THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 08/07/2014 The Politics of Film, TMNT Throwback, Sleepy Hollow and more.

Darkness, they say, has settled over New York City, however, the lights dimmed first at our very own EUE/Screen Gems as Shredder and his evil minions had their way.  As we gear up for the reboot in theaters this week for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we in Wilmington feel a lot pride pride knowing if if wasn’t for our turtles the box office would be eager for some other movie to hit theaters this weekend.

So, a perfect throw back Thursday for some TMNT love.  Thanks to stunt man Jimmie Lee Sessoms (left TMNT II / 1990) for the photos from TMNT and of course the second one, Secret of the Ooze. Now, Hunter over at the Star News did an amazing article you MUST read.  It takes you back with the local crew members who worked on it including Robbie Beck and Jeff Goodwin.  READ NOW.

Now, yesterday was an incredible shoot!  Sleepy Hollow put on quite a show on Orange St.  Tonight they head just down the way to the Cape Fear Club. Expect to hear some rapid fire prop guns and prop grenade blast noise as well.

Secrets & Lies heads to Masonboro Baptist Church Cemetery.

It’s day 38 of 46 for The Longest Ride and they are back at the Coliseum today in Winston-Salem.

tomMison_IchabodTom Mison has made EW’s list of 25 Best Characters on TV Right Now. Well, Ichabod Crane has. Coming in at #7, EW says that Sleepy Hollow combines the “deductive brilliance of Sherlock with the out-of-this-world humanism of Doctor Who’s Time Lord.”  SEE WHO ELSE MADE THE LIST!

JamesVB2Our beloved Dawson, who starred in CBS’s short-lived comedy Friends With Better Lives, is back in the game.  He’s got himself a series regular spot on CSI: Cyber, which is a CSI: Crime Scene Investigation spinoff . THR says James Van Der Beek will play FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, an expert in battlefield forensics and a savant when it comes to weaponry, vehicles and bombs. READ MORE NOW

ICYMI:   Nelsan Ellis is joining the cast of Dan Pritzker’s Bolden!, our Jazz biopic that’s been in and out of Wilmywood since 2007. Along with Gary Carr taking on the title role, Ian McShane (who we scooped last month) is playing Judge Perry, Deadline confirms and now we know that award-winning actor Nelsan Ellis will play the role of Bartley, the Bolden Band manager. REMINDER: The gang from the Wilmington Film Museum is meeting tonight at 7 PM at Giant, 1200 N 23rd Street #209.  The meeting is open to the public, so if you have any great ideas to share, head on over there tonight.

THE POLITICS OF FILM – UPDATE:  Well more like, what’s happening Under our Dome.  Yesterday, a skeleton session for the House did what we expected, they adjourned as soon as they convened.  And it looks like they will do it again– Thursday at 9:30 a.m for The Senate and Sunday at 4:30 p.m for the House. They will return, Thursday, August 14th for a full session.  This is when they would take on 763, IF they decide to. Let’s hope so.  That being said, they can do just about anything between now and then.  We don’t want them to kick the can on 763 to November like they want to do with Medicaid.  It’s impossible, but unlikely.  There is too much at stake with 763 and what’s in it.

Since yesterday, we have learned:

Art Pope is resigning as the NC Budget Director and Cokie Roberts’ son Lee will take his place.  Pope leaves Sept. 5th.  If you remember, Pope said he would be the budget director for one year for the cost of $1.  His one year term is up. READ MORE

Also, read Ben Brown’s overview of Lee Roberts over at the News & Observer.

Although Sen. Bill Rabon voted in favor of taking out the film incentive extension language and tax credits for historic preservation from 763 last week, he now says he still favors the inclusion of film incentives. [STATE PORT PILOT]

Most folks think Michael Lee will take Thom Goolsby’s Senate seat, even though there are other unnamed folks also in consideration.  We will find out more details on Tuesday.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning (unless something breaks) and every weekday morning we do “What’s Up in Wilmywood” at 7:30am & 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  And on Thursdays during Cape Fear CW‘s Primetime News at 10!  Got Scoop?  Email me:  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB  or on Twitter You can also just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!!

SATURDAY NIGHT : Win a Meet n Greet with Tom Mison, autographed Under the Dome/Sleepy Hollow Gear

We have a very special fundraiser for the adorable 3 year old, Sadie Hulsey.  She is the granddaughter of our own, Wilmywood crew member, Kirk Smith.

