WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 09/30/2013, Matt is back, The Squeeze and more.

homelandHappy Monday! Last night was an NC double header with the Charlotte shot (and might I add Emmy winning) Season 3 of Homeland on Showtime followed by our own Eastbound and Down, Season 4, the final season. I know it was hard on a lot of folks who just HAD to watch Breaking Bad!

MattLintzSleepy Hollow is welcoming back on set today, Matt Lintz. Mackenzie Lintz (Norrie, Under the Dome)’s little bro is holding his own and from what his mom told me a while back, he has actually had more acting gigs in Wilmington than any of the Lintz’ family members. Awesome Matt! We love having you here! The Sleepyheads will be shooting on the lot today. And of course, episode 3 is happenin’ tonight at 9pm on Fox and it’s all about the Sandman!

I asked Nick Gonzales (Dect. Luke Morales) about what we can expect tonight and he said, ” It’s all fun and games tonite on Sleepy Hollow until Capt. Irving gets his way.”  Hmmm, vague yet mysterious!  Here’s a sneak peek:

CUCALORUSCongratulations to the Cucalorus folks. They exceeded their Kickstarter goal of 23k with $24,108! The festival kicks off November 13th and runs through the 17th.

alisaHarrisWECT reported  Jane McNeill and Anthony Reynolds, two Wilmington-based actors, both landed roles in the Hugh Jackman flick Prisoners.  Well, there is one more to add!  The fabulous Alisa Harris is also on that list!  As you can see she played the Police Clerk in the flick.  If you saw the movie, lemme know if you spotted the pretty lady!  She said she didn’t get to scream like she did in Witches of East End while playing the Frantic Woman, but  she did make Jake Gyllenhaal jump a little.  LOL Awesome Alisa!

Executive Producer George Parra is opening up offices at Screen Gems today for the golf loving family film, The Squeeze. They should begin principal photography in about 3 weeks.

Crackerjack AirstreamLook what made it into Wilmywood this weekend as we gear up for the VIP screening of Crackerjack!  It was spotted in the Bayshore area of Wilmywood!  I will have tickets to give away to the VIP screening of  Crackerjack (Art Within Productions/Modest) during the “Crackerjack Road Less Graveled Movie Tour.”  The film opens at the Regal Mayfaire 16 on October 11th, with an invitation-only V.I.P. screening on October 10th.  The PG-13 rated film stars Wes Murphy and Bethany Anne Lind and narrated by Jeff Foxworthy.  He is also the Executive Producer. The film was shot in Savannah, GA.  MORE DETAILS TO COME.

Finally, we got a Wilmywood party tomorrow night at Shell Island Resort in Wrightsville Beach from 6-9pm.  I will be bartending and all my tips will go to Canines for Service!  Hope you can make it.  Gonna be super fun!

100MEDIA_IMAG0358River Guard is filming on 42nd St today. Actually they’ve been shooting since 4:30am!  Yuk!

Christmas in Conway is back in Forest Hills again.  WECT got a hold of a couple of great tidbits.  Mary-Louise Parker stopped by the Dr. Robert M. Fales Hospice Pavilion in Wilmington this weekend to get a better understanding of hospice while she works on the Hallmark movie READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE NOW

logo_onwhite-350And it’s back!  The 3rd annual Dirty Dancing Festival is this Saturday in Lake Lure, NC where a lot of the film was shot.  The money raised from the festival will go to the fight against pancreatic cancer, the very same form of cancer that killed Patrick Swayze.

martysiuAnd finally, sorry I didn’t get to this earlier but CONGRATS to Marty Siu!  Our local girl is the official extras casting director for the next Spongebob movie, to be filmed in Savannah, GA during the month of October.  This will be the sequel.  They are mixing live action with animation.  PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT YET.  Marty will let us know when she is ready!  But you can give her major kudos for getting the gig!  Wish it was here, but hey, we love our Marty!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 08/08/2013 – EBD, UTD Piracy, Sleepy Hollow and more

sleepyThings are heating up on Sleepy Hollow today.  After a Police officer pulls a car over, a witch sets the car on fire and it explodes!  Okay, this show is getting fun!  They will be shooting this scene right beside Screen Gems.   Don’t forget to vote today for Wilmington to have an early screening of Sleepy Hollow! We need 140 to get into 2nd place.  I know we have more people in this town that love the film industry in this town! So, come on!  It takes less than 60 seconds to vote! The contest ends August 19th.

