THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 09/22/2014 Battlecreek, Paper Towns, Sleepy Hollow, Yellow Footprints and more

We might have just one more production to hit Wilmywood before our current film incentives ends.  Rumor has it, the feature film, Battlecreek, is coming to Wilmington.  If this is indeed true, we would be hosting the gorgeous Hayden Christiansen who is taking the lead as well as the Oscar winning actress, Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Prisoners).  They came into Wilmington to scout the area last week. Now there are mixed rumors going around.  Some say it will be in just Wilmington, others say it will be filming in Jackson, MS and Wilmington.  But there is the possibility that they just shoot in Mississippi.  They are looking at a start date of October 20th. Offices would open the first week of October if they do come here.  We shall see!

Battlecreek is the story of a gifted young painter (Hayden Christiansen) with a rare skin disorder who lives in an economically depressed Southern American town. Due to his affliction, he must live his life at night. When a young woman being chased by her own demons stumbles into town, their blossoming romance compels him to challenge his provocative, overbearing mother (Melissa Leo) and break free of the lies that have bound them together for years. Battlecreek is about reconciling the past and finding your future.

Producing is Connie Hoy.  Directing is Alison Eastwood, which I believe is Clint Eastwood’s neice?  Hopefully it is more than just a rumor.  More details to come soon.

Yellow Footprints is to begin production here in Wilmington. Local lady Casey Mako will direct this coming of age female military film, about a young woman who strives to be a Marine and fight on the front lines in a position traditionally held only by men.

TarynTaryn Terrell (WWE, The Campaign, Old Boy), has signed on to play the role of Sarah, a girl with a heart of gold who has suffered unimaginable loss, and finds a physical and mental strength to move on in her own life and inspire the will of others to believe they can do whatever they set their minds to.

The cast will be predominantly female and will feature Christy Berlane, (New Comic Day), and young new comer Hayley Heffernan, (30 Rock, Vera, 846).

Produced and co-written by Nick Dash and co-written by Monica Bellais, production is expected to begin in early October. Dash is a former Marine, is inspired to honor and tell a positive story regarding female Marines, ripped straight from the headlines, now that legislation has been approved for females to fight equally on the front lines with their male counterparts. Dash plans to employ homeless veterans in various extra roles in this film to bring awareness to the issue of homelessness and our beloved veterans.

Cara_DCara Delevingne has been added to the cast of Paper Towns which shoots in Charlotte, NC this fall.  She will take on the role of Margo Roth Spiegelman opposite of Nat Wolff. Paper Towns is expected to begin production in November with offices projected to open at the end of September.

Tusk was shot in the Charlotte area and stars Justin Long, Michael Parks, Haley Joel Osment, and Genesis Rodriguez.  It’s NOW in 640 theaters. The movie follows Wallace (Justin Long), a journalist on a mission. He finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Michael Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses.

Solomon Harvey

Last night it was Wilmywood against Wilmywood as American Ninja Warrior had Wilmington resident Solomon Harvey competing  and Wilmington shot Under the Dome episode 5 (Reconciliation) aired.  Tough decision on what to watch.  ANW has beat UTD twice in the ratings this season.  We will see later today who was the winner in the ratings battle. Solomon finished 4th and he’s headed to the finals in Las Vegas which will air August 11th on NBC.  Congrats Solomon!

FILM INCENTIVES:  Is no news good news?  Not much to report. They have two options right now.  The grant program or an extension of our current incentives.  I am still praying for that Hail Mary pass which will depend on which strategy they choose.  They are all thinking about the upcoming elections, so I am remaining positive that our film incentives will survive.  The NCGA will be discussing HB 1224 tomorrow (which includes the new incentives that they call the job catalyst fund).  Perhaps while no decision has been made we can remind folks about just how much money is being brought into the state via film this year: NC FILM – MID-YEAR ESTIMATES FOR 2014: $268 MILLION IN SPENDING, 19,000 JOB OPPORTUNITIES .

YellowDoor The feature film Yellow Footprints is plugging along.  They have officially open up offices yesterday and will be scouting locations this week. Writers are also heading into heading into town.  If you haven’t sent in your crew resumes yet, please do so at crew@snakebite.com.  The UPM has not been named yet, but will be announced within the next couple of weeks. Production begins in September.

THE WILMYWOOD DAILY – 07/14/2014 Wilmywood Crew Call, Sleepy Hollow, Under the Dome, Tammy and more.

This week seems to be the week, but then again that’s what they said last week, and the week before.  However, the General Assembly is already a full two weeks over their intended short session (ironic, isn’t it?).  ICYMI, on Friday I posted a blog about getting some national media attention on our film incentives battle, so please give it a read, and send your emails!  READ NOW

Orlando Jones had people cracking up over the weekend with his Comedy Night over at Theatre Now with an after party at KGB.  Of course there was Sleepyhead Nikki Baharie in attendance.  Here’s a few pics I totally stole from Jessica Armstrong and David Pascua!

Sleepy Hollow is shooting on the soundstages all day today!

CREW CALL:  Yellow Footprints (working title) is now accepting crew resumes. Send your resumes to Crew@snakebite.com with your position in the subject line.  The indie feature is about a Female Marine, who struggles at home and on the front lines in a traditionally all male Marine Infantry Unit. Offices will open within the next two weeks.  Production is slated to begin in September.  This project will shoot in Wilmington and the surrounding areas.

tammy-posterAfter it’s third week at the box office, Tammy is doing pretty well earning $12.9M over the weekend.  Add that to its total gross, the Wilmywood shot comedy is currently at $57,354,000.  Not bad for a $20M movie.

Sheila Mobile Dome

Another great night to head on down to Hell’s Kitchen for the Under the Dome viewing party.  Party kicks off around 9pm with of course the show at 10pm.  Here’s a little preview of what’s in store for us tonight!

Under the Dome is in Burgaw today. This is the last week for locations as our DOmies wrap at the end of the week!  So sad!  Argh!

Our favorite Domie shared some local love over the weekend!

And this is Dean after the Britt’s Donuts!

Now onto The Longest Ride.  They are shooting downtown on Orange St. today. And speaking of which, I got the chance to hang on set last week and thanks to David Pascua, we got some great shots on set. (I will post a separate blog w/ all the awesome pics)

TheLongestRide071014_0152ICYMI: I caught up with producer, Marty Bowen.  Besides already having a connection to our crew with Safe Haven, Marty has worked with film crews all over the country with projects such as the Twilight Saga, Dear John and the latest The Fault in our Stars.  Now he is here for The Longest Ride.   He explains why our NC Film crew is world class and what it actually means. LISTEN NOW

LarryLong

Remember last week when we gave major kudos to Wilmywood crew member Larry Long.  Well, shame on me but I forgot to include Butterthe complete team.  I mean, I had the picture up, but didn’t give the complete nod to Team Butter!  Also getting that Emmy nomination is Matt Fann who is currently working on Under the Dome and Jack Hill.  Jack is currently working on Ashby in Charlotte.   So, go ahead and reem me for it, I deserve it!  Bad, Sheila! Bad!  Congrats Team Butter!  You rock!
