THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 12/13/2013 – 3 Wilmywood Shot Flicks Make Success List, Casting call for Top Model and Holiday Parties

Box Office Mojo’s Ray Subers reveals the Top 10 Box Office Success Stories in 2013 as part on IMDb’s Year in Review.  Three Wilmywood shot movies made that list which discusses over-performing blockbusters along with surprise hits:

IM3#1 of course is Iron Man 3 – Ray says, “While Iron Man 3 was the top movie of the year at the domestic box office (over $409 million), the real upside was overseas, where its $806 million haul was more than double that of its predecessor. Worldwide, the movie’s $1.2 billion total ranks fifth all-time. ”

werethemillers#6 We’re the Millers – Ray writes,  “Benefiting from good scheduling and a strong premise, road trip comedy. We’re the Millers got off to a solid start in early August. The movie then held well thanks to strong word-of-mouth, and ultimately became the highest-grossing movie of August 2013. To date, it has earned over $150 million at the domestic box office. ”

ConjuringComing in right behind one of the best comedies of the year is The Conjuring at #7.  This is definitely on the surprise list, surpassing all expectations.  “The Conjuring wrapped up its domestic run with $137.4 million, which made it the top supernatural horror movie in over a decade. ”

chrismcdonaldBREAKING: According to WWAY, Christopher McDonald who is starring in The Squeeze was arrested for drunk driving this morning in downtown Wilmington.  Well, that gives a whole new meaning to Shooter McGavin, doesn’t it?  (Sorry bad joke that had to be said).  Lesson learned though to all cast and crew who come to Wilmington to film.  Wilmington takes drinking and driving very serious in this town.  Always hire a driver!  READ STORY NOW Production begins Friday for The Squeeze at the 6th St. Bridge!

Another TV Pilot is underway in Wilmywood. Kaufmann Media Group brings Do Not Resuscitate to their Wilmington facility Post 1200 across from EUE/Screen Gems. The show has been co-created with a veteran Seinfeld writer and are in search of local talent. Their Wilmington location (Post 1200), open just over a year, has touched almost every local production since expanding to North Carolina. KMG continues to direct Los Angeles business toward the NC market in support of the local film community.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 10/15/2013 – Squeeze Cast, Christmas in Conway Premiere, Sleepy Hollow

Jillian Murray

More actors and actresses have arrived in Wilmington for The Squeeze.  Yesterday, I reported that Jeremy Sumpter arrived.  Now I can tell you Christopher McDonald, Jillian Murray and Katherine LaNasa flew in yesterday.

Katherine LaNasa

Katherine LaNasa

Jillian is an up and coming actress who is really popping this year.  The Squeeze will one of 5 films she is working on in 2013.  As for Katherine you might remember her in The Frozen Ground or better yet, The Campaign as Rose Brady.

Chris McDonald

The most recognizable face however is Christopher McDonald.  You’ve seen him in, well…what haven’t you seen him in!  Chris been in over 160 projects along with 8 flicks yet to be seen.  I think he is most famous for playing the best jerk ever, Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore.  At the airport, he was instantly spotted and some Wilmington folks said he was super nice to everyone while taking pictures with a few fans at baggage claim.

The Conjuring and Iron Man 3, are in the running for Movie of the Year for the 2013 Hollywood Movie Awards.  They need your vote to make that happen!   The awards will be presented October 21st.   Today is the LAST DAY to vote!  VOTE NOW!

WWAY is proud to annnounce we now have a premiere date for Christmas in Conway!  Mark your calendars for December 1st.  It will air on WWAY, our ABC affiliate.  The movie stars Mary-Louise Parker, Andy Garcia and Mandy Moore. READ WWAY ARTICLE

filmjobsLobbyists from Raleigh visited with Wilmington City Council during their agenda brief yesterday. The lobbyist’s spoke about what the local lawmakers could expect in 2014. The Lobbyists said that one of the most important issues facing the state concerns film incentives.

“We’re working to try and educate legislators,” said Harry Kaplan of McGuire Woods Consulting firm in Raleigh. We continue to educate them about the importance of that film credit both here in Wilmington and New Hanover County, but also across North Carolina, the jobs and economic development that it brings to the state.”