If you hear shots being fired in the downtown area, chances are you won’t have to worry.  It’s just Eastbound and Down downtown filming.  They will be on S. Front St, Betten Court Alley, 2nd St.  I would still duck and cover cuz lately, people are cray!

Christmas in Conway goes back for some more Ferris wheel fun on Forest Hills Drive.

River Guard is back at the courthouse on Princess St for Day 3 of the courtroom scenes. I think my favorite actor on set beside Eric Ladin, has got to be Peter Jason.  It’s really hot in the courtroom (gotta keep the AC off for sound)  Yesterday, when he took his judge’s robe off during a quick break, he was sporting a white shirt and tie with black shorts and pink shoes.  Hilarious!  He is just so fun and goofy!  Everyone LOVES him!  Also, pictured is local boy, Ben Yemba, best Bailiff ever! Ha!

under-the-dome-cbsPiracy rates are up for Under the Dome about 4% since the TWC/CBS dispute and black out in some major cities.  Wow!  That’s some dedicated fans!  “We will watch no matter the cost!”  Okay, I jest, it’s not a good thing, but is does seem like people are desperate.  Why can’t they just watch it on Hulu or CBS.com?  Anywho read the whole Variety article now!

AdrenalineI am glad WECT tweeted this because it reminded me to remind you that the folks making the movie Adrenaline have a Kickstarter campaign that has only 7 days left to raise all of their $45,000.  The film stars  John Schneider(Dukes of Hazard, Smallville) along with local boy Michael Rosander and Mike Holmes.  They’ve already shot more than 65% of the flick.  I donated about a month ago.  So, get on it!  Even if its just a couple of bucks, every bit helps! DONATE NOW!

werethemillersswagHave you seen the most awesome swag we gave to give away? THANK YOU CARMIKE CINEMAS!!! I will have more to give away tomorrow morning at 8:30am during What’s Up in Wilmywood on Sunny 104.5! We’re the Millers tickets and swag to give away thanks to Carmike Cinemas! WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 07/16/2013 – Another star comes to Wilmywood, new ratings for UTD Pilot, Peter Jurasik and more.

Tuesday.  Man, Tuesdays officially make me crazy, now.  Thanks Under the Dome!  I always begin writing this blog at the buttcrack of dawn and then it never seems to be complete because Tuesdays are ratings day.  I sit here all antcy in my pantcy waiting for 11am EST to come!  Argh!  Well, such is life.  But we did get this in at six this morning.  Remember we had the pilot numbers at like 16.7 million.  Well they adjusted up!  AGAIN! Check out what CBS sent us this morning:

“UNDER THE DOME” PREMIERE BUILDS TO 17.76 MILLION VIEWERS WITH LIVE PLUS 7-DAY DVR PLAYBACK
Viewers +31%, Adults 25-54 +36% and Adults 18-49 +39%
With Live Plus 7-Day DVR Playback From Live Plus Same Day Averages.
The series premiere of UNDER THE DOME surged to 17.76 million Viewers with 7-day DVR playback, according to Nielsen live plus 7-day ratings for Monday, June 24 (10-11PM ET/PT).
Live + 7-day DVR playback for the premiere of UNDER THE DOME added:

> +1.3 rating points in Adults 18-49 (4.6 from 3.3, +39%)….
….from live plus same day results.