Sadie was diagnosed with (JMML) Juvenile Leukemia at just 17 months old, which is as devastating emotionally as it is financially.

We are coming together as a film community to support one of our own.  So, please join us Saturday, June 28th at Courts and Sports (3525 Lancelot Ln) beginning at 6pm.   We will have live music from The Polar Bear Blues Band and admission is free.

There are a ton of raffle prizes including: an original oil painting by Wilmington artist Doug Campbell, several B&W signed etchings by Christopher Alexander.

tomMison_IchabodAutographed Sleepy Hollow and Under the Dome merchandise (shirts, baseball caps, posters) signed by our favorite Wilmywood stars including Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie and many others. Raffle tickets are 1 FOR $5 OR 5 FOR $20.

And the biggun!!  We will be auctioning off a MEET N GREET with Tom Mison.  Yep!  Ichabod Crane himself. And guess who the auctioneer will be?  The one and only EP/Director of Sleepy Hollow,  Ken Olin!!

The monies raised on this night will be used to assist Sadie’s family in off setting expenses incurred with the treatment of Juvenile Leukemia, which has included a bone marrow transplant. Sadie has weekly treatments and check up appointments in Chapel Hill, the doctors want her to be close by as her condition can change rapidly, so out of necessity Sadie, her mother, and sister live in an apartment in Chapel Hill (which has its own costs of food, rent, and utilities) while the family still maintains a separate home in Wilmington. Sadie’s father travels every weekend to and from Chapel Hill to be with her, so there is the high cost of fuel as well. All the above, plus medical expenses have put a strain on this young family’s finances. With your support we can make this journey a whole lot easier for their family.

Courts and Sports as part of their F.I.L.M. Industry Night, will be giving all people involved in the film industry a discount on food and drink. Showing their unwavering support for the people in film industry and their families, in addition to sponsoring the event, they have also graciously offered to donate 10% of their net proceeds from the night to Sadie’s family!

Your “Favorite Food GURU” Reva and Executive Chef Andrew will be pouring the cocktails along with your “Hairstylist Extraordinaire” JoJo.

Cornhole, VOLLEYPong, Volleyball, and Bocce ball will be your activities for the evening. So come eat, drink, be merry, buy raffle tickets, and save a child’s life.

Lets all help the family take their focus off of the finances and focus on what is really important…this little girl Sadie the joy that she brings to this world.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 01/15/2014 Michael Cera/John Hawkes Coming to Wilmywood, Sleepy Hollow, and more!

michael-cera-john-hawkesGoood Morning!  Hope you are having a pleasant one!  Man, what a week for breaking Wilmywood news!!  Yesterday afternoon, we got word that FX is bringing us the pilot “How and Why.”  The production will be set up at EUE/Screen Gems Studios by this Spring.  Look for Michael Cera and John Hawkes around town in the next few months!  A lot of Wilmywood folks met John Hawkes when he was on Eastbound & Down last year and are VERY excited to have him back!

Charlie-KaufmanThey have been signed to star in this comedy pilot which is coming from Charlie Kaufman.  The pilot will focus on Goodman Hesselman (John Hawkes)  who is the host of a children’s science show called “How and Why.”  But he is one of those book smart kinda guys with no people skills what so ever!  He is forced to start over, move to a small town, doing a completely different TV show and working for a much younger boss (Michael Cera).  As Deadline puts it, “things get awry when Hesselman encounters elements of the supernatural world during this new excursion.”  Yep, sounds like the autobiography of every news anchor I know in Wilmywood.  Perfect fit FX!

Meanwhile, FX also announced yesterday our North Carolina boy Zach Galifinakis is also going to star in a new FX comedy series co-written by Louis CK.  Congrats Zach!

RobertdowneyJrDid you know that our beloved Iron Man, Robert Downey, Jr. can sing?  He was on stage at a Sting concert and he sung the classic, “Driven To Tears”  Listen to THIS!! Yep, that is RDJ singing!  Wow!  You go boy!

Now on with a little Sleepy Hollow fun.  The ratings stayed flat, no adjustments with a 2.2 /6 among A18-49 w/ 6.4 million viewers.  When they factor in the DVR numbers, it will sky rocket per usual. Here’s what’s in store for us this Monday night!

Oh yeah!  Can’t wait!  Now, if you missed my interview with Tom Mison yesterday:  CHECK IT OUT NOW!

SPOILER ALERT: During those short 4 minutes, Tom did give us some intel about Nick Gonzalez‘s character, Detective Luke Morales.  He will be back for season two.
