcoming, and we’re very excited to spend our free time, and per diem, at many of the local businesses.”

The cast and crew are in multiple hotels and are enjoying the beginning of their stay.

NC Film – everyone benefits.

    WILMYWOOD CELEB DISH

220px-28_Days_PosterThe Highest Earning Actresses From the Past Year according to Forbes have some North Carolina ties.  The top four in fact.
Sandra Bullock, who left East Carolina University only three credits short of graduating to pursue an acting career is the top breadwinner earning $51 million last year.  She was here in NC  for the flick 28 Days as well as Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood.  Others on the list:
Jennifer Lawrence … $34 million (Hunger Games)
Jennifer Aniston … $31 million. (We’re the Millers)
Gwyneth Paltrow … $19 million (Iron Man 3)

I suppose that’s why Gwyneth can afford just about anything, like Thermage laser treatments. She tells Hello! magazine “It’s non-invasive but it’s quite painful, like having your face smacked with a rubber band that has an electric shock in it. But it works.” Each treatment costs $5,240.

susan cfrgThe NY Post claims thieves broke into Susan Sarandon‘s Manhattan apartment on Saturday and stole a laptop, a camera, jewelry and documents. A burglar used a ladder to jump from one roof to the next before entering Susan’s home through a terrace door.

lindseyThe Sun claims Lindsay Lohan is planning to write her autobiography. A source tells the paper: “Lindsay held meetings at major publishing houses in London recently — and the stories she promised the literary agents made their jaws drop. She’s prepared to put everything out there and has already proved she’s not shy with the list of men she claims to have slept with. Lindsay is now looking for a ghost writer. It may seem unlikely, but she thinks she’s in with a shot of getting EL James to work on it — they met recently at [London nightspot] Chiltern Firehouse and got on well. Another pie in the sky idea was that she might persuade JK Rowling to work with her.” Hmmm, we shall see.

Finally some news on The Devil’s Hand. Well, we know it as The Devil’s Rapture and also as Where the Devil Hides. The Wilmywood shot flick which came here in 2012 will not see a theatrical release, how ever it will be on a small screen near you. Expect to see this horror flick on VOD, EST, DVD and other TV platforms on October 10th. The movie stars Rufus Sewell, Alycia Debnam Carey, Adelaide Kane, Leah Pipes, Thomas McDonell and “Dexter” fav Jennifer Carpenter.

The flick is about something evil that runs amuck in the small village of New Bethlehem where six girls who were born on the same day by six different mothers begin to mysteriously disappear on the eve of their 18th birthday. Is it a serial killer, one of the village elders or a horrific prophecy come true?

Solomon finished 4th and he’s headed to the finals in Las Vegas which will air August 11th on NBC.  Congrats Solomon!

FILM INCENTIVES:  Is no news good news?  Not much to report. They have two options right now.  The grant program or an extension of our current incentives.  I am still praying for that Hail Mary pass which will depend on which strategy they choose.  They are all thinking about the upcoming elections, so I am remaining positive that our film incentives will survive.  The NCGA will be discussing HB 1224 tomorrow (which includes the new incentives that they call the job catalyst fund).  Perhaps while no decision has been made we can remind folks about just how much money is being brought into the state via film this year: NC FILM – MID-YEAR ESTIMATES FOR 2014: $268 MILLION IN SPENDING, 19,000 JOB OPPORTUNITIES .