Another great episode last night the UTD folks we tweeting like mad.  I would like to especially point out that pig can now fly.  Yep, Alex Koch(Junior), who refuses to have a twitter account, is officially a half twit!  Jolene Purdy(Dodee) convinced him to LIVE tweet with her!  That woman has super powers!  I love her so much!!

UTD Script

Oh, and look what I got my hands on!  How would you like to own a piece of Under the Dome?  It could be your coming this September because we are gonna auction this beautiful autographed script during the Sunny 104.5 Caring for Kids at NHRMC Radiothon to benefit the new hospitality house.  More details to come!

WECT leaked the news yesterday.  Mary-Louise Parker will be our next star to head into Wilmywood  as Hallmark gets ready to roll for the TV movie, Christmas in Conway.  Production Begins August 5th.  We have some great local crew working on this one, including Emmy Young who was named as the Extras Casting Director last week.  Oh and FYI, Mary-Louise Parker will be on Kelly & Michael this morning.

peter jurasikOut on DVD today is 42.  You can see our very own amazing, Peter Jurasik.  I asked Peter when the movie was released what it was like to play such a controversial role, a racist in the movie 42.

“There is nothing more difficult in the process of playing a racist than playing anything else that you might have to play but have not experienced firsthand… like playing a homeless person or a less ( or more ) educated person than you — or in more extreme examples, playing a murderer, a pedophile, a abuser ( of drugs, alcohol, women ) or a terrorist. — I have tried to control people in my life, I have humiliated or belittled people in my life ( not proud of it, but true ). The actor takes the truth of his own experiences that intersect or cross with the experiences of the role as written… and if you can ‘ mix ‘ the two careful, you come up with a third entity called the character. A character who looks and sounds like you — whose emotions are fueled by your own experiences but speaks and acts like the person the author created when it was written. — Voila, I’m a racist.”

Very well said, Peter. You are a blessing to everyone in this community!

Looks like Eastbound and Down is taking over the fun parts of Oleander Drive.  The cast and crew heads over to Jellybeans today.  There will be over 100 extras in the skating rink.  With seven of the cast members, it looks to be a really fun day.

The Conjuring was shot here last year and it has finally arrived!  The reviews have been coming in for weeks now and the consensus is: THIS MOVIE IS GREAT AND WILL SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF YOU!  Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.  It’s based on the true story, so that always helps the fear factor.  I can’t wait!  It opens this Friday!  A lot of local actors landed some roles in this flick, so it gives us even more of a reason to see it.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every weekday morning at 7:30am & 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Or just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 07/02/2013 – Christmas comes early in Wilmywood!

Hallmark Movie Channel

Another movie coming to Wilmington would be like Christmas coming early, right?  Well, according to my sources, it is.  And they have the offices to prove it. The Hallmark Movie, Christmas in Conway has set up shop at the 1200 building on 23rd St.  They’ve been scouting around the area including downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods.  Brent Shields is Executive Producer, John Kent Harrison is directing, Ronnie Yeskel and Sharon Howard-Field are doing principal castingI will keep you posted!

Well, yesterday I found out tours for Screen Gems won’t happen as soon as August, in fact it is still TBD at the moment, BUT there are BIG PLANS FOR THE BACKLOT – and it’s going to be HUGE!  Looks like 17+ buildings going up recreating colonial times for Sleep Hollow!  This will Screen Gemsbe the biggest set we have had yet on the back lot at Screen Gems!  And you know what that means?  It means money in our vendor’s pockets!  Paint stores, lumber, hardware, you name it!  Keep the Wilmington economy going, Sleepy Hollow!!  Production begins at the end of the month.