Thom Tillis,  Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, has already said he supports keeping the incentives in the state. The state film incentive legislation is currently set January, 1 2015.  Learn more about the film incentives.

tommisonAnd last not not least how about a standing ovation for another great episode of Sleepy Hollow! Ichabod kept us laughing out loud with his “impenetrable barrier” issues with plastic and his fascination with scotch tape.  But of course, the suspense, drama and curiosity blended in perfectly.  Like butter baby!  Kudos to writer Melissa Blake for her mad skills and to 12 year old Matt Lintz for a great performance!   I will be posting, per usual, the ratings in a separate blog today by 11:30am EST.

There’s nothin’ more fun than filming at the Bellevue Cemetery in the month of October!   They will be shooting tonight at that location on Princess Place Drive.  Perhaps you will see good ole Headless as he chases another character on horseback.  Awesome!  God, I love this town!

Need to catch up on episodes?  Watch them all NOW only on FOX! Remember, Sleepy Hollow is being interrupted by baseball, so the next episode airs November 4th!

The Johnny Depp Effect

JohnnyDeppYou say one name in this town and people simply go INSANE! And that name is Johnny Depp.

Well, this certainly isn’t the first time people have cried “Wolf!” or “Johnny!” in our case. Last year, someone said they spotted him at a Port City Java, and within minutes the whole town was saying he was filming here. Well, we can thank the Star News’ Fran Norton for the most recent one and WWAY for reporting Fran’s story without doing their own homework. It was very short lived, so if you weren’t on FB or Twitter Friday morning, you probably missed it. But it really got me very aggravated. Why? Well, let me tell you how it all started.

craigslist_01-300x225It began with a CraigsList post: “Feature Film with Johnny Depp (Wilmington)”

“Feature Film with Johnny Depp currently casting for principal, supporting, and extra roles! Pay is up to $842.00 per day depending on role and experience!! Good Luck!”

Hmmmm.  Time to do some digging.  Now, anyone should know, a casting company for a A-list attached feature film does not use CraigsList. That is a red flag right there. But then the other two sources that were used to create this news story were from Facebook and

Clint, from Axcess Talent says they got it from Normally, the listings he gets are legit, so this bothered him as much as it bothered me. Since I spoke to Clint, very nice guy by the way, East Coast Talent still has not taken down the post, which was a replica of the CraigsList post. Clint no longer has Wilmington attached to the casting call.

As far as using the Facebook page as a “news source”, The Wilmington Casting Call page had the same verbage, it was from CraigsList. After I spoke to the admin, he agreed with me and removed the post as well.

I can hear Yoda right now: Long winded is she. Okay, getting to the point. Why was I so aggravated? Multiple reasons, so let me list them.

1) How many people sent their personal information to this CraigsList person because of our Wilmington “news” reporting? THAT IS HARMFUL.  I cannot stress that enough.  HARMFUL!

2) The Star News is not a rumor magazine. It is a news source we are “supposed” to trust! Do your homework!

3) Same goes for our TV news, they didn’t bother checking if the Star News did their homework. Again, we are supposed to trust you!

4) Facebook and CraigsList are not reliable sources for a big story!

5) Did I mention that Johnny Depp was the breaking news story Friday morning, with a huge picture of him on the home page of  Argh!

With all that being said, I absolutely adore so many of the reporters here in our town. Jeff, Cassie, Ashley…no one can touch them, they are incredible.  And yes, we all make mistakes.  I certainly do all the time.   But it seems as though the news lately, locally as well as nationally, doesn’t bother to check their sources, they just run with it and hopefully, it’s right.  It felt like all they cared about was web views and it was a “lemme get this out there so we can be first” mindset.  It would be one thing if there were TMZ, The Sun, or some entertainment magazine, but they are not.  We count on them for reliable and accurate information.

So will the real Johnny Depp Movie please stand up! Please stand up!

Untitled-3I received a voicemail from the Staff Production Coordinator, Micaela Brown, who is currently on the Johnny Depp flick, Transcendence and she said, “I got your message and I am calling to confirm that you are correct in that Transcendence is NOT filming in North Carolina.”  Depp’s other flick, Boston Mass, is already underway in South Boston.

I can tell you Transcendence will be filming a small piece of it in New Mexico this summer. That I know because I spoke with a casting company there who is currently casting day players and extras. It co-stars Paul Bettany, Morgan Freeman, and more.

Johnny Depp does have 20 other projects in development, so who knows, maybe one will come our way, next month, or next year.  And after me going on and on about this, maybe I am missing something.  Maybe he is coming.  Hell, if that’s the case, PLEASE let me be wrong!