WECT picked up on this fun story!  27 year old Rachel Spalding will be one of 16 cast members on a new reality show called Summer Camp on USA Network.  They will compete for a chance to win $250,000.  The show premieres Thursday, July 11 at 8 p.m

While, I am waiting rather impatiently for Episode 2’s numbers, the encore of the pilot for Under the Dome grabbed 5.12 million viewers giving it the most viewers in its time slot and 3rd place overall for Sunday night!  I know Under the Dome’s final ratings count of 16.6million views last week is going to be hard to beat, but as long as the numbers are still double digits, we should indeed see a second season announcement.  :::::biting fingernails:::::  The Under the Dome folks are shooting at the farm again in Currie, NC.  Thanks for the pic, Sandie!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 06/24/2013 It’s Dome Day!

IT’S HERE!  The television event we have all been waiting for!!  Under The Dome premieres on CBS at 10pm TONIGHT!  If you go to bed early, set your DVRs!!  I did get a chance to see the pilot Thursday night but you can bet your sweet A- I am watching it again!  FYI – if you got kids 14 and younger, you might have to shut their eyes in the first 5 min.  Just sayin’!

Today is also OFFICIALLY by proclamation from our Mayor Billy Saffo, DOME DAY! He made the declaration last Thursday at the red carpet premiere.  So, Happy Dome Day everyone!

I had a VERY busy weekend putting together all those fabulous Dome Day interviews!  We have more than a dozen of them, so check them out.  My favorites has to be Brian K Vaughan and Jack Bender‘s because they give real testimonials of just how great our crew base is, why the tax incentives need to stay and the locations are perfect for their needs. Oh, and did I mention the Wilmywood blog is getting quite popular, even with the writers and producers 🙂  Check it out:

SEE ALL THE INTERVIEWS NOW!  The Under the Dome folks will be shooting in Burgaw on Right St and Fremont St. You will see the beautiful boys today:  Mike Vogel, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford and Dean Norris.

There is a HUGE viewing party at Hell’s Kitchen (118 Princess St , Downtown Wilmington) tonight and every Monday night at 10pm.

Congrats to our Militia Man, Giancarlo Esposito.  The brilliant actor who plays Major Tom Neville on NBC’s Revolution is getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Yay!  He of course is also known for his role as Gus on  series Breaking Bad.

david_billy

David Andrews w/ Billy Dickson – IQ-145

WECT uncovered something cool!   We get to see one of our own on the big screen!  Local cutie David  Andrews plays a naval commander in the  Brad Pitt zombie flick, World War Z.   He’s featured in the trailers for the film. Check him out now!     You go boy!

Mullet Alert:  Danny McBride and his Eastbound and Down crew head to ever-so-fun Jungle Rapids today.  You can get a glimpse of Danny as well as Steve Little, Katy Mixon and Elizabeth de Razzo.

ON TV TODAY: catch Melissa McCarthy on Kelly & Michael and David Letterman!  Craig Ferguson’s got Toni Collette!  Plus The Talk’s got Dean Norris and Rachelle LeFevre!

We should have more details sometime this week about some more productions coming into Wilmywood, so hold onto your hats!!  Plus, this week as well, we should have more details on Sleepy Hollow!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 06/07/2013 – Reese Witherspoon coming to Wilmywood?

Even with Tropical Storm Andrea, Wilmywood’s pushing through like the postal service…how’s that go again?  Through rain, sleet, mudslides and dog poop?  Yes, the show must go on.

utd_wilmington_premiere_sunnyUnder the Dome will be…well, under the dome.  All stage work for these guys and gals today.  The ticket giveaway for the big Local Premiere with the Q&A with Cast, Producers and Stephen King begins next week!  Make sure you tune into Sunny 104.5 or visit the radio station web site!

Eastbound and Down is scheduled to shoot today.  They don’t plan on cancelling for the weather.  They will be shooting a montage so they will be all over the place today.

It’s Day 25 for Tammy.  They move from the Blue Post to the Inn at Wilmington on Market St.  Gary Cole continues his awesomeness on set with Melissa McCarthy today.  I spent a lot of time with him yesterday chattin’ it up in between takes as I got play Connie the Bartender.  Very nice guy and so talented.   It was Gary, Melissa, Susan Sarandon and Mark Duplass.  They shot one scene all day, and the hilarious ad-libs were awesome, I can’t wait until this flick comes out next summer just to see which takes make the cut!

Kudos to WECT for getting this scoop.  How would you like to see Reese Witherspoon make her way to Wilmington?  It could happen as they had some scouts for the movie, Three Little Words sniffing out Wilmywood.  The movie is about a young girl who moves through foster families for years until a volunteer (Witherspoon) helps the girl find her biological mother.  They are looking at a September start date.

Well, yesterday the Wilmington Film Commission made the official announcement about Sleepy Hollow filming here in Wilmywood. Rumor has it that the UPM for The CW’s One Tree Hill and NBC’s Revolution will now make a lateral move to Fox’s Sleepy Hollow.  David Hartley has been working in television since the early ’90s.  He also worked on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and Dawson’s Creek.   Cheers David!  Let’s hope the rumors are true!  Production begins next month.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you Monday morning and every weekday morning at 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Or just post your comments below!  Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD – 05/29/2013

Morning Peeps!  Well, it wasn’t just the sport stars that came to Wilmywood to enjoy the 3 day weekend.  WECT reported The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrey was enjoying the Port City as well.

Yesterday, I made a BIG correction on the blog.  There was a bit on confusion about whether Fox TV’s Sleepy Hollow was coming here or going to Charleston, SC.  Well, it’s looks like it is finishing the season in Wilmywood.

sheiladanSince yesterday was Dan Aykroyd‘s last day on the set of Tammy, I was hell bent on meeting him (again after more than 20 years).  So, I caught up with him on set yesterday, and let me tell you that is one sweet, sincere man.  And he loves Wilmington.  The Tammy crew is trekking back to Burgaw today.  Big park scene, lots of kids running around.  You will be seeing Melissa McCarthy and Susan Sarandon on set.

Under the Dome is on the lot for the first part of the day, then they return for their N. 15th St. location.  And speaking of UTD, if you are already a fan, you are so gonna love what I have coming up for you! Well, what Sunny 104.5 has coming up for you!  So, don’t miss a single blog!

Also, an FYI for Makeup Artists in town. I don’t know what brand you use, but wanted to pass on that Halloween and More carries these brands in case you need something locally:  (for special effects, everyday makeup, face & body paint, theatrical  etc…)  Ben Nye, Paradise “Mehron”, Brand X “Colored Liquid Latex”, Exotic Eyes Body Art, Xotic Eyes Body Art and Makeup, Snazaroo Face Paint and Don Post FX.

That just about does it for me; I will have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every weekday morning at 8:30am LIVE on Sunny 104.5.  Got Scoop?  Email me: sheila@1045sunnyfm.com.  Or message me on Wilmywood’s FB .  Until then, that’s a wrap!

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD 04/15/2013

WHAT’S UP IN WILMYWOOD

LISTEN TO PODCAST

Happy Monday morning to you!  Not too much to report today, filming wise.  I can tell you that Under the Dome will be on the lot for the day, so no action on the streets today.  Here’s the teaser.  The series premieres on CBS June 24th!

The trailer is out for Arthur Newman, golf pro starring Colin Firth and Emily Blunt.  A story of a man who fakes his own death and assumes a new identity in order to escape his life, who then moves in with a woman who is also trying to leave her past behind.

The flick has a limited release April 26th.

peter jurasikOur own Peter Jurasik is in the film. And that’s not all Peter Jurasik was up to.  You get to see him in the movie, 42, which opened this past weekend and scored the best opening day ever for a baseball flick with $27.2 million.  So, yeah Peter!  We love you!

WECT’s Ashley Kosikowski did a nice story on a couple of LA actors who have moved here and opened an actors school here called the Actor’s Arsenal.

That just about does it for me. I’ll have more Wilmywood updates for you tomorrow morning and every morning (Monday-Friday) at 8:30am.  Until then, that’s a wrap!
